Video is 24 minutes long, sorry something happened in editing and added to the end of video. There is a void at the beginning too. That was my fault I did not check it before uploading.

God almighty! If that's what it takes just to change the damn spark plugs, my next car will be a 4 cylinder or an EV.

As soon as you remove the intake plenum stuff crumpled up pieces of paper towel down into the six openings on top of the intake manifold. This will prevent anything from getting dropped down inside there and possibly getting stuck in the intake port. If you drop something down in there like a small screw you might get lucky and get it out provided you see it go down in there. But if something falls down in there without you knowing it you can destroy the engine. Sticking paper towel down into any upward facing openings on an engine takes just a few minutes and paper towel is very cheap. On the other hand preplacing an entire engine can be very expensive and time consuming.

I had the same 0302 code in my2nd cylinder on my 2002 Lexus ES300 which has 163k miles and changed the 3 front plugs yesterday. Check engine light came back after I cleared it out and started flashing. Engine misfiring was evident I’m the second owner, the original owner may have changed the plugs once before but I’m not 100% sure. The Lexus owners page only said he changed the timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket all at 87k miles. This records stopped at 110k miles so maybe he did the plugs after that since all service was done a local Lexus dealership in south Jersey from day one thru 110k miles. Got the Spark in-line ignition tester at Autozone for about $7 and sure enough the Ignition coil pack in the 2nd cylinder was showing no spark. Bought a set of 6 coil packs (Duralast) from Autozone. I changed out the front 3 ignition packs , cleared out the Codes. Immediately on start up the engine was smooth, no misfiring at all. I knew right there it was fixed. I wanted the Denso brand but with only 2 in the warehouse and none in the store, this wasn’t an option today. they Also have NGK which i believe is the OEM but at $45 more per coil this also wasn’t in the works. The Duralast have a limited lifetime warranty, Denso has only 1 year and the NGK has 3 years. How do these 3 brands compare in terms of quality for an ignition coil pack ? Thanks for posting this, your demo of the Spark inline tester helped me a great deal !! Next week ill be watching this video when i change out the 3 rear Spark plugs and ignition coil packs.!

I have install coil packs from autozone, oriley, napa, amazon, and rockauto. None has failed yet. They were all from China. I have also installed some from the wrecking yard. They were oem and worked great too.

Those 3 bolts in the back are tough to get at, especially the one on the far passenger side. Many people leave them off, they are not really necessary.

As a mobile mechanic if the vehicle has around 100k miles on it I recommend changing out coils, plugs, rebuild fuel injectors, and replacing intake manifold gasket ,throttle body gasket, clean throttle body, since I'm in there, then they should get another 80 to 100 k miles on it.changing just the one or to parts is so wrong as the other parts have 100k wear as well.just saying

If you have a right angle drill and a reverse drill bit it's not that bad. If not remove valve cover and it will be easy to get to.

@@MitchelPie ok, you will need to find the leak. If you have a shop vac you can connect the blower side to the tailpipe and will help get some airflow and some soapy water in the suspected area.

Thanks for watching. That sux they hit you with the $$$$. Sometimes, the worn out spark plugs will cause problems with coil packs. This is the first I have heard of the computer needing a update from that. Usually the drivers in the computer get smoked and weak or inop. The computer will need to be replaced. This is usually a Volkswagen product.
