You actually don't need to take the phone apart to remove and replace the camera lens. I mean... Both ways work. But you can just use some heat and a sharp object like a razor to pop out the lens. I made a video on the process if anyone is interested.

should disconnect battery first before reattaching screen flex cables otherwise there is a risk to shorting out the back light circuit.

To anyone reading this trying to figure out what to do at this step, the video is misleading. the bracket in the 6s is soldered in. you have to break it out and replace it with adhesive. everything is pretty straight forward from there

So I made it work! A few tips: 1. I recommend getting a replacement camera together with the lens ring. The bracket will inevitably break, but you do not need to replace it! Just insert the camera without the bracket, there will be no issues - the space inside is super tight. 2. Expect having to use brute force :) 3. Heat helps (but expect no miracles) - I held it under hairdryer for around 45s. It is pretty scary though. 4. There is another tutorial where the guy claims this can be done (with a razorblade) without disassembly - DON'T DO IT! I tried that first because my lens ring was already cracked, but ultimately I had to diassemble my iPhone anyways. Did not work and I bent the rear panel slightly. 5. If there are any problems with display, you probably did not attach one of the cables right, so don't panic, just recheck everything. Good Luck!!

In my case I took over a month to get it fixed (and my lens got super dirty) so I was just concerned that my camera lens gets scratched. Also the camera was just around $20 so I didn't mind really having it as a back-up in case I screw something up (I heard a lot about iPhone brackets breaking online and basically messing up the camera - this did not turn out to be true).

Where did you find the camera for $20? I did this repair, but I still have a spot on my lens since I waited so long. Also, 6 or 6s? I'm looking for the 6s.

+DespicableKnee I am not sure where are you based, but I bought mine from Canadian Amazon. I just checked it again and the cameras for iPhone 6 are significantly cheaper than ones for the 6s model (reasonable given the significant quality improvement). I believe this one is the cheapest but feel free to look around www.amazon.com/dp/B01JZ5MUU8/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_RJ1ZxbC9CJGC7

Great video, very helpful ... I was able to do it, but must have screwed up the LCD cable somehow because there are now vertical white stripes at the very top of the screen where the time is displayed. It's okay, I can live with it and maybe I'll try to fix it at some point if I'm feeling adventurous. Just leery of making the problem worse. Bought a kit through Amazon and it worked well except for the screwdriver, which was a flat head instead of a Phillips. Only one screw gave me a really hard time because it was on there tight. Would definitely recommend using a Phillips instead to ease the process. Some tips ... you can put the tiny screws on a piece of duct tape to prevent losing them and also keep track of which one goes where. Agree with other comments here about the bracket being welded on ... I was able to remove it mostly intact. It was bent badly out of shape, but I did put it back in. The lens was quite difficult to get out. I would suggest pushing all around the ring, rather than just focusing pressure on one area. That probably would have made it easier. I also tried the external method of heating the area and using a razor blade, but was unsuccessful. Don't know how that could work when it was so hard to get the lens out even pushing from the inside, especially without slicing yourself badly. I must have gotten a dot of glue on the inside of the lens, so I used the pentalobe screwdriver tip wrapped in an eyeglass cloth, dipped in acetone to wipe it clean, followed by glass cleaner. It's not perfect, but a great improvement over my previously shattered lens. My last comment would be, when reattaching the cables, to use your finger and get a feel for how it goes back on. My first try, the digitizer was obviously not connected because the touch screen was totally non-functional. Also, the LCD cable must have been wrong too because the screen just flashed and scrolled upwards constantly. I couldn't even turn it off since the touch screen wasn't working, so I wound up working on the cables with the phone on, which wound up working out well since I could test to make sure it was done right (mostly right). Not sure if this is frowned upon, but I didn't get shocked for what it's worth.

Best method to do this is bust out the glass lens after removing the camera, heating it up with a hair dryer, and using plyers to yank out the lens. Very sketchy and nearly bent the iPhone doing so but this what I found worked for me with only a minor bending to the bracket that holds the camera.

I did this multiple times and every single time the pins and metal base that were removed in Step 4 would get bent beyond possible usage. I suggest not doing it as the video says, I recommend heating the glass lens from the back of the phone until the glue holding the lens softens, then pushing it out from within. From there just glue a new lens where the old one was. I found this to be WAY less of a hassle and doesn't require any brute force in trying to pry it out.

  • @bencroxford6666
    @bencroxford66669 жыл бұрын

I tried very hard to get the lens out from the outside of the case and couldn't do it. So i would strongly recommend going into the phone and pushing it out which is not too difficult except for the bracket. When you get a new lens cover you get a new bracket, i would say it is impossible to remove the bracket without breaking it, it required tweezers to get most of the bracket but strong pliers were needed to fully remove it. I also cracked a replacement lens trying to re insert it, because it was too big. Maybe someone here knows if Model A1586 Iphone 6 has a particularly small lens cover, otherwise i would suggest contacting sellers of replacement lens's before buying.

This is pre-prepared, the gasket he took out at 1:12 is all in one piece with the lens. So you basically have to yank it out and break the metal piece. If your lens is broken and needs to be replaced it shouldn't matter if the gasket is broken anyways.

I survived it...Quite a challenge to just get the iphone separated. I used heat, and it was still pretty tough. Those are some REALLY small screws. I recommend having a good system ready for sorting each screw, and it's order. On the 5 that you remove, be sure to label each one, as they are several different sizes, and they're only 1/16" different in size, so organize them to know which will go where when you put it back!......Good luck!.

The hardest part is pushing out the lens. It's micro tack welded to the "Easily breakable frame". you'll need to use enough force to break the weld. You can probably do it with a razor, or brute force pry it off with a small pair of needlenose pliers, but you risk wrecking the camera. An inexpensive replacement from Amazon.

My front camera didnt work. Whenever I click the little switch camera button on the screen, it just flips back to the back camera instead of changing to the front camera. I put the new screen with the working front camera on. Still not work. Factory restore. Not working. Phone did not have water damage. Do you have any idea? Thanks

Could be a damaged pin on the logic board itself. make sure to inspect the pins as well. If one is broken, that could mean that any new camera will not be detected. The best you can do is resolder the entire pin connection. Even that is extremely difficult for veteran solderers.

I don't see how you got that bracket out like that, it's soldered down. I just ripped it out, it's not really needed. Just be careful when applying glue that it doesn't get on the lens or other components, it doesn't take much to make it stick. I just finished doing this and I was sweating.

Ask your carrier when they will get se back in stock if it's too long to wait upgrade if you feel comfortable with an iPhone 6 go to an Apple Store and try it out or ask apple if they can do anything for you

adam khalifa Yes I've asked my carrier, they said they might receive a few SE next week. Apparently Apple is ignoring their demand and only sends out 1-2 at a time... If not, I'll contact with Apple Store like you said. Thanks for helping :)

Ring up apple and see what they say and ask them if they can replace they phone or something. Sometimes when you go instore theres that nice person who will replace the phone straight away if that's the case in your location then that wouldn't be great

Actlually it's not such easy as it's showed in tht video - it's really hard and painful to remove the bracked and the lens screen. I broke the bracket and assembled the phone without it. Heating the lens using a hairdryer could help to free it. But thanks for that video.

This is absolutely crazy. It can easily be removed from the outside. No need to take the phone apart. Just slide a razorblade under it and gently pry. It will pop off and another one can be securely popped on in its place.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery? If not do that. Reconnect and try a hard reset. This video isn't accurate. You must ALWAYS disconnect the battery to avoid turning the phone on or having any power going to it. Have the phone on and reconnecting the screen can blow a backlight filter.

+mikemarg1993 always be aware of which screws go where. Some laptops and many other larger devices use many screws which are exactly the same but many phones use different lengths, gauge, and even metals in their screws. When you remove a screw, leave it in the same orientation for easier reassembly. A magnetic mat really helps a lot, as well.

yea that part is a bit misleading. What I'm guessing they did is they destroyed the original bracket, and the bracket shown in the video is a replacement bracket that they conveniently put on there and pulled out for the video. But like some people have said, all you really need is the black spacer, if you keep that mostly intact, you should be good.
