    This is brilliant. I change the worn out rubber in a couple of minutes. No need to moved the board inside and the aerial. It is just the rubber that had perished. I used my finger nails only! Well done

    A tip for people like me who have just viewed the video. By the way thanks Remote Pro for the video, it was very helpful. The four plastic pins may not go easily back in. It is a very tight fit. From a previous suggestion do the following. Carefully file down the 4 pins a little. It does not need much. You can try the frame first without attaching the buttons. The frame should not be difficult to take out again. Also make sure that you have removed all bits of rubber left over from the old buttons from all parts of the frame. If you don't this may stop the rubber fitting snugly to the frame. Now attach the buttons to the frame and you should be able to push in frame and buttons for a snug fit.

    Thanks for the video, worked great! It takes a lot of patience and care to get all the old rubber off of the plastic frame, including all around the outside edge. Just keep running your thin screwdriver or blade around and around the outside edge until all of the old rubber is gone. Then I pried very, very carefully, working my way around the edges until I was able to pop out the 4 pins, one at a time. (It may not be clear from the video because he doesn't show the back side of the frame for very long, but the pins are located on the cross pieces between where the buttons are -- so prying along those areas is the most effective). Thanks also to all of you who commented about your negative experiences with the pins or the frame breaking, it really emphasizes how careful you have to be when attempting to pop out that little frame.

    To push the four plastic pins back in I used the top/round end of a pencil. and press down hard. Make a mental note where the pins are before reassemble. I then had to use a little electrical screwdriver to just tuck the odd bit of pad back under. I hope this helps someone out 🙂

    UK: This worked okay for me. The only thing I found was that the replacement rubber didn't fit round the lip very well, but it seems to have bedded in okay. The button rubber only cost £2.99. Do you know what the Hyundai dealership quoted me for a new key? £450.00! Many thanks.

    Quick tip for people who have got problem to push back plastic frame with 4 pins. I tried too and no luck for me, didn't want break the pins (shape of them look like mushroom). I used 120 grid sand paper I folded once and start working my way to round all four pins, not completely just about 70% ot it leaving a very small lip. After that I managed to push that it and rubber pad seats nicely without falling apart.

    Could you explain the part where 'folded back' please ? Are you sandpapering the connections on the plastic and folding back the plastic to get to the connections ? I am having difficulty in getting the new rubber cover to stay fitted to the key. Your help would be appreciated.

  • @gregbooming

    @@jackdorris2349 yes exactly as you said. Just sand or use a file (as someone mentioned) 4 pins comes from frame. The shape of each pin looks like mushroom so you need to reduce thickness of each pin to allowed them pop back into holes (not to much). Just sand a little bit and try if you can push back. Also make sure that you don't have anything in the holes and compare rubber button if it's not oversized. Regards

    Me too. I followed the video with my first key and and the rubber casing doesn't seem to want to stay in. I read your comment and tried it with the second key and it popped in like a charm. I think with the first key, which admittedly was in far worse condition, either I've not removed all the old rubber or I distorted the plastic frame when removing it. I'm really happy with this whole solution though. Saved myself a lot of money.

    I just replaced my pad. some tips for others: - this took a WHILE. like an hour because it was so difficult refit the plastic retainer. the little clips are mushroom shaped, so I filed them down into normal pegs and they fitted a bit easier. press down as hard as you can in the same place as the pegs - put the silver frame bit in first if you have that part (I have an i10), it's too fiddly to try and hold all 3 pieces together. - removing the plastic retainer is also difficult, mine also snapped, but it shouldn't matter. do be as careful as you can!

  • @Insulindude
    @Insulindude2 жыл бұрын

    Okay, firstly I'm sure the button pad doesn't wear out, instead it rots because of the oils in our skin. Having one such rotten remote I purchased some button pads and also a couple of silicon pull on covers (Amazon) for both remotes I have, once on they look just like a slightly larger remote (having all the cut outs and symbols) and come in many colours. I too encountered the mushroom profile problem with the little plastic frame for the button pad. I cut all four of them off put the pad on and then re-essembled. Okay, it wasn't "clipped" in but I tried shaking it out and it wouldn't budge and I tried picking it out with my finger nail (around the edge) and couldn't. Now I have the silicon cover over it as well I am 99.9% sure it will be fine.

    Hey Michael, sometimes the originals have a lip on the "four dots" and these can be carfully trimmed with nail clippers which will make it easier to get in.

    Worked more or less. Better to use a thin blunt object, you find them in pc ifixit kits (silver tool with blunt end on one side, and sharp side on the other), to pry off the plastic frame. Otherwise if you pry it off the way this guy does, you'll break the frame like I almost did. Other than that, it helped as a guild.

    For me, TWEEZERS (like lady tweezers for the brows- I’m a lady) worked way way better. Also, when you get the little plastic frame out and fit the replacement rubber cover around it, make sure you really get the lip on it and then work from the BOTTOM up, the most narrow part of the cover when pushing it into the remote. Luckily this whole process only took me 5-10 minutes.
