My Kia fobs were hermetically sealed with superglue from the factory. 5 HOURS!!!! to change my key fob shells. BUT, your video is priceless. Once you get the circuit board out of your old key fob, this operation takes minutes to complete. I had every slot head screwdriver out, 2 pair of pliers, 2 box cutters trying to pry open the old fobs. If you have as much difficulty as I did, just make sure you do not damage the circuit board. Also, your old key (OF COURSE)!, spring and chrome button should be used as long as they are not damaged. The new shells I ordered from Amazon came with springs that are longer than the original and the chrome button is too short to be functional. Thanks for the great video.

I am finding the same issue I think. Trying to get the old fob open. It is NOT as easy as it is here in the vid. And mine doesn't appear to be a Kia sticker on the back of the old one. I think it's metal and part of the shell itself. Not sure if there is a screw under that. But I'm not having luck getting that off either.

I just replaced the housing on my 2013 Soul. The original key fob appeared to be glued shut. There’s way no screw holding together. I had to use a lot of force with the pliers to spilt it open. After that it was pretty straightforward.

Thanks for posting. However, trying to pry my old one apart didn’t work. I had to apply a lot of pressure and it still wouldn’t come apart. So I went to plan B. I pried the rubber button assembly off the new one; removed the busted up, cracked buttons from the old one, and simply switched. It works fine. I’ll buy another housing and do the same for my second key fob. I’m paying a total of $16 for the rubber buttons but that’s better than $500+ for two new key fobs.

Thank you. I got mine to work following this video. I have 2 comments. 1. The transponder / chip wasn't glued in on my original key. So I didn't glue it into the new one - this means if I have to get another replacement case I will have no trouble changing it over again. 2. Why was it necessary to go to the bother of changing the key blade. I just took the key blade, hinge and spring from the original fob and used that on the new case. Seemed to work ok!

Great vid, there is one item I would add to it tho. If you look at 3:25 into the video, on the back panel of the remote ( the panel with the battery hole, at the top of it opposite the spring and pin ) you will see a small cavity. ON SOME MODELS, in that cavity, there will be a small white panel. This model doesnt have it. Under that panel is a ferro rod or sometimes a induction ID chip. Thats part of the security system on some models and that panel and ferro rod or chip must also move over or your car will not start. All other functions of the fob will still operate without it. i completed the assembly without moving this and no start ( "key error" if you have a code reader plugged in ), went back and grabbed that from the old fob, installed and bingo, first try ( no error on code reader ). Hope that helps others.

I’ve been using this key to start/drive the car for the past couple years with no problem. If you replace the chip (intact) from one case to another you’ll have no problem. The plastic case means nothing, it’s all the chip to communicate with the ECU to start the car, and of course the metal key to turn the ignition cylinder.

Great tutorial, except that it gave me a false sense of security.... Nothing is mentioned about the security transmitter chip so after switching out the motherboard and switching the key, I tested the door locking mechanism and was all set!! Or so I thought.... the next morning the car was disabled and wouldn't start for me.. upon towing to the shop and them running a diagnostic a P 1693 immobilizer error came up. I found the old key chassis and sure enough the transponder chip was in the framing across from the board. Something for others to watch out for..... 👎
