Replacing a Front Axle Seal on an Iseki Minitractor: A Step-by-Step Guide
Minitractors are indispensable workhorses on small farms and agricultural enterprises worldwide. From tilling fields to maintaining green spaces, these compact machines deliver powerful performance. However, like any mechanical device, they can experience wear and tear and develop defects. A common issue is oil leakage, often caused by worn seals.
In this blog, we'll focus specifically on replacing a front axle seal on an Iseki minitractor, using the TA287 Landleader as an example. However, this procedure can also be applicable to other models and brands of minitractors. We'll rely on an instructional video to clarify the steps.
What is a Front Axle Seal and Why Replace it?
A front axle seal is a seal located between the axle and the housing of the front axle. Its primary function is to keep oil in and prevent dirt and water from entering the axle. Over time, the seal can wear out due to normal use, leading to oil leakage around the front axle.
It's essential to replace a worn seal promptly to prevent further damage to the minitractor and ensure proper operation.
Step-by-Step Guide for Replacing a Front Axle Seal:
For a visual reference and step-by-step demonstration, watch the attached video explaining how to do this on an Iseki TA287 Landleader. Here's a summary of the key steps:
Safety First: Ensure the tractor is on a flat surface and the engine is turned off. Use appropriate safety equipment, such as gloves and safety goggles.
Removing the Wheel Hub: Begin by removing the wheel hub according to the manufacturer's instructions. This provides access to the front axle and the seal.
Removing the Old Seal: Use suitable tools, such as a seal puller, to carefully remove the old seal. Make sure the area around the axle is clean before proceeding. If unavailable, use pliers.
Installing the New Seal: Place the new seal in position and use a suitable tool to gently and evenly press it into the housing. Ensure the seal is fully seated and not damaged during the installation process.
Reinstalling the Wheel Hub: Once the new seal is installed, reinstall the wheel hub according to the manufacturer's instructions. Check that all components are securely fastened. It's important to clean this surface with, for example, brake cleaner and later apply 80W90 lubricant.
Replacing and/or Adding Oil: After loosening the wheel hub, it's important to refill or preferably replace the oil. The oil used for this purpose is 80W90:

Inspection and Testing: Before putting the tractor back into operation, check the front axle for any leaks and, if necessary, perform a test drive to ensure everything is functioning correctly.
Replacing a front axle seal on an Iseki minitractor, or a minitractor in general, requires diligence and accuracy to ensure the tractor can perform optimally without oil leaks. By following these steps and seeking professional advice if needed, you can ensure your minitractor remains in top condition and ready for all tasks on your farm.
