How To Replace Lifters On A 3.6 Pentastar with special tool (Part 2)| Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep

Ойын-сауық

Hey Good People,
As promised, my wife has edited the lifter tutorial video and here it is. I know I already have a longer version of the tutorial on these lifters that is longer and removes the front cover. This tutorial I use a special tool so that you can do it without having to remove the front cover and it makes the job shorter.
I hope you enjoy the video, and I hope you learn something and how to do the job. That is always my goal.
This is Part 2 of this series. Here is Part 1 : • How To Replace Lifters...
Special Tool : amzn.to/45Ira3p

Your wedge blocks are left and right for each bank as opposed to your right hand standing in front of it.

After wedging the tool in between the two cam phasers I just pulled one cam phaser at a time and changed the cam lifers and rockers. Must easier that way and less time consuming. Good video Alex

I just replaced all 24 on my dodge grand caravan, took me 4 days. For anyone looking to do this job I would say that once you have the cam phaser, chain and cam shaft marked you can take the locking brick out when you're trying to put the came phaser back on the cam shaft. This will make getting it back on so much easier. Knowing what I know now I think I could do this job in a day. Sadly, I dont think I fixed my issue. It started with a 302 code, replaced the spark plugs, and coils. Then a replaced all 24 valves and rockers. Cam shafts were good luckily. The van is still running rough after one test drive, so it might be a low compression on one of the cylinders. I should have checked this first before doing this job. I'm not a mechanic so lessen learned. Hopefully this helps someone out there. Keep up the good content Alex.

A compression gauge is not to much $ and is a very helpful tool. Sorry to hear that you went through all that effort and expenses to get the same results. You are not alone and that is how we learn from mistakes of not following the procedure of the gas, spark, compression thingy in a non diesel engine. You can buy a fresh long block and switch the other parts over or find a junkyard engine with good compression. Best of luck.👍

If you think you have bad compression, you should be able to disconnect the ignition fuse and simply listen to the cranking. If it is uneven, you have a compression issue.

I am currently on DAY 3 of trying to do this myself and am stuck on getting the cam phasers back onto the cams. The worst part is, I don;' know whether I have used the "special tools" correctly or not as they do not seem to do anything for me as far as gaining chain.

Thanks for this video Alex! I have all the parts for this rocker & lifter job on my '13 Charger @ 135k miles and was literally waiting for this video with the special timing tools. I appreciate you! I love how you do the video long form and show all the steps and dont just use jump cuts and skip stuff! While I have it apart to do the rockers & lifters I'm also replacing the oil filter / cooler assembly with the upgraded all aluminum one, spark plugs & boots, & PCV valve. Fingers crossed. There are parts of the occupation I miss, and parts not so much. These type of engine issues may pay the bills, but the only satisfaction is a job well done. And hopefully the added parts will not have the same fate. Thanks, Alex, for a good video, interesting too. I followed it closely to see what is entailed in one of these jobs. Not that I'll ever do one though. But it does stir up the old brain matter, which is a good thing. 😊

this video got me through changing the rockers, two camshafts on the left side. now i'm getting a error code my scanner shows as 'random misfire' and i'm at a loss of what to do, broke the cams in at 2000 rpm for 20 minutes, used assembly lube as instructed from the manufacturer. you know how much of a pain it is to get to the spark plugs, so wondering if maybe a coil pack is on it's last legs now or something else, my journey runs fine, hits warm up and then starts misfiring, if i put it into gear it starts shuddering now. seems like the timing chain slipped because i didn't let it run a few minutes before starting the break in cycle.

The manufacturers have been selling junk in the last 15 years and have been using low quality metals and building crap plastic engine parts with other components. Proper maintenance and oil changes are key. One of my vehicles is a 1996 Toyota 4-Runner 2wd automatic 3.4 with 410k and not in the rust belt. Most dependable vehicle that I have even owned. Knock on wood/ cranium. Just found a axle seal leaking today though.

the foxelli rechargeable is the best one I have.. once you start using them, you will never go back to trying to hold a light with one hand and work with the other.,., you can quickly focus the light wherever u need it. as you get older around 40, the eyes tend to get worse, unless your lucky.,. ive been trying to get my son to use a headlamp as hes alwayd trying to use his phone light, and work with one hand,, irks me to no end,, ha@@AlexTheCarDoctor

I have a quick question, where do i source the lifters and rocker arms, besides the dealership, do you have a recommendation? They quoted me $900 for the 24 lifters and rocker arms.

@@AlexTheCarDoctor Thank you Alex I was able to secure the tapets /lifters and rocker rollers and replaced them but the noise still there. i also replaced the oil pump because of code p06dd but to no avail. I am thinking i will need to remove the timing cover and inspect the timing chain and tensioners.. hopefully this fix the issue. My question is how do you know differentiate the timing noise from the rocker rollers and lifters to the chain one?

Do not use 5w 20 in these engines it's death to them. Only use high quality Pennzoil ultra platinum 5w 30 synthetic.

Manufacturer/Jeep owners guide and jeep cap cover call for 5w 20. I know 5w 30 won’t hurt it but why do you think 5w 20 will destroy the engine?
