How To Replace HVAC Mode Door Actuator on 8th Gen Honda Civic
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome back to Development Division, today I am showing you how to access and replace your hvac actuator in an 8th gen civic. My Civic would only blow out of the top vents, no matter what zone button was selected. The servo motor in the actuator assembly stopped working.
OEM PART NUMBER: 79140-SNA-A01

First, I want to say thank you for a great video. One addional thing that could help people doing this job is to remove the air vent next to the broken air mode control motor. Doing this frees up a lot of space and you only need to crawl on your back for ONLY screw holding the air vent in. That screw is farther down and is relatively easy to remove. Then, the rest becomes much easier. There's more than one way to do this job, but you did what works best for you. Your video helped me still.

You talking about the floor/foot vent?
loved that mini teardown at the end, good info!
very helpful, packed with info. thank you
Thanks for sharing this video. It was very helpful!
Very good information. Thank you very much!
I have watched quite a few of these videos on how to replace the actuator and/or motor and the one thing i learned is how car manufacturers love to make these repairs very dificult and our lives miserable! Thanks Honda!
The top bolt of the actuator screw has a phillips head also, if you use an 90 degree adaptor w/ a 2 inch extended phillips attachment, and then when its far out enough switch to a regular phillips attachment (about 1 inch), takes about 15 seconds, if all goes right. (I also used an 8 inch extension between the 90 degree adapter (I used milwaukee) to make it a bit easier. One hand holding down the 90 and one hand activating the drill.
Thank you
Now you found Lionel Richie where is the rest of the Commodores?😂
would the mode door activator be on the same side in 2007 accord? i need to replace that part because it only blows at the feet. all other videos online show how to replace the blend activator, which controls temp, but not the direction. thanks.
I was able to wiggle on some wires and get it to open the blower door, but is it fixed I'll know in the future what to fix. Could be a wire issue.
That's the mode door actuator. not the blend actuator. correct? The only thing I see it changing on my civic is which vents the air comes out of. It doesn't do anything with changing the temperatures.

It’s the same thing. I thought it was called the mode door actuator as well.

Correct, mode door does not do temps. Blend door is on drivers side.

Correct, but I think it’s the same device, just on different areas of the air box. At least when I looked it up it had the same part number from what I understand, either that or I just got lucky lol.
Was that not the blend door actuator you replaced?
Can you do a video for 9th Gen
The screws bolts nuts in tight situation like that I always put masking tape sticky Side facing to the inside of the socket that will be enough shim to keep the bolt nut from falling away from your socket. Unless you have the money to buy magnetic sockets :-)
does this part also effect heat and cold function ?, like if you turn on ac but the door isnt open correctly so you get mix air of cold and heat ?

if you find this gen service manual. it says it goes from outside, through cooling then heating. so what happens is if you have the ac on cold. then the heater doesn't turn on, and the cold air just passes through. if you have the heat on, then the ac doesn't kick on and the outside air goes past the ac system into the heater coils then through the vents. this isn't a door issue, this is maybe your ac not turning off? the doors the mode activator deals with are just the vents the air blows through.

Ya , twice I had mechanic change valve and redo the whole refrigerant flush but didn’t solve. Now after I fix this actuator, it’s working good but then it’s not real summer yet .
So this part will control in which the air will flow through, meaning from the floor, to vents to the windshield?

Correct
Can you use android for the light? lol, Great video, by the way, that car has the same Android Radiuo i got and it seems like the rear defrost button stayed sunk just like mine.

Eventually I had to clearance the trim a little bit to get the defrost button to function properly..
How do you move the white plastic to the correct position? The little polley inside is not set correctly for me

I’m not sure, but maybe try powering on the car and selecting a different hvac mode. Cycling through the modes might get it in the correct position.
I have a 2004 honda Civic, the cold air works but the heat and defrost don’t. The guy told me this is what i needed. Is this correct?

Yes
I'm having a issue where the ac blows cold then I'll hear clicking behind the dash then it blows hot. I already changed the compressor could it be the blend door actuator?
@developmentdivision122

Clicking behind the dash usually means an actuator is out. Possibly a relay but most of what I’ve seen it’s a actuator with stripped gears making the clicking sound.

Thanks for the help
So this is the actuator that controls which HVAC mode, but what controls hot/cold? My problem is some vents blow hot, and some blow cold.

(Not sure) BUT I believe that is located near the drivers footwell off to the right if you’re looking at the accelerator pedal.

We’re you able to find out what the issue is with the hot/cold

@@joelstovall1128 Are you having the same issue? No, I have not had time to troubleshoot it. I am trying to get another vehicle back on the road, and then, I have to replace the rear brakes on the Honda Civic. I work construction, so I am used to being in the cold.

@@kenc.9067 yes my daughter just told me that her civic doesn’t switch from ac to heat. The a/c works but when you turn the dial to warm or hot it’s doesn’t or barley buts out heat, changed the the thermostat but no change. It might be the heat core needs to be flushed idk no signs of head issues it’s weird

You need to change the blend actuator, which is on the driver side just above the Excelerator pedal
Hey why would you wanna replace this anyways what does it do

Stops working and only blows from the front cant defrost winshield if its not working
after all this time I thought the cabin air filter was in that opening on the hood cowl

Honda bamboozled you. nope just access to the frame VIN!! Haha
That is the mode door actuator not blend
This is not the blend door actuator. Blend door actuator is on the driver side and you don’t need to remove anything to access it
Find the 10mm socket and most likely the 7mm socket is hanging out with it... baaahahaha 🤣...
