How To Replace Garage Door Springs - Torquemaster Plus, Wayne Dalton / How to Wind unWind Springs
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
My Garage door Suddenly would not open. After some investigation i found it had a broken spring. This Guide should help you through the same process , replacing spring and gettin the garage back up and running with out spending a lot of money.
I purchased the springs from waynedaltonparts.com. I have no affiliation with this company or their website - but they did sell me the correct springs at a great price with fast shipping.
Here is the manual I demonstrate in the video: www.waynedaltonparts.com/a/do...
And here is the lithium grease I recommend for the bearings amzn.to/36ARu4i

I just repaired my Garage door and could not have done it without this video best you tube video ever! now I can get my classic car out of the garage.
A second set of hands always helps. I see you had some at the end, and she left. My wife will always assist as much as she is able. Anyway, it's a great video. Very helpful, and I'll order the springs. Thanks!!!
Thanks man, great video. Found my broken spring in about 15 mins. Now I’m waiting on the replacement parts to show up.

Hopefully, everything works out smoothly!
Watched 3 videos before yours and you really simplify the whole project. Thank you!
I put new doors up and have stalled loading the springs. I am familiar with the old spring style that will kill you if something happens but am having trouble understanding the procedure to load these new style springs. You just told me everything I need to know in a manner that is very understandable. I have problems reading instructions but with you coming to my aid I am very encouraged. I like your style of instruction. Thank you so much.

I just ran across your video while searching for Torquemaster Plus spring installation. I had never even heard of Wayne Dalton garage door openers until I recently bought a house that had one installed. Your video was extremely helpful. Thanks a ton!!
I have the same type in my daughters’ house. I did find a KZread channel that did show this type of repair for the Torquemaster plus unit. Your video is very good and to the point. Thank you for your time
Both of my springs snapped. Your video was spot on.. didn’t see any other Wayne dalton diy videos. Much appreciated!
Thanks. I had a Wayne Dalton door get off track. I don't think a spring is broken but I will probably have to adjust springs. Now I know how the system works. Knowledge is power! Thanks for the thorough walk through.
My neighbor just had his spring break and now we can get his door fixed and save a bundle, Well done video and many thanks.
Dude you’re a money saver. This is the only video I found. Great job and thank you
Thanks a million for making this!! Had a broken cable. You really saved my A$$ a lot of headache and money. Not only that, my springs were wound up to 30 turns. Can’t believe they hadn’t snapped yet. Operation is WAY more smooth and less jerky now. Thanks again!!

Great Video! I have a Torquemaster but have not yet had the pleasure of replacing the springs. This video will definitely help! I’m a fellow Texan from the Austin Metro area.
EXCELLENT VIDEO! This made my "issue" completely understandable when my garage door decided not to open in Wilmington, NC. Like you said, there are tons of videos with other types of door counter-balance systems, but not the Torquemaster. This made my job super easy. Thank you!

@@Donnythelatemodeltech NOTE: I'm signed in on my girlfriend's account right now, but I got the parts and replaced the spring and associated components in less than an hour. It worked out perfectly. I can see how garage door companies would charge hundreds of dollars for this "service" too... Sam :-)
Just ordered my parts for door. Thanks for making the video.
Nice job! Walked me right through it. Thank you. As of this post date the best price I found was from M.C. Overhead Door out of Cochranton, PA. $175.00 for both TorqueMaster Plus Springs. Weight 110-119 lbs. Good luck all!
Thanks for the video. I had a unique issue where I installed new torquemaster plus springs a few months ago and it was working mostly fine up until recently. The door got twisted and bent the top arm bracket and nearly ripped the top right roller bracket off the door. I was able to straighten the parts out but it keyed me into an issue with the spring balance. Your video helped me realize that you have to 1. Adjust the tension cables prior to winding the springs and 2. Wind each side 2-3 rotations at a time. I had originally rotated the right 16 times and then went to the left and turned that 16 times. After doing each side 3 rotations at a time, the result was night and day. If only the instructions that came with the springs had bothered to mention any of this. Although it's ultimately on me for not pulling up the owners manual prior to the original install. Either way, your video was a huge help
Looked at several videos, and none I found were as detailed as yours, other than getting a little dizzy with the camera movements, (LOL), this how-to video, was GREAT!!!!
Thank you for this video. I live in west Texas and my springs broke your set by step video help me out. Thanks again
Louisiana boy here. I know what you mean about the heat. Anyway, your video is the best by far. I would have never thought of putting zip ties on the springs to keep them from traveling inside the tube. Anyway, I have one spring broken and will replace it today. I know this is a few years later but, a quick pointer: lube your chain, fittings, rollers and cable mechanisms with Lithium grease or Kroil. That'll help with door noise and will also help it to travel a lot smother. Thanks from the land of constant 100 degree temps.🥵
You just saved me some money. Appreciate the information here. My cables came off the guide wheel and I couldn't open or close it past 2 ft. It was just stuck.

Awesome video. My garage door wouldn't open by hand today and watching this I was able to diagnose that the right spring is broken so I relieved the tension on the left side. Garage door is going to be unused until I get the new spring kit and thanks to this video I believe I can do the repair myself.

Just wanted to let you know that your video saved me a ton of money. My garage stopped moving all the way up. About half way. Called a garage door place and they won’t be out until Monday. Saw your video and noticed you said there’s a maintenance toggle. I went up the ladder and looked. Low and behold the left side’s switch was in the maintenance mode. Flipped it. Made sure the tension on both springs were strong and reran the garage door. BOOOM! Worked. Apparently the door has been using only one side the entire time?

Im about to attempt this myself. They make it sound a lot scarier than it looks. Technician told me they dont do torque master and quoted me 1200 to convert to tension spring. Im not mechanic but i work as a machinist amd work on my car also. This video gave me the courage to attempt it myself and save a hundred fifty bucks.

Thank you for the video. A local garage door repair company representative would not accept the fact that you can just order the springs and replace them. They wanted to charge me $425 to do a complete conversion to the springs that you could see that are not inside the tube. So either her knowledge was lacking or she just wanted to charge me more money.

This is what I'm talking about, good explanation, you just saved me some $, it's difficult to pay someone when you live in a budget. Than you so much.
I reversed mine the first time. Red for right made sense to me.
Shut the door last night from within the house and when the door got to the 1 foot mark both cables let go. So your video is informational, lol
Well...Haellll.... August in Fort Worth and we're in a heat wave... gonna be lots of water and wiping the sweat off the brow! Nice video and making lots of sense.

Thanks bro! Yeah the paper instructions it came with are complete garbage. Your video was extremely helpful! THX
I’m here in Kyle, Tx I have the exact same one. House only 5yrs old
Like running lights on a boat, Port (RED) is on the LEFT.
Thanks for the video. From DC area. Wayne Dalton cable of a single door came off on one side. Looking for videos that can help me figure this out.
Hello I need to replace just the cable on this my tenants cut it. Does anyone know where I can get them ? Thanks
Wish i would have had your video a couple years ago….
PS: I think the "L" and "R" designations (gray and red colors) were oriented to how one would view the door from the outside, not the inside...

Ok
What part of Texas I have the same door My issue it’s I don’t know if my springs are broken and also were do you buy them
I’ve got one spring in my torquemaster, having issues figuring out what the deal is, I live in Florida snd yah hot as hell! Gotta figure this thing out no one wants to mess with this style spring for whatever reason Do I need to wind the spring before I put it in the bar? Then slide them on? Great video and awesome job!
When putting back the bar, does the "tear drop" portion point up, point down or does it not even matter?
Donny I’m in the middle of this project (just got the new springs yesterday) but I noticed that a couple of the teeth on the wire coil thing (not the white gear inside the bracket) are “chipped” off. Would this require me to replace that part or can I just avoid the chipped teeth on the gear when I’m ratcheting?
Hi, what would you suggest if the cable is stuck and the torquemaster plus cannot release tension. The door won't open. Is it safe to cut the cable while it has tension? Wouldn't the drum keep the spring from unloading its stored energy?
I have the same type of garage, when I pull it up I hear I cranking sound but if I try to push it down it won't move at all. Do you think one of the springs is broken?
Where did you order the new springs from? And how did you figure out? What size Springs you needed?
do we have updated links to order the torque master springs? the website in the description doesn't work.
Great video! Thanks! Was wondering why you didn't just flip the bar around instead of swapping out the springs from left to right?

My door keep bidding up stopping my garage door opener from opeining or closing the door i have a newly build house about a year and a half old i should be having problems with it anyone know a way to fix it
My plastic gears came out. Which way do they go back in
both sides of my system have tension but one side randomly started making the most horrid grinding sound. i do notice that this whole time the Pole knob in with the up "maintanence" position. i wonder if that made some issue. Playing with the tension alone is a clankly/grindy mess. I had to stop before really doing anything tonigth since it would walk up the kids. Any thoughts on what might be the issue?

Honestly, I have no idea. This was the only time I’ve messed the garage springs. I’ve replaced the motor twice , and those things just die.
You can also pull on that big rope to disconnect the door opener. ;p @20:00 ok, I guess with that system you have to do it that way. ;) @39:00 just clamp a vise grip on the track. The door should at least balance about 1/2 way open, and, if the springs are perfect, should balance at _any_ position.
What a video man! i had those darn springs fail on me today and will need replace them. can you help with where you ordered them? I'm north of houston in spring,TX

How come you just flip the instead of pulling both springs out again?? Just saying!!!
You could’ve flipped the bar and it should work
LOL the title should be if you want to save money don’t do what I Did
This guy doing all this work but I would recommend getting better springs. A lot of effort and time and in a couple years he’ll be doing it again. He chose the same cheap spring the manufacturer used instead of a large torsion spring that would last over a decade
It’s a pos system. It’s so difficult to buy parts for it in Canada
@Donnythelatemodeltech
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really didn't enjoy this too much.
Its better get torsion springs…much better.
That door weighs 230lbs it’s a wind load 9100 the non wind load weighs 125lbs I put these things in and work on them every day that motor is gonna be shot lifting up all that weight
Great video, but it is the worst door ever
Dude I will never do that way. That's totally wrong how you did it. I do that job for more than 10 years and that is not how you change the springs in the garage.
