Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Replacing both cables on your garage door my seem difficult. It's actually pretty easy once you understand how to do it. Torsion spring's are what counter balance the garage door weight. The torsion spring system and cable's work in unison, so you want to be sure you know what you're doing. Garage door spring's are very dangerous. This video show's how to replace the garage door spring's without dealing with the dangerous spring's.

Perfect! One side broke at the bottom loop and so I figured I'd go to Lowes and grab a replacement. As you mentioned, they only sell the longer extension spring cables, but I thought I could cut it and crimp a barrel on it. Wrong! Regular pliers do not work for this. Scavenged a cable from the door we don't use and tried for an hour to get it on. Seemed impossible with the cable tension so I called for service, but they were closed for the day. Watched this video, ordered the right parts and a pair of vise grips on Amazon and they arrived the next day. In 30 minutes, I replaced the broke cable and did the other side too since that cable was frayed. Not a lot of room to work on the ladder, but I got it done and saved a large service fee. Thanks again!

A shockingly fast, flawless fix. Thank you, very much. If there is a Menards store in your state, you might find the cables sets for the 8’ and 7’ foot doors in the aisle- I did tonight. My store had them mixed on the hook, so make sure you grab the right set. They have a cheap 3 pack of vise grips too, if yours have gone missing.

i dont ever comment on videos but this legit saved me $$$. I got quotes for this work between $100-$240, but legit followed this video and replaced it in 5 mins by simply following advice and buying cables from Amazon. Lowes, and home depot do not carry these! I would add a bit more advice however, make sure the cable lengths are the same as the one you are taking off. There are different lengths, but i found mine was 8’6 and i measured the new cable and old cable to make sure they are the same length before attempting to do the install. Great job and thanks for posting this video!!!

Great video! Went to the comments section. Didn't even watch other videos anymore after checking out the positive feedbacks. After 2 hours I replaced both cables. Took longer than anticipated because my door is old school from the early 90's. There's no knob fixture at the bottom of the door to hook the cable to. Instead there's a rod with a pin so the only way to remove the cable is to pull down the whole bracket/roller assembly about 2 inches so that I can slide the rod out to free up the cable. Safer design but not repair friendly. Thanks for this great video i saved a couple hundreds. 🤙🏽

After (a lot) more perseverance I was able to pry off the old cables. I did this after verifying the loops on the new cables would fit over the knob on the bottom bracket. I think what happens is the loop elongates over time and mine just fit much tighter which is probably a good thing. I think the only additional tip I'd make is to put a bend in the cable where it comes out of the wheel and wraps around, so it conforms better without a little hump there. Otherwise, I think this was best video. Trying to change the cables with the door down causes the bottom brackets to be jammmed near the floor with little access to get the cables off the hub (in my case). Thanks for the video.

That's great news you got it off! And also, great tip. People will read this and gain something from it. Also, you don't want to try and take cables off when the door is down. That's when the tension is applied and very dangerous. Do it with the door open. Tension is reduced GREATLY. Allowing you to do the cable change without fighting spring tension. Thanks for watching my video Dan! 👍🏼

Same here. $550 for the springd, and another $125 for the cables. Then we noticed cracked hinges. Aaaand he wanted to replace those at $25ea. I got him down to $350 for the springs and let him do it since it wouldn't open and we needed it. Then I bought heavy duty cables, hinges, and rollers for $110 on Amazon. Came out way ahead.

Hey, thanks for the continuing support of my channel and vids. The method in the video is super safe. No dealing with tension springs. I always try to lookout for the novices out there saftey. Also, even if you would bar the springs to change cables, it can be a pain in the arse to get the hoop off the bottom fixture. Much easier with the door open. 💯👊🏻

Thanks! Somehow the loop on one of my cables had gotten frayed and was hanging by one strand. Only found it by accident while lubing the door for noise. Interestingly, when the replacements arrived and I got the damaged one off, it was 4 inches shorter than the new one. My guess was that since it was on a spring, it would've taken up the slack. I was wrong. The effect was that the opposite side of the door didn't close by about 4 inches. Since there was nothing wrong with the other cable, I wasn't going to replace it. But then I had to. And that turned out to be a good thing as it was frayed for an unknown reason much higher up.

Hi Garage Door Genius, thanks for this video .Quick question, there is a part that goes over the pin that the cable is on, on the side bottom of my door, which then seems to run under the black bumper thing that runs all the way across the bottom of the door -- so I wouldn't be able to just pull the cable off the pin. Ever seen that? Any suggestions? (I was going to try to post a photo but I see I can't do that on here.) Thanks!!!

  • @StevenPG72

I learned the hard way but first I found out you can't put too much tension on the cable, I gave it a 360 revolution of tension and my door didn't want to stay down haha, then they fail to mention that one side of the wheel where you roll the cable on is clockwise and the other side is counter clockwise haha. So I had to load the cables on the wheels 3 separate times both sides for a total of 6 haha, but I can say now I know how to replace cables in garage doors. But thanks for the video at least it gave me a blueprint general idea of how to do it
