    Brother! i owe you a six pack of beer for this one 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 I have had this rough start issue for months. Mine was weird. It would start great after about 5 hours. Or after a quick run. But if it sat for about 40 minutes to an hour, it would barely start and rough idle. I was about to buy MAF, Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter and just start throwing money at it until i found this. I found that Bosch FPR on RockAuto for $30 and bam! All good. The pliers with the ring was hard for me to get off but aside of that it all went smooth thanks to you. Much appreciated for this video. Saved me a ton of money and headaches

    Lemontech74 Well just make sure ur fuel pump is turning and a good clean fuel filter is on there. The fuel pressure regulator is between $30 and $45 on eBay .. so hopefully that will work and resolve that annoying start issue.

    Christopher Eaton nope haven’t done that job yet. But it seems pretty easy. Just so much to disassemble step by step. Check out pelican parts.com ,I think they had pictures on how to do that project. And I always say check for any codes on the obd 1 or 2 system beforehand.

    Hey man, thanks for the video! Would the fpr also cause a rough idle that vibrates the car?

  • @piscatawaymechanic

    @piscatawaymechanic

    5 ай бұрын

    It could make it have rough idle. But I would suggest checking the blink codes to find out what else is wrong or going on with ur car.. it’s the small black box attached to the wall where the ecu / computers are located.. because there are a number of possibilities like failing ignition distributors or spark plug wires, failing fuelinjectors,clogged fuel filter, if check engine light is on ( it’s time to replace the 02 sensor) , the list goes on and on of possible issues..but fix whatever blink codes pop up first.

    This is a good video. Today I followed it on my e320 1994. I succeeded, but almost had a big problem. I was working on a warm engine (an hour after being driven) on a fairly warm day. Before removing the regulator, I unscrewed the brass cap and depressed the Shrader valve with a screw driver. I got a hiss and then some gas dribbled out. I let it dribble for about ten records and then replaced the cap. Next I disconnected the rubber hose and pulled out the C-clamp. I wiggled the valve with my left hand. It popped out followed by pressurized burst of gasoline that sprayed my face, jacket, etc. Luckily the glasses protected my eyes. I washed my face and finished the job. Getting the c-clamp seated again took quite a few tries. Question - why was I sprayed with about a pint of gas? I’m assuming that after I closed the Shrader valve, the internal fuel pressure started to climb again because of the warm engine. Is that right? If so, is this avoided by working only on a cold engine ?

  • @piscatawaymechanic

    Well may not have drained all of it which is hard to do unless u force the fuel line clear of fuel .. if you don’t start the car u won’t activate the fuel pump to build up the pressure again . So the pump will keep the correct pressure for the next starting of the engine. So u kinda have to leak , spill fuel to release it.. only then will there not be anymore pressure built up in the line/ rail . If u get what I’m saying.

    Hi there, just want to know if the regulator can cause flooding when I try to crank it over, car is a 1996 W202 C280 with M104, I have spark (tested all 6 plugs) but when I crank the engine it won't start, cranks very fast and can smell fuel out exhaust, I pull the plugs and all are soaked in fuel, I clean them off and reinstall and try to crank and same thing happens again. All plugs coils and leads are new genuine parts, battery is brand new. Fuel pressure regulator is original MB factory part (25 years old) Don't want to keep throwing parts at it. Any help greatly appreciated.

  • @piscatawaymechanic

    @piscatawaymechanic

    2 жыл бұрын

    I know the m104 always have head gasket failure..which allows oil and water to get into the spark plug area ..your fuel injectors could be leaking ,..it could be a number of things ..I would strongly suggest if your mercedes has a obd2 port under the driver side dash. hook it up to the obd2 fault code reader.. any faults with your car will be shown and should be tackled first ..

    Well check to make sure , u hear the fuel pump turns on/ running Then check fuel lines and fuel filter is in good condition or need to be replaced.. big signs of needing new spark plugs, wires and ignition packs , when u press the gas pedal it’s Hesitant To go fast ,lacks power, shaking etc .. biggest sign of bad fuel pressure regulator is long starting / crank times, needing to depress the gas pedal to assist in starting the car ,fuel smell around the regulator unit.. Hope any of these tips help you !!!

    Shshssh Dhshsshsh I would say your fpr has gone bad . No fuel should be going into the vacuum hose at all .. so would recommend replacing your fpr ASAP.. I think when the fpr fails they immediately lets fuel leak/sucked up into the vacuum line. Hope this helps you !!👍🏻
