Appreciate your post. I used it to replace my driver side window regulator today. I am as "un-mechanical" as one can get and I'm very slow and cautious. Using your video and constantly replaying it at each juncture I was able to perfectly and successfully replace the window regulator. Shop estimate was $500. It cost me to do it myself > $75 for the Amazon part, $6 for the 7 & 10 mm ratchet heads and 2 hours of my time. Learned a lot and it was very satisfying to do it myself .... not to mention the money saved! Thank you!

Amazon is out and it seems only place to get it is at the dealership for $160. As Chevy stopped manufacturing 1st gen Volt the rampant breaking down of the plastic clip has made these highly valued commodity.

So this made the process super easy!!!! Thank you. I've never owned a hybrid before, so when someone tried to break into the window I anticipated spending about a thousand dollars getting it fixed. I spent $10 on a panel popping tool, and then $129 on the regulator.

Just finished my driver's side window... I was a little hesitant, but it works just as described. Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Not sure how much money you saved all of us together but I know it is a lot. I bought the part from Napa $111. I then called 3 places to get install quotes, the lowest was $140. so did it myself with your help. - THANK YOU!

FYI, when looking for a replacement, please note that there were two different window regulator designs for the Volt. The change was made either for or during MY2014. The two different designs are not interchangeable as the plugs are different. Most sellers on eBay don't know that, so check your window regulator plugs and check the plugs in the auctions!

Other than an issue where a piece broke off and my cable got wrapped around something and my window was getting caught halfway up, the entire process took less than an hour. $130. was the cheapest I could find the regulator after hours of searching, in case anyone's wondering, purchased from eBay.

Thanks for the video; probably one of the most comprehensive how-to's I've ever watched! I've changed my share of power window regulators in my 62 years. If you have any mechanical aptitude at all, this job's one step up from changing a tire! This was the first regulator of this type I'd changed, and it took me about a half hour. Having done it once, I could probably shave ten minutes off that. It's THAT EASY TO DO! If you're going to do this, get yourself a set of trim removal tools. They're cheap, they'll make removing the door easier, and won't scratch your paint. They'll also makes peeling that plastic cover under the door panel off! In my case, when I finished checking the window operation before putting the door on, I ended up with a Check Engine light. Not sure why. The Volt uses the OBDII for all manner of things not usually associated with a "Check Engine." For some reason, when I shut off the car without being in the driver seat it confused the computer. Said there was "No key found" and the door open dinger kept sounding. I sat in the seat, started the care again, at which point I saw the CEL, and shut it off. I erased the codes and restarted the car. The he light went out and stayed out. ...Just in case this happens to you... If you're reading this in and around January 2023, know that these window regulators are pure unobtainium. I couldn't find one anywhere except the dealer... for $240.00!!! UGGGHHH! ...Supply chain issues, supposedly... GO BRANDON!!!...

Very useful video, thank you so much for the help! I bought my replacement Dorman regulator (751-575) from Autozone but it came with a broken plastic piece that retained a tensioner spring near the motor. I was able to scavenge and modify the similar functioning piece from the broken regulator but to install it required taking almost the entire assembly apart and redoing the cabling from scratch which took several hours and was immensely challenging. If you find a similar broken piece, before removing the motor to fix it I would strongly recommend just returning and replacing the entire assembly!

I had to change my window regulator a few months ago and started having a lot of problems. 1 the auto down stopped working just on driver side. 2 the auto lock again just on the driver's side door would not auto lock but sometimes it would. 3 took the motor out of my old regulator and that fixed everything.😉

Thanks for the overview. I had two things go sideways in an otherwise smooth copy of the video. The rear clamp on the orignial regulator was still attached to the window and I missed that when I removed the old one. When I installed the new one it ran up into the old clamp and that messed up its ability to go all the way to the top of its run. I removed the new regulator and plugged it into the power supply and the door into its power supply and ran it up and down its length and that reset it. I then reinstalled the new regulator inside the door and things worked with that aspect going forward. The second thing was minor, but when reattaching the door handle cable, there was flat tab on one side I couldn't see clearly in the dark even with my headlamp on and part of it snapped off. Everything seems to function ok testing the automatic and manual locks so it may not be an issue, but both things are little gotchas to watch out for.

Just one point: They never came with that level of window tint, that door was apart at least once before (not necessarily previous regulator issues) to have the aftermarket tint installed. Like others have said, great video, thanks for making it! I just replaced mine on my 2014 Volt, piece of cake. One thing I would suggest to anyone doing it, take some pictures of where that door cable connects into the inside door handle for reference when you put it back together. It's not complex, but it took me a couple of times to figure out just where that clip locks into place, my car sat for a couple of days while I waited for the part, I forgot. I used the Dorman 751-575 part on my car, everything was an exact match. $80 plus tax from Amazon, $10 for the tool to remove the plastic attachments to get the door off, had the 7mm and 10mm sockets. One of the easiest projects I have ever done. Thanks again!

I found my regulator to be intact outside of the plastic clips and ordered more online for very cheap (under 15 dollars for the pair). If you go this route, note you may have to use a razor to shape the clip near where the wires fit in to make it look like the old clip and actually be able to connect the wires to both. This might sound confusing but if you find this comment and are in similar/same situation as me, leave a reply and I’ll get back to you within a day

At the end make sure you adjust the window clamps or else when you roll down the window it might not go down all the way. The best thing to do is loosen the window clamp screws before installing. This will allow the window to drop in the clamp all the way on the first try. Then just roll the window up all the way and then tighten each of the two window clamp screws. I had to remove the panel and cover again to adjust the window clamp screws after I had assembled everything back. Kind of a pain but lesson learned. I originally had thought the window maybe was not supposed to go all the way down until I rolled down the other windows. It was up like a half inch in the back. Grrrr

Took me 3 week. First week, ordered just the clips and took a week to arrive. The wires didn't work, took the motor out and the wires were messed up. Ordered replacement wires, took another week. The winding requires removal of the transmission wheel. Can't put the wheel back in due to snap out but not snap in, hammered it with a 2x4 between the plastic wheel and hammer, plastic transmission wheel broke off at the snap ring. Ordered the whole regulator assembly took another week. I'm sure some where some engineer thought I'm going to make this assembly as painful as I can. The window motor is screwed in with three screws, the transmission wheel doesn't have to be snap fitted to begin with but GM made it this way for no reason at all.

The first time this happened, the dealership charged me $550 for them to fix it. It just broke on me again. Doing this instead.

Took me 29 min and $75 😎 My brother paid $500+ at the dealership, TOTAL ripoff, not to mention they had the car for about 3-4 days. Unfortunately this was before mine had broken so I couldn’t save him.

It would’ve been nice if the camera were right on top of the parts he’s working on.
