How to Replace and Upgrade a broken Minn Kota Trolling Motor Head

I'm replacing and upgrading the head on my Minn Kota Maxxum 80lb trolling motor. I bought this trolling motor very inexpensively at a garage sale but it had a cracked and broken head held together with duct tape. I'll show you how I replaced and upgraded the head with the new style trolling motor head that has the yellow indicator dial. Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe.

    Made it look easy! My middle black piece that’s built it to the cover that holds the middle white gear in place broke off, have to replace the whole head because of that. Glad you posted this

    Thank you for the video, not to be a critic, I believe there is a tension screw on the foot pedal control to allow the cables some slack. You must have had a screw left over for the white clamp that held the wires in place , you mounted on the cable holding bracket not where it was removed from.

    There must be 8 videos on this repair on KZread. They all break in the same place. When I bought the replacement part on Amazon they said they had sold 50 so far this month ( it was mid June). There must be a design problem here. What gives Minn Kota? My motor couldnt have had 25 hours on it.

    Need help. When reinstalling cable gear and 4 screw bracket that holds cables down my cables were now too short. Bracket was about 1/4 inch short of holes matching up. I noticed that yours were also but you edited out that part. How did you get bracket to match up. I even put original head back on and cable bracket still wouldnt match up. What to do??

  • @ProWrenching

    I was able to get everything to line up eventually. I didnt use any special tricks- just pulled on the cables with some force. (I probably edited out the grunt while I was doing that!)

  • @ProWrenching

    @ProWrenching

    The yellow is the newer style head. My trolling motor had the head with the red indicator. I bought the newer style with the yellow indicator and it fit. I think the only difference is the style.

    Thanks for this video. If I don't have heat shrink, can I get by with electrical tape?

  • @ProWrenching

    @ProWrenching

    5 ай бұрын

    Yes. Heat shrink is best b/c it seals out the moisture and prevents corrosion, but electrical tape would also work.
