Thanks for excellent video with very clear instructions. For others looking do also look at other videos showing how to swap out just the motor without removing the whole regulator assembly. If the window is straight and if all was well before it stopped working check its not a fuse, check its not the switch (can you hear a click, or get a voltmeter and check for current from the switch wiring) then its likely just the motor gone. Once you are sure that its only the motor that has gone, you can get to it without removing the whole regulator assembly - search for Forester window motor replacement (or swap) take a look and decide yourself - less work and lower costs. BUT this video is great for showing where all the nuts bolts are and what they each do so do watch this through too - its way better than the others!

Thanks for the video, I just did this repair on my 2006 Forrester. Couple things I noticed different from your video. Some trouble I ran into is that my window was up and the motor was not working at all anymore so I had some trouble getting the window down but I just rapped on the old window motor with a screwdriver while pressing the button (once I had access to it) and it eventually came down. The window clamps did not spin on the 2006 and were not locktited, so they just unscrewed nicely, no need for vice grips. You also don't need to remove the window completely out of the door, I just pulled it up all the way and clamped it with soft clamps so it would not fall back down. I had some problem with the OEM replacement regulator, the two screw rocker arm brace was just a slight bit off from the original, I could have drilled out the door hole a bit, but instead I just pulled the old brace off the old regulator and switched them. Otherwise, smooth sailing. Thanks for the overview.

I am happy to see your 06 wasn't locktited, I am about to do an 06 too, and that is the only part that bothered me, I have done many before, but not 03 to 08, the older ones is what I am used to, thank you for the details...

AWESOME video!! Mine broke on the way home today, I watched this video, and had the regulator out in 45 min. This was very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Yvette Butler I'm glad this video helped.. This is not one of the easiest regulators to change. But it sure helps if you already know what your up against before you start the job.

My window regulator is fine (thank God) but, I needed to see how the door panel comes off so I can re-install a door lock cylinder retaining clip, which had broken when someone tried to jimmy the lock. Thanks for creating the video!

Thanks, I was actually replacing the side passenger mirror and this was helpful in showing how the panel was attached and how to remove it. (I didn't need to remove the whole thing, just pry the corner open, but wanted to see how it was attached first.)

alot of work. now for me, my motor went bad. So I removed door panel, I jammed a flat head in the window to hold glass up, removed speaker 🔊, then I used a number 3 Phillips to remove the three screws holding motor to door. the motor came out and I put new motor in. for some reason, the whole motor and track assembly is cheaper than the motor alone. so I ordered the whole kit for like $35 on ebay and removed motor from the assembly and used that motor to put back in the forester!

My driver's side window on my '07 works fine but it's WOBBLY AF, probably from previous owner pushing on it every time they closed the door. Love that frameless design.

Hey, do you know if the mechanism/motor in forester SG are the same before and after the lifting? Same question about the regulators on the same side but front and rear doors - are there any differences? Thanks cheers

Helpful video, but helpful criticism; be more organized. Spent what felt like half of the latter half of the video taking about the glass and "you should be able to get to the regulator, oh but you have to take out this bolt as well before you do." The video probably could have been less than ten minutes had you structured your video it's edited out your recorded discoveries instead of adding in floating text.

hy!on all cars to acces the little motor that raised/lower the window you need to do the same thing, the subaru blame is that they are using a lot of clips...
