I was honestly suuuuuper skeptical about this I couldn't see how an eraser, some alcohol, aluminum (or aluminium for some of you), and a blow dryer (or in my case a heat gun) could fix my 'dead' ram it all seemed like to much of a 'home remedy' . But I figured "screw it what's the worst that could happen? it doesn't work and I go back to having 4 gigs of ram for the time being." So I tried all three methods. And it freaking worked! I could have done this like a month ago had I known about this! Thank you man from the bottom of my heart!! I don't think you understand how much I, and many others, truly appreciate your help.

what was the final method that worked?

IT WORKS. My ram stick came down with some errors and I even diagnosed it using window's memory app to make sure it was that ram stick. I had blue screens and crashes whilst using that ram stick in my system and when I took it out the pc errors stopped. I felt desperate today for some reason and didn't want to buy a 2 kit of ram as I only needed one, so I looked up this and other vids and also read the comments. Here's what I did. I stripped my ram stick of the heat sink and glue residual as much as possible then I wrapped it twice in aluminum foil twice. I didn't have an oven but I did have an air fryer which I preheated to 400F. I let it heat up first and then I placed he wrapped of stick in there and took it out after 6 mins and then took out to set it outside to cool. I waited until it cooled down and placed it in my system to test it using the window's memory app. I did the standard test and waited patiently to find zero errors by the end of it and now I'm happy that I have my 32 GBs of ram back in my system.

Amazing! I was completely skeptical. I had a bad DDR3 RAM that was preventing my Lenovo W530 from booting up. I just used the first method using alcohol and an eraser, did not have to use a tooth brush, and the RAM started working! Could not believe it worked. Glad I did not have the do the 2nd or 3rd step. I would not even have attempted the 3rd method, since that seemed labor intensive for a 4GB RAM costing only around $12. Thank you for the excellent instructions.

Its not an IC,its a capacitor!! And what you are checking for is a shorted cap..

My ram still not working... I have cleaned the ram using eraser and nail paint remover... I have also cleaned RAM slots. I have tried changing the slot of ram. But still not working

Man you have messed up. Nail paint remover has Acetone that damages the pcb and chips by melting the plastic, and sometimes can even cause your motherboard to blow. Congratulations if it didn't blow.

its work for me.. wrap it with aluminium foil.. then blow with heatgun.. voila.. its done.. haha
