How to repair an Eathmover or OTR Tyre with vulcanisation (Major damage)
In this video we guide you through the process of a major repair (a repair using vulcansiation to cure the rubber).
This tyre had been plugged in the sidewall which is very bad practice and certainly not a repair! Our resident repair specialist shows all the stages of how to repair an earthmover or OTR tyre. Repairing a tyre like this is permanent and enables the tyre to run for the rest of it's life, it's also much better for the environment than disposal.
The stages covered in this video are as follows:
00:00 - Introduction
00:26 - Cutting away the surface rubber
01:07 - Exposing the steel cords
01:40 - Removing the cords and cutting out the injury
02:26 - Preparing the inside of the tyre for the patch
02:39 - Preparing the patch
03:19 - Applying the patch to the inside of the tyre
03:54 - Application of glue to the outside of the tyre
04:00 - Filling the outside of the tyre with extruded rubber
04:56 - Fitting the airbags and heat pads for vulcanisation
05:45 - Removal of heat pads and air bags after vulcanisation
05:58 - Buffing the tyre to the original contours of the tyre

Hi I've recently got into vulcanising in Ireland from having to give up my previous job in cunstruction. The person who is training me up has only should me the basic steps as all he want to do is breakdown call out, and there is a language barrier. I would be eager to learn more about the process from how to work out the proper size of gator patches to use. There is charts up in our wall I don't know how to use them an if I'm being told the right gator to be using. Most of our work is in the agricultural end of the business an could you show red rollers you use. Is it custom made?

Every manufacturer has size charts available to use. The patch size can be determined from those. One thing to bear in mind are your A&R readings (the length and width of the injury). The rollers we use are custom made :)
Okay what happens if a ct 68 A patch bubbles on the side ??? Help

Apologies for the very slow reply. If any patch bubbles, it must be removed and redone.
