Battery chargers are an important piece of equipment in any shop or household, but if the clamps are failing, then you can be left stranded, or even worse have a fire. Our smart charger was giving us fits recently when we needed to charge up some vehicle batteries. The charger would connect and start charging, but then start screaming at us saying the battery was bad and the connection had failed.
The entire issue turned out to be in the positive terminal clamp. The attachement bolt had rusted and was allowing the terminal on the wire to arc, generating a lot of heat, melting the jacket and causing a big ole fire hazard.
Jefferson takes you through the process of diagnosing the problem with a multimeter and then shows you how to replace/repair the clamp so it will be good as new.
