They do go back in, but you need to be gentle. Watch several youtube vids about nissan trunk liners and you will see that they are easy. Not intuitive, but easy.
PLEASE! I took mine out VERY slowly and they all broke and now NONE of them will go back in.
Mines won't come out so easy

@@1AAuto Thanks, my point was that the title to the video implies removal of the entire trunk liner, not just the trunk lid. My specific issue was needing to remove the carpet/matt. I eventually found two pins hidden behind the back seat. They came out easily enough, and promptly fell under the seat. Oh well, at least it is out.
