What a fantastic video. Very detailed and easy to understand. No wonder the mechanics charge so much. It is a lot of work but doable if you are handy. Thanks for all tips 😀

Thanks for the kind words. Those poor mechanics do work their tales off.

Very helpful, but I simply soldered an extension to the broken section of wire of the release cable. Still no clue why it decided to randomly snap. My 2006 looks a little different, but the process for getting to the trunk latch is basically the same. Thanks for the video :D

Thank you, I was able to replace the cable at my Toyota Aurion 2009 with your guide. Had to increase the tension a bit by adding an extra buffer before the ending. The release mechanism wouldn't work otherwise. But that's because I am using a $90 cable from Amazon rather than the original Toyota one. It's great that these older cars allow you to do a lot of the mending yourself. My dad would be proud. He fixed his own car in the 90s too.

@@bounder97 have you used the eyeson daughter board for your vista? If not I would highly recommend it. It allows you to remotely monitor your system. Great add-on and great folks over there at eyeson. If not would make for a great new video series.

@@llN3M3515ll Actually, I bought one about 6 months ago. I was going to teach myself how to install and program it and then make a video. Major life changes have that on hold temporarily. However, I do look forward to installing it. I also have heard good things about it. Do you know if the folks at Eyeson have any training material for installing the unit? I have not researched it yet.

I'm very glad to hear that. Stay tuned. Tommorow I will be posting how to replace your radiator. Your car is old enough that it should be going bad anytime now. Don't worry, its a piece of cake to replace. I just replaced my 2004 camry radiator.

Crazy how it's always the trunk cable that gets worn out with these Camry's. Over time that metal wire attached to the release lever mechanism release gets stretched too far and loses tension. Though it's not mandatory to replace it as long as the gas cable is working fine, it's just an inconvenience to always have to use your key to access the trunk.

Thanks for making this. Just used this vid to do this on my 2016 camry. Mostly the same except there are two bolts instead of one on the rear seat, and the cable had a black tip on one end and a white tip on the other. The black goes in the trunk, the other in the cabin.
