    Hey man, awesome video. Excuse my ignorance but maybe you can give me some direction. I ride and 16 dyna and I’ve been having an clunk (chain skipping sound) issue during heavy acceleration in low gears. It only occurs for a second When under heavy throttle in first and sometimes second. If i ride the bike like a normal person i can’t hear any kind of slipping through any of the gears rolling through all 6. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance

    Great video. Thanks for all the information. My Road King went down about a month ago right before spring weather and I have been trying to work on it since. I believe it's my transmission, It will not shift at all. All the shops are backed up so I'm on a waiting list. I decided I want to do it myself but do it right. I already checked my clutch plates so I think it's time to pull my tranny. I have never done this before so trying to watch as many videos as I can and research what I need to do.

    Great video thanks! That had a lot of good information. Looks like i will likely need to pull my transmission on my 17 Lowrider S. It makes a clucking sound in 2nd gear only when i am decelerating, the clunking sound is accompanied by a bounce or vibration that goes through shifter and linkage. This only happens in second gear and only happens when decelerating. The bike drives and shifts normal under acceleration. Seems kind of odd to me, maybe a worn dog ring or possibly a broken second gear? Will be draining the fluid this afternoon and taking a closer look.

  • @HarleyDavidsonWizard

    @HarleyDavidsonWizard

    In my experience the redline with shock proof is to slick. During dissembling bikes with redline shock proof you could see unusual ware patterns on bearings indicating "skating", rather than normal spinning. The redline used to be all the rage, but after a couple years in 6speeds we've found belray hypoid gear oil to be the best and that's what we recommend if people ask.

  • @HarleyDavidsonWizard

    @HarleyDavidsonWizard

    2 жыл бұрын

    to do a 6 speed on you bike it requires a complete new gear set. The new 6 speed kit will reuse almost noting of your original 5 speed other than the transmission case, the 6 speed kits at normally longer then your Oem setup and if you were to add reverse to it it would stick out the right sided of the bike even further, likely causing the exhaust system to have clearance issues. Id recommend calling baker transmissions and they will likely set you up with a whole new gear set and reverse kit.

    The gear pack assembly (AKA 35246-10B) comes as a complete assembly, leaving just a couple bearings, front sprocket, main drive gear and primary bearings for a tech to install. Through daily use I use 1 ratchet strap through the front wheel and wrap it around the wheel chock so the front wheel is positivity clamped to the hoist. For certain work I use a second ratchet strap through the front wheel and wrap it around the bottom of the hoist (super duper insurance the wheel wont come out of the wheel chock). And if the bikes on the hoist over night I leave a flat jack under the back of the frame just incase the tires go flat overnight. That keeps them stable.

    I had a buddy with 2016 Deluxe he was towing but it was rocking back and fourth in gear! Should have been in neutral. He had a problem but not sure where probably the first/second shift fork? Also that Damper spring seat in clutch can fall behind the clutch hub! Talk about Junk!

    The new updated version of the main drive gear bearing is a single roller bearing with much larger balls that allows debris to be washed out of the bearing during normal use. Where as your original deighn double roller bearing "holds onto" debris inside the bearing and it eats up the bearing over time.

    Ok. Its the inner primary bearing race tool your looking for, there are 2 different styles. They both do the same job. The one im using in the video is the newer style Kentmore "Harley Davidson corporate tool" part number HD-34902-C. The aftermarket still makes the original style tool, here is a link to one on amazon amzn.to/2xxC41E . I have both tools. The one in the video is a little faster but the original style amazon one works well if the race has walked up the shaft and there isn't enough clearance.

    Thanks! Us motorcycle mechanics typically have small stalls like a hairdresser. And as I was coming up through the ranks there gets to be jealousy in between mechanics especially when you're flat rate as far as who gets what kind of jobs. So I took the opportunity to be in the basement by myself and have a work area probably six times the size of my "main floor" stall. It works well as I do all the big projects, wrecks, engine/trans builds, custom projects ect. It also keeps me from getting distracted with curious customers and questions. I'm still getting used to the space. I spend so much time walking back and forth. Lol

    That's not accurate information. Using a impact such as my electric milwaukee exerts almost no shock into the crankshaft as it his so hard and fast that the bolt has no option other then to unthread, Plus that's not how flywheels shift anyway.

    Impacts get a bad rap imo. If you have proper fitting sockets and the correct power tools the forces applied to the head of the fasners will be surprise when you compare a loctited bolt being hand untreated threaded vs with an impact. It's in my experience that with the impact you have better control of keeping the socket perfectly square on the head of fastener and the way in that the impact delivers power unthreads, breaks the locktite quick and easily. Where as when doing it by hand your fighting the binding of the locktite and your constantly applying pressure with your ratchet then unloading against the head to ratchet, then loading with the next stroke. Where with the impact it my sound like many small blows but how it transfers to the socket & ware on the head of the fastener is less. I don't use small impacts because its a annoying sound and is just less effective. Imo.
