How to Remove Adhesive From the Back of a Mirror DIY

Adhesive remover can be purchased here:
www.amazon.com...
In this video I show how liquid nail adhesive can be easily removed using the chemical Acrysol and a hand scraper. I tried many different types of chemicals and found Acrysol to work the best at breaking the bond between the adhesive and the back of the mirror. It was very easy to remove the adhesive using a putty knife after allowing the chemical solution the soak in the Liquid nail. I spent about 10 minutes scraping the adhesive off the back of the mirror.
The reason I decided to record myself doing this project was because I was unsuccessful in finding a video to show an easy way to do this. I hope this video is helpful.

Goo Gone will also work. You have to let it sit for at least 20 minutes first though. Make sure you clean it off with soap and water before you try to rehang it. Thanks for posting this.

I am amazed that someone used liquid nails to install that and not professional mirror mastic. I create custom mirror finishes and if I eve4 have A customer bring me a mirror like that I will be able to save it. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to get all that liquid nails off? As a glazier, mirror is actually pretty cheap stuff and the time you spent @ $100 hr I would be able to get you 3 or 4 mirrors that size. Here is another secret I recently discovered during an install. I had just put Carl mastic on the back off a narrow long mirror to mount on a column. Mirror mastic is seriously gooey stuff. I turned my back to move a few things and the client, looking at the front of the mirror, decided to move the mirror smearing the wall, furniture and a few other things with mastic. She freaked, I was stunned as I had no idea of how to get this stuff off all these surfaces, including carpet. I tried a few things and NOTHING WORKED. Then she really started to freak thinking about how her husband was going to react. I asked if she had any chemicals in her garage. We went into the garage and all I could find was stuff I had already tried. Then I spotted a bottle of Goof-Off and thought “ well, it can’t get any worse so we might as well try it”. And to my utter amazement it worked like charm removing the tar like mastic. We were both jumping for joy and more importantly I got paid for the final balance. This worked on freshly applied mastic and I am going to test it on some fully cured mastic. If that works I will just rebrand the stuff, give it a fancy name and sell it to the glazing industry. Haha.

Didn’t look to me like the adhesive was removed from the shiny front part of the mirror. What would you use when the glue or adhesive is on the front of the mirror?

I've had really good success with Goo Gone. The longer it sits the better. It you try it I'd suggest getting good coverage, let it sit several minutes, start to gently scrape (not the damage anything), and apply more as you go. Getting coverage on what ever you expose in the process. I hope this helps.

KATHERINE C.A. JONES it sounds like your asking about the front of the mirror I would use the same method in this video but be extra delicate as to not scratch the glass. If it's on the top like sides it should come up the same way just want to be delicate as to not chip a corner. I hope this helps.

I saw that however the same product is sold in a spray can so should have the same effect, just a smaller amount than the tin can.
