How to Remove a Pressed Cane Seat

Learn how to remove a pressed cane (aka sheet cane, cane webbing) chair seat with a steamer or vinegar.     @@nabindrasahadeo I'm unfamiliar with the term "paperback caning". Are you referring to NuKane webbing? That's a folded paper product with a string through the middle of each strand.

    Before I attempt to DIY this, can you tell me what a fair price for re-caning a chair like this would be?

    depends on where you live... and who is doing the work (are they hobbyists? do they pay rent on a shop or work from home). Short answer is $100 is exceedingly reasonable. The whole process takes about a day + materials. Materials are typically $25, the rest is labor. We charge $10/inch and are about double what people working out of their home are charging.

    We are aware - have purchased more expensive mics and problem solved - same issue for installation, shaker tape and splint videos. But all the rest are good. It just takes so long to produce that we haven’t remade this one, and instead have focused on new videos…as well as an upcoming book.

    What happens if the cane is impacted and stuck in the groove? Tried vinegar but it is impacted

    Your last resort is to let the inside of the groove dry completely and then use a chisel/blade to remove the material. It's not fun, but you'll get it done. Consider every inch a victory! Thanks for watching.
