You can insure the bike before you get the log book using the frame number

Hi mate really helpful video, i just bought myself a crf450 with a cr500 engine shoe horned into it 😎 the bike came with a certificate of newness and its first mot on my certificate of newness it states honda motor co imported the bike would i be right in thinkin they would of done the nova stuff when they imported the bike from japan or is there any way i can check? im itching to get out on the road ive got my v55/5 form fully filled in (thanks to your video) certificate of newness and my mot ready to send off with some id. Hi Alex, you need all the supporting forms and postal orders also. What is your name on Facebook and ile talk you through everything on there, this way you you it right 1st time as if you get it wrong you've wasted about 8 weeks waiting for your logbook to come back. What's your Facebook name? I've just registered my kx125 aseell, just waiting for logbook back from dvla now

When you said make sure tyre's are e stamp how do you go about getting them e stamp does the mot e stamp them 👍

Interesting all this, I’m restoring a 1981 Suzuki rm 465x, it spent 30 years in California so I’m assuming it bought brand new there, I didn’t import it myself, how would you fair with a certificate of newness on such an old bike🤔 or is there another option 🤔 it would be handy to road register the rm just to have the ability to give it a run now and again, and possibly increase its value 🤔

My application with documents has been with them for a week, I understand six weeks is a guideline but just want it all done as soon as possible! I’ve called them but they won’t give anything away. This is the number you need to be calling to chase applications up. They will habe revived your documents but like i said it takes up to 6 weeks for them to send your logbook out. Yes one came in 3 weeks ish . 03007906802

No you dont need insurance. You just need a receipt from who you bought the bike from

Motomash , If I order a certificate of conformity(£120fromktm) , Could I use that to apply a age related plate? As I don’t want to spend extra £50 for separate (dating letter) just so I don’t have to have a Q plate ?

If you buy a certificate of conformity from ktm (it should only be about £30) and you send all your other paperwork off with the certificate and mot certificate then you will receive a log book for an age related plate . Make sure your v55/5 is filled out the way I have explained in the video and you have all the other paperwork related to the application or it will get rejected

I have a 1986 bike I’m currently trying to get on the road I’ve got the dating letter but would I need a nova check being such a old bike do u think I can send off the v55 form without the nova form and be ok

I have a thumpstar 140 big wheel, I'm trying to do this on ATM,I have contacted stomp and filled out a warranty sheet, is this the same as proof of newness. I phoned the company I bought it off, Ng quad and motorcycle in Brixham. And he said for me to contact stomp driec ??

A warranty sheet is not a certificate of newness. You will need to contact stomp directly which is very hard to get a certificate of newness from them so I'm told. It's alot more difficult to register a pitbike for road use unfortunately

Date of original registration you leave blank as you hant registered the bike yet. 2nd question leave blank. And you want rhe tax to run from the date you send all your paperwork off pal 👍

Hi mate I’ve just got my v5 threw for my ktm but when I’ve tried to insure it bike sure/ Adrian flux have told me as my bike is on a daylight mot they will only insure it third party only. Did yOu have this problem?. Thanks Ewan.

Yep, it's totally normal. They will only insure it 3rd party only. Its the same for Me and every other cbt holder

Hi mate when I registered this bike, honda did the nova for me but I'm currently registering a kawasaki and had to call up hmrc and do the nova myself

You have to ask them to do it. Once they said they have done it then you need to call HMRC and ask them if its been added to the database

Honda are telling me for nova they just give me a nova reference number even tho in a previous email they said they was printing the nova certificate but now after 8 weeks apparently their not sending anything and I just use the reference number but I still don’t know if any vat is outstanding

Hi mate, no you can not do your nova untill you have certificate of newness and a purchase recipt as once you've submitted your nova they will send you an email requesting a picture of your certificate of newness and your purchase recipt. Need to know anything else, just ask mate 👍

@@justmax. hi max, I've just done the nova since it's changed! if your doing a bike older than 6years you have to select the delayed import from Ireland 🇮🇪! then write your receipt dated for some time in year 2020 for purchase and import date. hope it helps.

Thanks mate. When you come to insure your bike, 99%of the time they ask for a picture of a speedo on the bike which you just send them a pic of it on the bike and they will approve it. That's what I did. I used a speedo called 'triel tech' which I managed to find a copy version for only £20 and does exactly the same job as a genuine one. Ebay. I had a certificate of newness from honda si once I had that I filled out the nova application on the morning and on the afternoon I called HMRC and they had confirmed the taxed was payed on my bike when it was imported into the country and it waa added to the database as quick as that. Once I sent all my paperwork off it was only 2 weeks and I had my log book and reg plate made up and this was in the middle of a pandemic. It was very quick. If you need help with anything else at all just comment me mate 👍

@@motomash6143 hi yes got it through in the end ....had issues with nova for ages but in the end they signed it off on the invoice/ vat receipt as their isn't any certificate of newness with the m2r pitbikes then 8 weeks later got the reg from dvla ...hard work but worth it Cheers mark

Did you fill out the nova form online or just the v55 to see you you needed to pay vat

No mate you need to call the hmrc for the nova. Tell them your wanting to know if the vat has been payed on the bike. Honda actually sorted all that for me, I just called them up to see if all was good 👍

Hiya mate, thinking of getting into biking myself, I’m 18 and have no bike yet or cbt just trying to figure out how difficult it would be to ride a dirt bike on the road legally and if it’s worth it as everything I’ve found online is quite confusing. Hi mate regarding the VAT its about proving VAT was payed on the bike when it was imported into the country when it was brand new. This cam be proved by filling out a NOVA application or contact the hmrc who can confirm this and add your bike onto the datebase. Thats what I did. I sent all the forms off and got my log book back within 2 weeks 👍 What make is your bike? I may be able to help you out

Hi mate I assume they are cbt compliment ? Just thinking that cbt is max 14.6bhp output and the bike I want to stick on the road is yz125 with output of 35bhp is this just avoided or does it get questioned ? Not sure if you’ll reply tho worth the ask cheers.

All you need for daytime mot is road legal tyres and a number plate 👍 you DO NOT need a speedo or horn for mot

It is a legal requirement to have a speedo on a bike but all depends which copper you get. I've been pulled loads of times without a speedo or horn, or E stamped tyres and they have never said a word. All they arr intrested in is if you are insured, mot and taxed

Hi mate I've sent all my paperwork off last week so I'm waiting for my log book to arrive now. just send a photo copy of your driving licence. You can register your bike before you do your test as dvla don't require you to do a test to register a bike. But obviously you will need to do the full bike licence to ride a 450 on the road 👍

What you will need is a certificate of newness , nova application, purchase invoice from the person you bought the bike from, valid mot certificate, postal order for £55 and ££ for your years tax, v55/5 forms and a utility bill in your name . That is literally all you need to get your bike registered and road legal 👍 ive been waiting over a week now but I've been on this for 4 months now as honda took 7 weeks to get my certificate of newness to me. I'm hoping in the next week or so ile have my log book back 👍 good luck pal, that crf450 will be ace on the road 😎

Yes as the engine number won't match up to the records that your bikes manufacturer holds unless you know the number of your original engine

When you say send your licence, does it have to be a motorbike licence? Can it just be a driving licence? I want to road register the bike and then I will be booking my bike test?

If you email this address with your frame and vin numbers and tell them you want a certificate of newness. They will contact you when they have contacted honda in Japan confirming the year and they will ask for a fee for £30 to he bank transferred to them and in exchange they will send you a certificate if newness. Regarding your exhaust you will be fine for the mot. CertificateofConformity@honda-eu.com

Hi Motomash I have now got cert of newness, a day time mot. I called nova and they say the taxes have been paid and I will not need to do nothing else as the dvla will see its been paid? I am just filling out my V55/5 , im a little confused i just wondered if you could help? Where it says year of manufacture , my bike is a 2014 model but on my cert it says it was assembled on 1st of May 2013 for the UK market and is a 2024 model. So I take it its 2013? Also where it says date of original registration I don't know what date that is and date of registration in UK? any help would be much appreciated

The dvla will be able to see its been registered onto the nova database so you need to do nothing else regarding the nova. What make is your bike? Just put the date the bike was manufactured 👍

Dating letter and nova is 2 diffremt forms. Nova is completed via the hmrc website and dating letter you get from your bikes manufacturer

Thanks for the video pal. I followed it right through but then received a rejection letter from DVLA stated I didn't include a original copy of a non-UK registration certificate or export certificate, do you know a way round this as I don't have either or know how to get hold of them?

I am having a problem with the nova, i have watched you tube videos on how to fill the forms out but there seems to be 2 more questions that have been added. 1, are you importing vehicles from the republic of Ireland into gb using a delayed declaration. 2, are you importing vehicles from the eu into northern Ireland. I have marked both down as no and its not letting go any further with the application. Im probably being thick but i cant get my head round it. What should i mark in these boxes. Hi you MUST answer yes to atleast 1 of those questions. If you are in the UK then the question is irrelevant to you so it doesn't matter which 1 you say yes too, it's only since we left the EU. Questions irrelevant to us 👍 just continue

You'll get a reply between 2 and 4 days requesting a pic of your dating letter and purchase recipt. Jist send them it via email 👍 they will they email you back to say its all been accepted ans you can now go ahead and register your bike with the dvla 👍👍nothing more needs to be done with nova

I’m going for a full mot tho ie have all lights except main beam/flash as it’s not working atm but I’m not sure he’s gonna worry as finally found a friendly mot man, lol turns out I was going tires on a car owned by someone who does bike mots very locally to me lol and I’ve got about 3/4mm play in my rear bushes but he said he’d have a look first and if not he’d miss it lol gonna leave him a pinky as I got a few things I’d like him to half see🤣

Does the certificate of newness or invoice tell you what CC the bike is, really want to get a 170 but say it’s a 125

Yes the certificate of newness tells you the bikes vin, engine number, engine capacity in CC, where the bike was made and date of when it was made. The only way for you to register a bike higher than a 125 is to use the numbers off a 125 bike but you will struggle to get a mot like that or you'll have to do a full bike licence

No mate you need to have an mot before you send all the paperwork off to the dvla. You need to send the mot certificate off to the dvla with all your other paperwork. Mine is all done now and insured

Make sure you have the following.... certificate of newness, mot certificate, proof of purchase of the bike (recipt), postal order for the v5 which is £55 and £20 for tax if if its a 125, a copy of your driving licence, v55/5 forms, house hold utility bill and you need to be accepted by nova to proove tax was payed on the bike when it was imported into the UK. If you don't have all these forms then your application will get rejected and you'll have to send all your paperwork back off and wait up to 6 weeks again

Hi mate, thank you. Yes thats the certificate of newness. It should have which factory the bike was made in Japan, date it was made, imported, your vin and engine numbers also should be on therr as you wil need the numbers from your certificate of newness for your 1st registration mot. Without the numbers you won't be able to get an mot mate. Once your nova application has been accepted and they have confirmed the tax was payed on the bike then your bike will be added to the datebase and that means the bikes been nova approved. Once you've done all this your 70% of the way there. You'll need £55 registration fee and whatever a 450 is for the tax bracket as a postal order which I've been told for a 450 is quite expensive but you can check this on the dvla website mate. You can call the HMRC to see how they are getting on with your application. It will proberbly already be done if you give them a call and find out mate. You will also need to send off a recipt from who you bought the bike from as a 'proof of purchase' recipt. Also you'll need to send a house hold utility bill and a copy of your driving licence. Once you have sent it all off you should receive your logbook back in 2-4 weeks. I got mine back within 2 weeks and that was slap bang in the middle of lockdown mate so it waa fairly quick

@@johnstevenson1371 the nova application is usually streight away. You need to call up the hmrc and see if your bikes been passed as tax payed and weather its been added to the system or not. I did my nova and literally within a few hours it was accepted. Yes, after you've got your certificate of newness then next step is the mot. You must provide the numbers from your certificate of newness for 1st mot mate

Hi mate, so my application has been with the DVLA for around 3 weeks. I call up today for an update, a grumpy advisor says my app has been rejected as my MOT in the pack has expired. However this is simply not true as it expires in 2023 (I have a pic of the original before sending it off). He said he couldn’t do anything and they are sending it back. Have you ever experienced this? I’m calling up again now to speak to someone else, absolutely furious! Cheers

You need to send all paperwork off together. Now you've got your certificate of newness you can get it mot'd using the numbers from your certificate of newness. Once you have your mot certificate back you need to get nova approved to prove tax was payed on the vehicle when it was imported into the country and once thats approved it will get added onto the datebase. Once you have that back and your mot you need to get a postal order for your V5 which is £55 and a postal order for your years tax. You also need a proof of purchase recipt from the person you bought the bike from (I just wrote one out myself). A photo copy of your drivers licence and a recent utility bill for example council tax . Make sure you put in question 64 i think it is that the vehicle is for enduro use when it asks you why the vehicle is exempt from type approval. Send all that off and you'll be waiting 3 weeks ish for your v5. If you struggle with it all and want to talk on the phone ile send you my number and ile talk you through it all mate

Yes, you can road legal a 125 2 stroke at 17 but it is more HP than the law allows but it's still classed as a 125cc bike which you can ride on a CBT at 17 yrs old 👍

Depends how fast you gather everything you need paperwork wise and mot, nova, certificate of newness etc. Honda take 6 weeks to send certificate of newness out which you'll need for your 1st mot but kawasaki only take a couple days. You send your paperwork to the dvla and I've just had logbook back for a kx125 I've registered which only took 3.5 weeks. But I've had some logbooks take 6 weeks

Do you have to get insurance and send off the insurance certificate along with the V5/55 form ? Thanks 😊

No mate, you don't need insurance to register your bike. Just send all the paperwork off and wait for your logbook. Insure your bike when you want 👍 have a look at my latest video on how to register a bike for a better view of things 👍

@@motomash6143 yeah filled it all out did everything exactly everything as you’ve said in the video 😁👌🏼 and sent them the V5/55 form , original date of certificate newness , original mot certificate , a phot copy of proof of the my email from nova database showing the number saying it’s now ok to continue with dvla , also photo copy of my driving license and original paperwork for proof of address cost me £100 cheque for £55 for log book plus £45 years tax

My bike has a chassis number but the engine number is blank. Must have had new cases since new. What do I do???

Therr is nothing you can do. You MUST have both engine and frame numbers to register a bike

@@manofknowledge1000 you need viable frame and engine numbers in order to get the bike mot'd. It's also illegal to use the engine number from another bike. You MUST have both engine and frame numbers in order to make your bike road legal. It is really as simple as that mate

@@motomash6143 Yes I see that but there must be a way to get the original engine number from the manufacturer by providing them with the vin. The motor has been fully rebuilt new cases ect this has to be extremely common for people building or road registering all types of vehicles. I will phone the deal on Tuesday to get their advice and have emailed Kawasaki also. Cheers 👍👍

Your dating letter do you mean? Certificate of newness? You need to geg that from suzuki which i think suzuki charge £90. Only form you need to print it v55/5 from dvla site

Hi mate, I registered this honda cr125 with the dvla using this process on the video and that is the only way you can get a logbook/make your bike road legal. Ive also just registered my kawasaki kx125. It's quite complicated to register a bike but I've done it that many times now I can do it easy. @@tomosmalek1271 you are missing loads of paperwork mate, it's alot more complex than that. How can you give your logbook to the mot guy when you are registering the bike to get a logbook?? It's impossible mate. I only know how to register bikes with certificate of newness, best thjng to do is call up your bike manufacturer and get a certificate of newness. Be much easier and you'll get an age related plate. There arr plenty of videos on explaining how to register your bike on a Q plate mate. Okay, I'm about to make another video explaining how to register your bike, ile break it down so it's easier to understand mate 👍 ive used this process many times and always been successfull. Have you filled out the v55/5 out correctly and put in the type approval part 'exempt enduro'? what bike is it you have?

Yes mate what they are wanting is a certificate of conformity which confirms the year of the bike and where it was made and when. You need to contact KTM directly and tell them you want to buy a certificate of conformity. You will need the numbers off this certificate for to get your bike mot'd for the 1st time 👍

Alright mate. What bike you got bud Make? @@EthanSmith-ol3yn no, for your mot all you need is your dating letter. You'll then be able to tick 2 things off your list dating letter and mot cert. You'll also need to print v55/5 off from dvla website, I have another video showing you how to fill that out. You'll also need to complete nova via the hmrc website which You'll need your dating letter and purchase recipt to complete. You'll need a copy of a household bill in your name as proof you are you. 2x postal orders 1 for £55 for your reg fee and 1 for £22 for 1 years tax if its a 125cc. Once you have all of this you can send it all to the dvla Swansea and wait 4-6 weeks for your logbook providing you've completed everything correctly

Hi I just emailed ktm for my conformity form and nova , just watched how u filled out form , where u left out date of registration is that the day your sending form out or the day the bike manufacturer registered

You can get your mot done at any motorcycle testing station but make sure you have a horn, a spedometer, numberplate holder and road legal E stamped tyres for day time mot or it will fail

When you come to insure it you must have proof you have a spedometer or the insurance comany won't insure you. Also your insurer will only cover you for 3rd party only. They won't cover if it gets stolen with it being kick start only . No insurance company's do

And if you are mot'ing a bike for the first time you must have your certificate of newness to hand

Can the mot not be done after applying for the v55/ receiving log book ?

No you need to send mot certificate with all your other paperwork in order to recieve a logbook from fvla

Nova is on the HMRC website which is a declaration which you have to fill out to prove the tax was payed on the machine when it was imported into your country. You will need a dating certificate and purchase recipt to complete NOVA

@@motomash6143 yeah today sent them an email with my engine and frame numbers and they says they don’t match so I can’t get the paper work for it so can I still get the bike MOT with out the bit of paper??

Just looked at them forms and thought ffs what’s all the conformity bullocks…. Exempt enduro…. Sweet 😂 And the local bike shop told me they don’t road test the bikes so as long as it has road tyres, a horn and speedo on it will pass the mot…

Can I register a 125 as a 50cc

Yeah but it's illegal and if you get caught you'll loose your licence and bike and you must know a dodgy mot tester to do yhe mot for you and if the dvla ask to assess the bike, which sometimes they do ask... you'll be screwed . Why would you want to register a 125 as a 50? You can ride 125 and 50 on cbt
