How to Recover Gold with A/P Acid peroxide method for gold fingers and gold plated boards easily.

WARNING!!! This must be done outdoors or under a fume hood! Acids are dangerous! There are warnigs throughout the video, please heed them! This project was only in my garage for about 20 minutes for filming purposes! Gold recovery from gold fingers and gold plated boards using the A/P method or Acid peroxide is in my opinion the best way to get started in gold recovery. If done safely, this is a very fun hobby! Using Muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide, you can dissolve the copper and nickel etching that holds the gold foils to most boards. Make sure the boards are free of other materials first though!

    I used this method and have recovered quite a bit of gold. I use a candle warmer to speed up the process. Cleaning it up has been time consuming because most of the gold flakes like to float at the top. I recommend let it settle before pouring it out. Great video and thank you for the directions..

    Moose you're my hero! Seriously, you break it down so anyone can understand the process & have answered many questions I have had through your videos. Thanks and keep up the good work. You truly are performing a public service here, so many others would have to of found this out through trial & error, spilling acid, burning themselves & being involved in dangerous processes and you have saved me at least from a lot of that type of grief. Thanks again Mr. Moose, you're the greatest!

    To the best of my knowledge, most gold recovery operations do not use AG to recover the foils from fingers. There is the possibility of ending up with more base metals than otherwise. Processing with A/P is also a whole lot cheaper as well. And safer lol!! Thanks for watching!

    hi and thanks for watching. This is both! It can be a fairly inexpensive hobby, and it can be a decent money maker. I do this as a hobby. To make good money you would need a large volume of material to process, and i do mean large. I typically only run these processes twice a year when i have enough material to get a nice ingot at the end. You can get yourself set up to process a lot of differnt types of gold scrap for less than $150 and to break even would only need 3 grams of gold.

    Issue #1, you never add water to acid, never ever. Peroxide is mostly water. Adding water to acid can cause explosions due to sudden heat generation. Always add the peroxide first, then slowly add the acid. It does not matter if you know the strength of the acid you are using. Always SAFETY First!!! This may not happen with the dilute concentrations you are using here, but why even take a risk that you could cause fires and or explosions if the acid you bought happened to be a lot stronger by accident of the manufacturer. This I remember from 9th-grade Chemistry taught by Mr. McClure ;)

  • @StevenHanover

    My great grandfather name was Jasper McClure. Not sure who he was maybe different guy. Anyway, is it possible to dissolve a whole bag of pennies and then collect the copper somehow. I hear 1987 or older pennies every 1000 of them is worth 300 dollar in value? Smelting the final stage...?

  • @buggsy5

    @buggsy5

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@StevenHanover Yes, you could dissolve the pennies in acid and the selectively precipitate the copper. But the chemicals would cost more than the total amount that you could get for the copper. It was never true that US pennies were worth that much. At today's copper spot price, the 1983 and before pennies have a melt value of about $0.02 - in other words, double face value. So 1000 pennies would have a melt value of roughly $20.00. That is why there are so many copper pennies still in circulation, it just doesn't pay to melt them down as scrap.

    If you leave solder in there, you change the outcome of the solution. A nasty gel can form trapping fold foils making it MUCH more difficult to recover. I find that those piece are typically very thin and easy to cut with a pair of scissors. I just cut out the large gold parts. Now also remember that those pieces are most likely flash plated, so the gold there is going to be EXTREMELY thin. Thanks!

    I thin kthat reading Hoke is possibly the most helpful thing you can do to help establish a strong base knowledge for gold recovery. As for the watch pieces that are magnetic, put it is HCL and put the HCL pyrex on a hot plate until the temp is just under boiling. Depending on how much base metal there is this could take a few hours.

  • @moosescrapper5928

    @moosescrapper5928

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Michael Murphy Hi and thanks for watching. Your question is a little confusing to me. You would not add bleach to AP, it is not that same as adding bleach to HCL. It also makes a difference what type of CPU's you are referring to. Ceramic pins do not need to have the pins removed, they can be processed whole (broken into pieces) with Aqua regia. The green CPU's will need to have the pins removed first. THe pins get boiled in HCL and the rest of the board soaks in AP. Also, which solution are you wanting to know how long it can stand? I have the same bucket of AP that I have had for almost 2 years now still working and the bottle of Auric chloride I have held for about 6 months at a time.

    Can gold be removed from plated jewelry in the same batch as computer fingers using hydrochloric (muriatic) acid and hydrogen peroxide?

    Hey, everyone makes mistakes. The worst mistake is not being able to admit you made one and learn from it. Thanks for watching!

    Hey moose scrapper, how do you neutralise chemicals after they arent needed, i see you recycle the AP solution, but is baking soda sufficient to neutralise so its safe for the drain?

    Are you referring to the tektronix osciliscope modules? I have a couple of the dual trace amplifiers that are burnt and the insides do look like they have lots of gold. I think thats a good guess for items that are lab related or need to have extreme accuracy like aviation boards etc. When in doubt, test it out!
