What do you do when the air cylinder leaks and wont release the fmfd?

The minimum repair would be to install a 994346 seal kit. If the clutch pack itself is leaking, a super kit is required. Please verify the repair kit to the clutch part number.

How much play or wobble is acceptable on the fan itself?

Hi there! Great question. We recommend ... First, complete a check of the fan and fan clutch while the truck is off. 1. Inspect the fan clutch both engaged and disengaged. There should be no wobble. A wobble would indicate that the fan drive needs to be inspected, repaired, or replaced. 2. Inspect the fan for cracks & dirt/debris build up. Clean off dirt/debris build up. Replace any fan that has a crack. If the inspection checks out, view the fan while the truck is running. It is normal to see some variation from fan blade to fan blade that causes the illusion of a wobble. This is acceptable, as all fan blades and fan clutch components are balanced during manufacturing. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us at info@hortonww.com. Thanks again for asking!

What about when the center bolt is galvanized? Our shop cannot get your Hortons apart. Use Kit Masters instead.

Agreed. Im doing one right now and the center bolt is not coming off. I tried everything. Even tried hitting it with an impact. Won't budge. I'm throwing the entire thing away and getting a master kit instead.

I just rebuilt one last night. Same problem. Bolt would not come off! Tried heating it, impact gun, penetrating oil and nothing. Eventually we found the video on line that shows you can cut it off! Use a 2.75 hole saw and just cut around the bolt. Once you cut it off, you can get access to the hex bolts holding the clutch pack on. Be careful to use c clamps to hold that clutch pack together as you remove the hex bolts. Once hex bolts are all removed, you loose the C clamps slowly and it will come apart. Once that’s out, you put air to it and the rest of the guts will push up. If you cut that center bolt section to remove the cover , you can’t use a caging nut. That’s the problem we found out. I’m not sure what kinda lock tight the factory used on that bolt but it is locked on forever. FACT! We got ours so hot it was to the the point of what we thought might be melting. Still didn’t budge. The impact eventually broke the threads and we couldn’t insert the t55 in the hole any more. Save yourself time and stress and just cut it off from the start. Also be aware this is a 800$ core charge!!!! So if you attempt to take it apart and can’t but damage it in the process, the dealers will not allow you to use it as a core!!!!! So your fan clutch just cost another 800$ !!! My rebuild kit was 400$ thru TRP. A fan clutch cost 1300! Thru dealer and that’s after the 800$ core. Same fan clutch quote thru fleet pride was 850$ plus 100$ shipping and 800$ core also thru them. I hope this helps someone. It’s a pain to rebuild but worth the savings. No one had one on the west coast so I was forced to rebuild mine.

Hi M! Thanks for reaching out. You are correct; when you factor in repair time and cost -- especially if you're using a reman -- assemblies can definitely provide more bang for the buck. Here's another video on how to perform a drop-in replacement for the same clutch we rebuilt above: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIl2sa1tnJOylqg.html Let us know if you have any other questions!
