    Hey I just want to thank you for his video. I'm from the uk and was totally pissed when my car moulding was falling apart last week. My local garage asked for £50.00 to fix it, around $85.00. Went on KZread and you where the first video that came up. I followed you step by step and my car looks perfect again. Ordered the goo gone on eBay! Thank you again for this great video! Sarah X

    Thank you for the video. I removed and reinstalled my moldings over the last two days inside the garage when it was below freezing outside. The new molding double sided tape instructions called for 65F degrees or higher. I used an electric heater with built in fan sitting on top of a box to loosen the molding and warm up the doors to meet the 65F minimum temperature.

    Thank you! You seem like a perfectionist! Like the way you put on the masking tape first. Smart idea to give you a guide for realigning straight. Good job

    I got mine on Ebay. It was the 1/2" wide stuff. You need roughly 6 feet of tape per molding. I bought a 30 ft roll. Just do a search for molding tape.

    It comes in many sizes and thicknesses. I can't remember the size exactly, but it was around 1/8" thick and 1/2" wide.

    Thank you for making this video! I had began the process of replacing a piece of molding trim on my Subaru and came to the part where I needed to remove the old tape and tape residue from the trim strip as well as the car door. I wasn't sure how to best go about this part, but I figured "goo gone" would be helpful. Glad I watched this video to get the tips about using automotive grade "goo gone" as well as using the hair dryer and plastic scraping tool to remove the bits of old stubborn tape!

    Make sure to take the time to put the tape down before you start working. I didn't do this. Now, I have some scratches and "fog" about a half inch above and below the molding. Also, be sure your molding is a clean as you can possibly get it. Before discovering the 3M tape, I tried to use silicone glue to adhere the molding. The residue left from the glue prevents the 3M tape from sticking. 3M makes a product that cleans this residue off (not sure, but it smells like lacquer thinner.)

    I spent 6 hours in two days removing 2007 Broken Drivers door Molding from One of my C.V. P71's.The gov. shop ,used some other type of glue. Goo-gone did nothing.,I used eraser wheel. and 320 Grit wet sanding. What a nasty job.

    The body molding on my 2006 Elantra is in need of repair after a small run in with a fence :) however it doesn't look like yours does. I don't think there was any sticky stuff on it. Only notches that need to slide into place. But i can't completely remove the molding because the front notch is still attached. One end was touching the ground and the front part was attached and the rest could just be swung up to its place. So I'm lost on how to go about this. Any advice?

    hey bro.. were can i buy that tape? and what size is it? cause i have the same car you have and my door moldings are falling out of place...

  • @boochieboy814
    @boochieboy81411 жыл бұрын

    3M molding tape is extremely sticky and strong. I don't see how it couldn't work for you unless you didn't prep your surfaces properly or thoroughly enough...cleaning any waxes or residues before the application. If your car moldings were originally attached with molding tape from the factory, you can be 99% sure it's 3M brand tape.

    Very carefully with a heat gun on the back of the moldings, then holding them straight or clamping them somehow until they cool. It's just plastic, and that tape is also ridiculously strong/sticky.
