If I’ve been walking all day in the hot sun and I come across a puddle drying out on the road, it’s perfectly reasonable to say “hmm.. this puddle was probably bigger before I got here”. If you can measure how fast the puddle is evaporating then you can get a fairly accurate idea of how big the puddle used to be five minutes ago or twenty minutes ago. We dont take limited sources as definitive information, like the example of Ceasars records given. Saying thats definitive is a misunderstanding. Thats claiming something we admit is theory is being claimed somewhere as fact. Historians(ethical ones at least) dont make those claims, religious people do. Usually in this exact context of trying to say limited sources are good enough.

I would say I would not trust any of those books in terms of the complete truth even if the book was written the next day. Look what gets written today that we don't trust as the truth. While I would say it is a point of interest in how soon copies were discovered and the number of early copies discovered, while all of the books that got included in the New Testament in 325a.d. would have been written, other books also written did not get included and were ordered destroyed by the Roman Emperor. Of the books that did make it, Protestants took the liberty of removing some of them. Considering the important message early Christians were trying to sell, it doesn't surprise me that when the concept took off, that there was a demand to create those copies in a short time span. The surprising part, considering the importance of the message, is that Jesus never said "take notes". The stories imply there was no need for the Kingdom of God was coming any day, no time for books. Paul also understood it this way, that the Kingdom was coming any day. Jesus even supposedly said, some of you will not taste death before witnessing the coming of the Kingdom. I don''t know what the actual truth of the matter is and that is sort of the point, there is plenty of room for skepticism, not only about the religion itself, but even internally among other Christians. It appears to be a great mystery for believers and nonbelievers alike.

Ironically, theology could never work if faith was proven while living. I don’t claim to know the reasons for any of this but, life, existence, etc, but I do know that things would be completely different if a god announced themself and showed themself as all powerful. Life would probably be quite boring and predictable, no one using their “free-will”. Been praying for Joe Rogan in my Rosary. And you and yours, Steven. I used to listen to both you and Joe Rogan daily! When I first discovered you, I listened to almost your entire podcast history! I believe we got the Bible, which has the historically reliable documents The Gospels, from the Church, and the Church precedes the New Testament, and through the history of the popes, the Catholic Church can be traced back to Jesus establishing it as His Church, and even before that, when God raised up the people of Israel, that was the community. The Bible was not read in isolation. They would read the Bible with and through the community. And just like as Christians for 2,000 years, we read the Bible with and through the Church, the lens of the interpretation of the Magisterium which is the teaching office of the Church and the motherly role of the Church. And something like praying the Rosary is not something the Magisterium created, it was something people voluntarily started to do, and it eventually put its blessing on it. I believe Jesus is the one mediator, and everything flows through Him. He is the center of all things, and in Him, all things came to be. There is instrumental causality that God loves to use amongst His created universe. The power of intercessory prayer, and the power of the intercession of the saints is about that. Hebrew 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. James 5:16-17 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful. Elijah was a human being like us; yet he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain upon the land. Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the earth produced its fruit. Jesus Christ is the mediator, and our Blessed Mother Mary can lead us to Him. She prays for us on our way to Him. When I refer to Mary as my mother, please know I am not taking away respect due to my one and only God, Lord Jesus Christ. I believe loving people Jesus loves helps us love Him more, so the more I love Mary, the more I love God, and Jesus gave Mary to us as our mother on the Cross. John 19: 26-27 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. Mother Mary, the first Christian with her choice to say "yes" to my one and only God's will, I believe she is the number 1 model for sainthood for both men and women. She did God's will perfectly in every respect from the moment of her conception, listening to every single one of His commands. Her choice to say "yes" Luke 1:38 Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her. to God's will ushered in salvation for the world, and she did so knowing the sacrifices and sufferings that would result from her decision, but, humbly, accepted the privilege of containing the God of the Universe her womb, and then becoming Jesus' most intimate friend, companion, and greatest consolation while on Earth. She was the devil's ultimate humiliation! I believe God is the King of the universe, having all power of the universe, but God chose Our Lady, a humble lowly woman the privilege of crushing the head of the devil. She is not God. She is a saint, but being that she is with Jesus in Heaven, I ask for her intercession to our Lord (and for sake of brevity, I'll say I "pray to Mary"), similar to how I'd ask people pray for me (please do! I'm a broken sinner in need of many prayers), but I trust she is a saint in Heaven so I believe it is helpful to ask for her help, especially being so close to her Son. There is only one God. He is the source of all good. He is Goodness. He is Love! One of my favorite verses to reference to bring to mind the dignity of life- When Mother Mary was pregnant with Jesus, she went on an about eighty mile joyous journey to visit her cousin Saint Elizabeth (patron saint of expectant mothers and pregnant women) in her hour of need, Elizabeth said referencing her tiny child in her womb John the Baptist who was conceived when she was in old age: Luke 1:41-44 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Hope you have a light-filled peaceful joyful week! God bless you and your family.

Comparing Christianity and not even seeing the glaring contrasts with other religions is ignoring the power of Christianity and it's belief system. Rare atheist conservative here. Used to be Catholic. The argument that Ceaser or other historical figures' evidence is older is irrelevant. You have to look and evaluate the "evidence" for just Jesus. The Bible has many demonstrably untrue stories, so how do we know what actually occurred and what didn't? You can't for Jesus. You do not know the authors of the gospels. You don't know if they were "there," you cannot evaluate the source (writers). They were most likely not "there" at least 30 to 60 years later. You know nothing of their motives other than what can be inferred by the text. They were written years after supposed events and they were copying from each other and getting more grandiose every iteration. It's not enemy attestation if it's written by the same source. The source is saying the enemy said it... it isn't a separate source! The story SAYS the tomb was empty... you have no way to prove what was said in the story is true. They sealed the tomb? did they? how do you know??? You can't know if the story is true at all. You do not have any accounts other than the bible and there is no way to evaluate the source. Over 500 people witnessed it? Sounds like the person writing it wants you to believe. Who were the 500? How do we evaluate if they saw what one person said they saw? You cannot. You cannot prove there were 500 witnesses just because the author said it. How many people saw Harry Potter killed by Valdamourt? Is that an argument Harry Potter was real? People on 9/11 died for their god. They could have died because they believed in a false story. The whole story could be false, meaning they didn't die. 12 apostles? 12 signs of the zodiac? You have no way to know what is true. People/writers were around during that time who should have written about Jesus if events had occurred in the way it says in the bible. They are silent about Jesus. There is no contemporary evidence of Jesus. You cannot prove he said or did anything. THE GOD OF THE BIBLE WOULD KNOW THIS! He would know stories 2000 years later would be insufficient evidence for events of the bible. It is telling that a god who would know that he left crappy evidence of his existence, especially one that places so much importance on believing, would do so...

I never heard the claim that the Gospels were written a hundred plus years after Jesus died. They were written by the apostles and their followers within 20 years of Jesus' death and resurrection. Those gospels and many of the other writings by the apostles circulated throughout the Roman Empire for over three centuries. There were forgeries that joined the circulation, confusing the faithful, who turned to the Church to solve this problem. In response, the Church compiled a list of books, that we now recognize as the New Testament, in the year 382, in the Council of Rome, under Pope Demasus, the 36th successor of Peter the Apostle, who was appointed by Christ to lead his Church (Matthew 16:18 & 19).

Humanity is guaranteed to suffer. I met God through extreme suffering. I spent my entire life with your thought process. Was an Atheist my entire life. Suffocating to death on your own blood and vomit after being beaten within an inch of your life will change that thought process pretty quick. When you are watching your entire life play out like a movie. Feel all the pain and suffering you caused others emotionally and physically through the eyes of the people you did it to. Are shown your unborn child 3 years before you had met the woman you would have your child with. Float above your body and stare down at your own face from an aerial view as you watch the paramedics rushing to bring you back to life. As an all knowing, all loving, illuminated figure that called himself " I AM" answers all your questions and shows you insurmountable love so intense and immense it wraps around you like a warm blanket of complete bliss. As if you are being cradled in your mother's arms as a newborn baby, you'll change your mind pretty quick. But until you die and are brought back to life like I was, you will have to continue to think that way or actually look for the truth. I was finally home, and I was forced to come back to have people that have no idea what they are talking about try to tell me that God doesn't exist when I know for a fact, they couldn't be further from the truth. They are the most wrong they have ever been in their life; about the most important thing they could possibly be wrong about. This, I will 100% guarantee and promise and will gladly and willingly die on this hill.

If you and your friends witness miracles over 3 years of following someone around and then watch Him be executed and put into a tomb under Roman guard and then see the tomb empty and spend 40 more days with Him and 500 more people before he ascends to heaven...you would have a hard time arguing against His divinity. Stuart Knechtle argues: the Resurection is based on Eye Witnesses. Eye Witnesses who would NEVER recant that they saw Jesus resurected; they were executed, because they would never recant: Jesus was Resurected. Since we can prove Jesus was Resurected, we have proven the argument of Divinity, more than you have to counter it. You don't want to accept he was Divine, so you choose to piss on the argument. That's YOUR logical fallacy, not our's. To be succinct, I don't care what you believe. I don't have to carry your sins to the pearly gate, that's your job. I have my own to carry. We are commanded to Share The Good News, once you've heard that Good News, Jesus Story and his role in our lives, then it's up to you. Jesus will knock on the door to your heart, and you choose to open that door or not. He gives you the choice; you are in control of this relationship. Jesus offers something no other religion does: assurances that we will Join Him, after we die, if we accept his divinity and follow his behavior modifications. Jesus accepts us, with all our warts and sins and mistakes and vitriol. He loves us, DESPITE all of our mistakes. He will forgive us those mistakes and sins and horrible things, if we admit we did horrible things and work to never do them, again. Do you hear the 'catch'? We have to WORK at never sinning, again; Jesus never said we must have no sin, for him to Forgive Us and Love us. We have to work at following his example.
