The ending segment on why we read resonated with me the most. Not too long ago, I became overwhelmed looking at all the books on my shelves I have left to read. I felt like I had to get through as many of them as possible so I could figure out which ones I wanted to donate/give away, because I was told I have too many (I really don't have much compared to other Booktubers). Then I realized, if I approach reading that way, it becomes a chore. It takes the fun out of it. When we pressure ourselves to rush through books (which is pretty common on Booktube), how much can we have a full experience from each one? I've come to realize the books that are on my shelves are not there for me to run through them, but to get a unique reading experience from each. Now, I approach reading pretty much the same way you do. I read what I want when I feel like it, and it feels good again! Also, starting a book in a library or bookstore and then taking it home and finishing it truly is one of my greatest joys in this life. It's all about getting swept away in the details of a good book! 😊

Oh dear. I once read 75 books in one year as a challenge, and it wasn't fun; I just kept forcing myself to hurry up so I could get to the next book in order to reach my goal. I took a test to see how fast I read. The average is about 200-250 words per minute. I read 140. Pretty slow! And that is not counting the time it takes when I stop to annotate, to reread something that sounded beautiful, or when I put the book down to look something up (a word I don't know, or something interesting I want to research further). If I do a challenge again, I am going to aim lower, maybe 45. I feel like the same way about electronic books, I feel like I don't actually have them. I also like the tactile experience of turning the pages, making notes. On top of that, my attention span on a screen is not great. Thank you for the tips! I live two blocks from my library so I use it a lot. I did not know you could recommend a book for them to purchase. I look forward to your video on DNFing.

Okay now I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that takes my time to read and mull over certain sections of a book. Libby does have a large audiobook selection and I think it works in conjunction with Overdrive because I can see the books that I checked out or have on hold in Overdrive on Libby. Also, Hoopla is another app that my library uses, and while it does not have a large selection, their books usually aren’t on hold because it’s not a popular app.

I've been a bibliophile since I was in the womb...my Mama put the love of books and reading in me. Books are my life! Always HAVE been, always WILL be. I just find it to be so baffling and a bit scary that my brain has changed so much that reading is harder now. Life happened. I have more responsibilities (3 B's...Babies, Boyfriend, Bills), and I'm still learning how to operate WITH OTHERS (my family) rather than my happy, free, solo and single self who read ENDLESSLY. I'm evolving (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc) AND I'm still trying to carve out time slots for my everyday life overall. Also...as far as light disturbing sleep...blue light...would be emitted from device screens so that doesn't help much either (unless maybe you have the Blue Light Filter feature on your device).

Hi Amerie! From one January 12th Capricorn to another, I just wanted to say I've been a fan since your first album. I still enjoy your music, but most importantly, congratulations bringing your son into the world and starting your family. Anyways, I just wanted to point out, while watching your insightful video, that I'm currently battling OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). It is one of the most horrible things anyone can suffer from. And since I've had this mental condition I haven't been able to focus on anything within the past couple of years, including reading books (which has been my lifelong favorite past time). I also experience similar challenges when I'm reading: such as re-reading a sentence several times, and thinking about grasping the words instead of just enjoying the content. For me it has also been about quality over quantity but with OCD it is even worse, because I'm constantly having unwanted thoughts to go back and read the same sentences over and over and over until I'm fed up with reading altogether. I will definitely use this video as one of many helpful tools.

Hi 👋🏽 Amerie♥️ So happy to see you uploading... your top knot bun is super cute 🥰 👀 Ok but how the Universe 💫 knew that I was just about to do my new summer book reading log spread in my BuJo? I set up to read 17 books started on June 21 to Sep. 21 I’ve been reading in the early morning at like 5:30/6AM because the sun ☀️ rise here in my city at that time. I got back into my public library 📚 and already have 5 books from there ....Read 3 so far. I chose 17 bc it’s my Lucky 🍀 number for 2019. As for iBooks I am using Webtoon app to read graphic fiction novels or comics. As for Audio reading I use Naver AudioClip app...(obviously for my korean language learning skills) which works great. Many choices are free as a gift or decent prices. 🤓 I have to follow your GoodReads page.

It's important to express that you know the the Solitude of reading and that on the privacy of reading is very much important you know you have to have a very solemn environment and in that environment you should be able to express you know different forms of emotion when you're reading a certain subjects of a certain parts of the book and then you should be able to record yourself while you're reading it to give dictation to whatever it is that seems important maybe a word that you stumble upon you know that you look up and the dictionary you find different calibrations or associations of ideas that will help you to continue reading until your book is complete and I also think the educational books are good bike as far as science books history books biographies mathematic books and English books like if you know just knowing the English language is a very good aspect of the interpretation of knowing how you speak or how you are as a as a speaker or teacher

2019 I read 4 books. I like thinking and feelings my books. I'm still excited I read, Having my say. Ok so I'll try to read at least 8 books in 2020. I'm a writer so I do write more. I will start reading a book in Jan. I'll choose one ASAP! 50 books...,I can't promise but it's a good number.

Thanks for the tips! I’ve been slacking on my reading MAJORLY these past couple years (new job, fast lifestyle, and college). I’m taking summer classes (over next week), and I can’t wait to read a good book! I picked up that you have writing deadlines. Is there a book in the works? 👀👀 You’re so down to earth. Hope your baby is doing okay.

I've read 6 books this year so far, and I'm embarrassed by it as I see myself as a reader and so do those around me, and yet... I'm not reading. I've made some progress in the last month by watching less TV/Videos/Movies. I have a tendency to binge watch, especially when I'm lonely or bored, and could just sit all night watching TV which is such an EASY choice, but I don't think it's a particularly enlightening or useful activity, especially as compared to reading. When I watch TV less, I read more, so I'm hoping by avoiding binge-watching (which isn't good for me anyways), I'll be able to read more. That being said, I bet there's a great number of people who have read NO books this year and I don't plan to, so I try to be easy on myself.

I am committed to reading my book collection. I have about 50 books unread. I used to read a lot and going to start again. Social media has become so Toxic so I’m Deleting FB and IG and replacing with reading. Thank you.

Ye I don’t annotate. I’m just a slow reader 😹 but I re-read books to see foreshadowing and shit like that.
