Thank you ! I finally understood that I need I had applied more torque to that small notch at the end of shaft.
Louder is better, just to make sure everybody knows you're here :D
When will you (Scribe) change the hub system on the wheels, so I can order some? Too much hassle to quieten and too loud to own!

Solution: don't coast 😂
For maintenance, I also disassembled my gravel hub and filled it well with grease. This was necessary because I drove it across streams several times recently. So it became almost completely silent, which I regret a little. So if anyone is worried about for the loudness, feel free to buy it.
Thanks for the very helpful video. Doing just as described has quietened them down to a level I can live with. Don’t get me wrong, I love most noisy freehubs, but these are loud in an unpleasant way. Sorry Scribe, just being honest.

Me, I want to ride like a ninja.
Came on here hoping to find exactly this. Thank you! Easy to understand and I will be greasing the noise out of my free hub as soon as I can!
I have the Silt AM 29's which have same/similar hubs to these. Bought replacement bearings and the ratchet tool but could do with a full video of the replacement procedure. Is this available anywhere?
Allan - on the gravel hub, how do you removal the axel?
Since the MV1 grease is sold out, Will the DumondTech freehub grease work just as well? I already have some on hand.
Sweet as! I'm removing the polymer dampener for more noise!

Is there any way to remove the freehub axle without the ratchet tool? I can't find it anywhere and it's sold out on your online store
Is there another tool I can buy that is compatible with this ratchet plate, say from Park Tool or the like with 4 prongs? I ask because I just ordered these wheels yesterday, with the grease, but forgot to order the tool just in case I don't like the sound.
Love my rims by far the worst element ( for me) is the noise.
Because at age 50 I deserve to relive my ASBO days!
Could you give me an idea of how much torque I'll need to remove the ratchet? I don't have a vice to do this job but I'm putting a scarily large amount of force through a spanner to try to loosen it off and it's not moving at all. I stopped as I was worried I'd misunderstood something (I triple checked the direction). I appreciate it might be tight but your video didn't show much of a battle :)

A lot - just did it today. spokes creaked a bit whilst doing it. I definitely wouldn't have been able to get it off without a vice and using the rim for leverage.
The noise is a horror show, not only anti socially loud ( I carry my bike out of the garden on the morning now) but just not a nice noise. I've had other noisy hubs, these are in another league. Seem to be pretty draggy too.

hubs are definitely draggy.
My, out of the box gravel wheels, are so loud I can't ride them as is. MUCH louder than my I9s (known for their sound) or my DT Swiss 240s or 350s. Really disappointing to have to wrench on a set of brand new wheels....
Are the hubs quieter as standard now? Mine don't seem to be that loud
@ScribeCycling
Жыл бұрын
Hi Ben - Mechanically, nothing has changed. However, they are assembled by hand and grease is applied manually; Thus the amount and application can vary. Should you want the hubs louder, use lighter grease or less of it. Should you need any further help; Please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Never come across the ratchet tool before, where do you get it from?
@thecycleway

if it helps, I found just by applying grease to the ratchet teeth substantially reduced the noise, so there was no need to remove the ratchet. But to answer your question, the tool is available from the Scribe online shop.

I'm also considering selling mine. It's a good bike but it's not getting used because of the wheels. I've just put the stock Mavics on today adding quite a bit of weight.
Do you have any plan to just change that freehub system? I'm really intrested in the gravel set, but not with that noise...
@ScribeCycling

The ratchet system we utilise has proven to be incredibly reliable and we don't intend to change anytime soon. The sound is not as loud as how it is portrayed in the video based on the acoustics in the location where filmed. It's really no louder than any other ratchet-driven hub on the market; In fact, quieter than most with the inclusion of our dampening polymer and the option to add grease mutes the tone significantly.

@@ScribeCycling Thanks for the reply. I had the occasion to hear it and I found it very noisy, compared to everything else I heard around. Unfortunately I don't see the reason for it, when it is perfectly possible to manifacture something a lot quieter...I personally don't think it is less noisy than other hubs. And this unfortunately is the only reason I would not buy your otherwise perfect set.
Where can I buy the ratchet ring removal tool??
@ScribeCycling
Жыл бұрын
Hi Ricardo. The tool can be bought on our online store under accessories; You'll see it listed as "Ratchet Tool"
I thought about buying your Elan 38 wheels...great price and weight, but consistently folks have complained about the freehub noise. If you know it is an issue, why don't you put enough grease on in the first place or better yet design freehubs that aren't so noisy?
@ScribeCycling
6 ай бұрын
Hi Jamie; We get very few complaints compared to the number of wheels sold. The noise is not unlike any other ratchet drive hub on the market, quieter than a lot of other hubs out there actually. At our price point the wheels often come as an upgrade to most riders and the hub feedback does come as a bit of a surprise over cheaper worn-out pawl's systems that they might be used to. We don't consider the noise to be an issue but we do have features like a polymer disc in the assembly to dampen the tone. Also, the ratchet configuration on the Elan has 54t, the finer toothed profile offering a quieter sounding "buzz" The addition of grease makes a significant difference and we did start to add a little more, and guess what? We then started getting complaints they were too quiet. It's very hard to win on the internet Jamie, but we do listen and you'll be glad to know that the very vast majority of our customers are extremely happy. Please drop us an email, we'd be happy to chat further :)

@@ScribeCycling You're not considering the avoidance or opportunity costs. I would like to order your wheels but based on everything I've seen/heard, I won't. The review sites I looked at mentioned the extreme loudness of your hubs. So, before this comment, I move on to a different brand and you have no idea you've lost a customer. Based on this video being produced alone, there are many more consumers avoiding your brand for the same reason.
Why isn’t grease applied initially when manufactured???
