How to QUICKLY repair the broken auto return on a Technics turntable

Музыка

This is an easy fix! If the auto return on your Technics turntable is no longer working, there is a chance you need to replace a broken gear which is accessible from the top of the unit and can be ordered on eBay.
Order the plastic gear from eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/225345681812

If the auto return on your Technics turntable isn't working, check and see if your model has this common issue with a cracked gear. If so, this is an easy fix!

Nice one! About 15 years ago, I was given a Technics SL-23 that didn't keep proper speed. I thought it would be a bad old belt, but it turned out to be a little bit more complicated. The caps on the timing PCB went bad, so I had to replace those. Then, it still didn't work properly and found out the timing chip was bad too because of the bad caps. Luckily I was able to find a new replacement after searching for a long time. But it wasn't working properly still, it kept the right speed only temporarily, but started fluctuating speed from time to time. Cleaned the trimmer pots on the timing PCB and finally it worked properly. It was a project that took over a year to finish and back then I was 12 years old, so it seemed like a very, very long time! It's how I learned the basics of electronics and also learned soldering. Kids can learn a lot when they're obsessed with things...

Nice! As a DIYer myself, it is always satisfying when you apply a fix and it works.

Agreed! I always think, if I can fix this, someone else can, so I try to throw these little videos together that folks can access later on!

Great video. Would this gear be resonsible for a tone arm on technics sl d210 keep returning to rest and not playing the record? Thanks in advance.

Possibly, although I've yet to work on a D210 to know 100% for sure. Can you manually set the tonearm down to play?

What should I search for on ebay? I know I want to include the model number. But what is the actual piece called? "Auto return gear" or something?

I have the same problem with a Goodmans gsp-308. The nylon gear is identically split but I cannot find a replacement. Who supplied the new gear?

I wish I could have figured out exactly where you bought your gear. I could only find two choices. One was from the UK and the other one came in an envelope with no directions or the tool you had to press it down

Hrmm didnt work for me. I applied a little pressure, little more, little more and crunch. Not sure if I broke something. Everything appears intact. Ill order another one. This table will be a manual for now.

Oh it did say to apply some superglue if it's too loose. That will likely be my problem.
