  • @turdshack4228

    @turdshack4228

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@kylemguile9980 if you are rev matching and you rev match it perfectly, which just comes with practice driving manual, then you’re fine to dump the clutch. If you are in the 3rd gear downshifting to second and you push the clutch in and rev it perfectly to the exact amount of RPM’s you’re supposed to be at in 2nd gear and you dump the clutch while doing it (but the key is, that ur RPM’s are perfect) it will have virtually no wear on your clutch. Having the RPM’s perfectly matched for whatever gear you’re going into means you can always dump the clutch. For example I drive a manual 2004 350z and I’ll be driving behind some slow people and once there is an opening to get past them I’ll be doing about 45 mph and then I’ll downshift to 3rd then 2nd and when I reach 2nd gear at 45 mph in my car, this is when I plan to take off flying past them. So I put the clutch in, put it in 2nd, rev it up to whatever feels right (about 5,000 rpm’s for me) and then dump the clutch and it should feel very smooth and of course as you dump the clutch give it gas and from daily driving my car everyday for 5 months, by know I’ve got this down like a pro and I make it look easy. All it takes is practice. When I downshift at 45 mph into 2nd gear (which is a perfect and fun little pull to do for my car), and I nail it PERFECTLY, it is so satisfying and I promise, at least for me, it is smoother than most automatics downshifting because you got a clutch that you can work with and become really good at.

  • @turdshack4228

    @turdshack4228

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@kylemguile9980 also btw sorry I never explicitly answered your question but no it doesn’t matter what gears you dump your clutch at except if you’re leaving first gear then that’s bad. You can dump the clutch at gear 2 or above without putting any extra strain on your clutch as long as the RPM’s are perfect and smooth. Just rev up the RPM’s exactly where they should be and then quickly dump the clutch and it shouldn’t matter. The clutch is made so that you can change gears relatively smoothly even if your RPM’s aren’t perfect. If your RPM’s are perfect then you can dump the clutch though and master it and don’t even need to feather it at high speeds and racing. Sorry for how long it is but I wanted to be precise because I had the same questions before I got my car and I was always pretty unsure of how a manual transmission worked despite my love for cars. Just want to make everything clear and helpful that’s all. Hope this was helpful in some way. Who knows, maybe you already know what I’m talking about by now.

    @@kylemguile9980 Wow that’s awesome. Take care of your clutch and your tires and enjoy the ride. Many automatic drivers say automatic is faster for racing and it is in a straight line but manual is the most fun and manual is way more superior/faster on a windy road/track. I raced my friends automatic 350z on the track and then raced my manual 350z on the track (we have the same mods) but I was running a much better time only because I was able to downshift into high RPM’s for the turns and come out of them in high RPM’s and zooming. I’m sure you already know this but I just wanted to share because you seem cool.

It should feel effortless and fast (and yeah, you definitely have to know your gears without looking).

    The "don't need clutch all the way down" are probably remnants from truck drivers, where you can half-clutch sequential gears 1-5 and 6-10, but need to full clutch from 5th to 6th. Otherwise the fast-clutching you describe is all about the synchromesh, which is how you can shift fast without requiring perfect rpm match for that gear. Your method has nothing to do with technique, it's just the synchromesh preventing you from destroying your gears.

    Power shifting is what truck drivers do ! Applying some throttle before letting clutch out while shifting ! Your flatfoot shifting is actually called speed shifting ! Ask any trucker that's 60 years old ! Shifting names got mixed up decades ago. Simple quick shift is using your wrist in combination with your arm ! Just like drumming !

    For drag racing I slap shift, tap the clutch in to where it releases just a tad, slap the gear in and pop the clutch out. It should be one movement, you shouldn't push the clutch in and sit at all. In, out and while pushing in and out real quick slap the shifter into gear.

    Why are so many being negative about it? Give him a brake, he's just trying to teach newcomers how to shift a bit faster and that power shifting is a terrible idea... His videos are pretty good and entertaining. I bet most of the people complaining, are either horrible at shifting themselves or just don't understand, that this is not meant to be an advanced tutorial. Even if you know how to shift even faster, common sense should tell you, that this video was not meant for you... And I do realise that not everyone is here to learn and some are just bored like me, but that doesn't give you a free pass to bash him for trying to help new enthusiasts (especially since a big part of the car community seems to just bash them and scare them away instead). If newcomers see the way you're acting, they'll just start to think we're a bunch of arrogant assholes and will walk away instead. So just enjoy the video for what it's meant to be, instead of bashing for no reason.

    Awesome advice! Just started driving manual and i've noticed I shift slow af compared to all the autos around me looool Also about the start where you talked about not being able to look at your camera while you drive, you're really better off not doing it. It's a distraction from the road and therefore unsafe - it's like looking at your passenger while driving. It's scary D: I was actually pretty spooked when I saw you doing that whilst you were driving in your other vids lol, but now that I think about it you probably did that while you knew there were no other cars around you. Defensive driving is key :)

    I would say don't move the shifter lightly when racing because it may not slot into the next gear. I've done it a few times even when driving around town where i didn't follow through with the pull from 1st to 2nd and the stick popped into neutral. Always pull firmly and all the way to the end of the throw. However when making a diagonal shift like 2-3 or 4-5 a less forceful motion is ideal to avoid mashing it straight up into a lower gear and money shifting.

    Okay try this one, this is some thing i used in my motor sport days, it does strain things but you get a lot of poke. I first started using this on my group 4 mk1 escort and later on in my 89 sierra cosworth. So you pick up revs so your around peak power in a rally car thats probably around 7300 to 8000, a road car around 6000 ish mark, you need your clutch change lighting fast, also your gear change needs to be lighting, you can do this with out a quick shift but your over rev your engine for longer. So a peak power, clutch goes down and gear change at same time, also DO NOT lift off the accelerator peddle what so ever> the car should sound like a motor bike doing a racing gear change, If you have a turbo car, you will find you dont loose any boost and in both cars you will get a kick. I still some times use this gear changing on the road if i think i am going to loose to a bigger car. So i like i said it does strain things, off road its fine as tire slip kinda smooths that out but on tarmac your just going to dig in when moving, pulling off the line i would not do from a standing start and only from 2nd gear up through the gears.

  • @acewaitaiki6213

    Just wanna say that.. if you hold a bit of pressure on the gear stick(pushing it to neutral) when you release the accelerator pedal, it will slip out of gear.. then youre pretty much just clutching into the next gear..🙂🤙🏼

    You can do that when there is no traction on the gears, but really should avoid it. Same as fast switching. This is not good for the transmission. And it is not faster than using the clutch.

    Nice vid., if just a bit long. You might want to mention something about clutch care, like what causes excessive wear. Clutches are expensive and difficult for a DIY guy. A dealer quoted $2100.00-ish for a clutch in my '05 Accord 6-6 (I have 160k miles on original clutch, and I'm not doing it myself). Iit's still fine, tho, and showing no signs of wear (yet)... tl;dr: take care of your clutch p.s. don't race a 6-6 Accord in a stock BRZ

My mate took his car to a dealer and a month later there was some problem so he took it to a private mechanic... They found the dealer didn't even change the clutch; the private mechanic said the dealer had just tightened something so it worked okay for a while longer!
