    All my little dogs LOVE fresh green beans as a treat. Often I just give these beans as the second meal of the day for my little fatty dog 😂😂

    No they aren’t all fat lol. Just the one chunky chihuahua. I try to keep her on a good low calorie diet. I’m starting to wonder if she might have thyroid issues. She is very active and a fantastic jumper despite her weight. 😳😳😳🐕🐕

    I might be 3 years too late but, I just recently started my dog’s weight loss journey. He’s an American Lab and he is probably about 110 pounds. I have been taking him on a 4.0 mile walk everyday(about an 1 hour and 15 minutes) . I am unsure about his diet. Is Whole Hearted a good brand for food?

    I’m not aware of that brand specifically. A light diet or specific weight loss diet would be best. Try talking to your vet clinic to see if they run any weight clinics to help you. Good luck!

    Which would be a more effective form of exercise ? Normal walks or stair climbing ?

  • @sarathganesh

    Human doc here, stair climbing when obese is not recommended as it places undue stress on the joints. Walks would be more ideal.

    My Beagles are FAT! They don’t get a lot of food but they lay around all day while I’m at work. They won’t eat vegetables in place of a treat. I’m a senior, have a torn MCL and meniscus, wear a brace, and have other health problems so I can’t walk too far and they want to smell every blade of grass. I’m frustrated.

    I have been struggling to put my dog on a diet for months. It is not necessarily her. It is me. I am usually the one who gives in to her because I feel so bad. What is wrong with me? I know she should stay on her diet but I end up just feeling terrible if I am eating and she is not. Any suggestions?

    focus on the outcome and end goal - better overall health, less chance of chronic pain (arthritis), less risk of disease (like diabetes), and a longer life

    @@OurPetsHealth She does have arthritis though which makes exercise a little difficult. She is lab Australian sheapard mix. Normally before the onset of it we loved going to the park and hiking trails together, now she just want to take her time and sniff everything. Lol! She is my little princesses.

    Feeding the right amount makes up at least 80% of a weight loss program. Feeding a weight loss diet, using food toys like those mentioned to make meal times more interesting + take longer as well as make her have to work a bit for her food will also help. If possible, enlist the help of your veterinary team who will often run excellent weight loss clinics. Regular monitoring is essential too. Good luck!

    Hi, my dog is a shih tzu and is currently 20 pounds. I understand that she is overweight and have been making changes to her diet and limiting snacks. Regarding to exercise, I don’t know how to start. Every time I take her on walks, she would only walk a few mins (less than 5mins) and gets tired. Any suggestions on how to build her stamina? Thanks in advance

    just try and go for walks that are as long as she can manage, preferably a couple of times a day (or even 3 times if they are that short and she can cope). Don't force her to go for longer than she can manage, and the changes to the amount you are feeding are the most important you can make. Well done for recognising the problem and implementing a plan!

    How can one calculate the calories in each ingredient that is fed to the pet ?

  • @OurPetsHealth

    @OurPetsHealth

    3 жыл бұрын

    there should be some indication of calorie content per weight of item on the packet. If not then there should be a helpline number who can let you know. If not or they don't know then it's probably not something you'd want to be feeding your pet

    So how can i get my cat to exercise. He sleeps all the times and when i get him toys he just watches. Should i be worried?

  • @OurPetsHealth

    @OurPetsHealth

    It can be difficult and your cat is probably like most when it comes to playing. Some strategies include rotating toys really frequently to try and stop them becoming bored, using lasers and cat nip to perk their interest, having cat towers, feeding them from a height so they need to work to get to where their food is, using treat/food balls or hiding their food in lots of areas so they really need to work to get their diet. I'll do a video on this topic in the future (I've just added it to my list!)
