    Hey bro I have been in the hobby seven months I stared with; a fuval flex with raporssoras and later get some tetras then later for Christmas got a shrimp tank (get over grown a lot but red rot floaters are nice ) I also made a live bear tank with guppies Platies endless and 2 😊 and later got a pea puffer named Gooof ball he eats like a champ. Eats 250 daphnia in a 2 days all my tanks are planted and a love floater plants ( the best ones in my option are Amazon frog it and red root floaters. So I hope I am at a good start I may start salt water and maby will get a mantis shrimp

    I remember checking out a very official looking book from the public library on Fish keeping and there was a section on how to and I quote “punish your fish for bad behavior”. It was time outs in the fish net for being aggressive with other fish or eating too much. We didn’t have the internet back then 😭 that’s all we had and the time outs never worked either. The fish never ‘learned’ to not do these things like the book implied. The net only temporarily stopped them from doing it while they were in the net. 😐

    I checked my tank this morning and saw my betta eating the amano shrimp I got last Friday. Then I came here and saw the woman beating her fish. Like, I get it, I'm pissed at my fish too, but there has to be something wrong with your brain to do that. For my part, I gave Peacock a stern look and called him an a-hole. He looked back with a dumb "wut" face, like he didn't do anything. But he knows what did...

    I have a guppy who is a couple months old, was in a 5 gallon with his 22 siblings until they got bigger, I just upgraded the males to a 20 gallon and the girls to the outdoor 40 gallon pond. For some reason this a-hole fish will NOT stop harassing other fish, mainly one other fish. So I told him he had to be demoted back to the five gallon.. with 3 others. Then he started harassing a different fish. So I moved that fish back to the 20 and switched it with a fish that looked more like him. He was good for a day or two and is now hassling him. Sometimes I put the pad of my finger on the glass to distract him, not knocking or tapping or anything, but to make him look elsewhere. He won’t STOP! This little shiz is gonna make me end up having to get a whole other tank and setup just for him!!!! I still would not slap him dude. I can’t even believe this woman thinks that’s a thing you can do….::: it honestly ruined my day. 😢 I hope someone did something and that fish is out of her “care”

    With kids my personal philosophy is 'if they can understand you why are you hitting them instead of using your words' and 'if they can't understand you why do you think hitting them will make them understand'. This applies triple for an animal with a brain so limited it only understands eating things that taste good and swimming away from things that hurt.

    Owh god no...dumb nonsence, this mentality is what creates the spoiled brat generation we got going now, the "cry everytime something doesnt go my way" generation, the "a customer screamed at me and now im crying in the bathroom" generation. Kids need CONSEQUENCE, some people also obviously go to far. However you are now taking the opposite end of the extreme. Its not about severe physical punishment nor about no punishment at all, its about finding a good balance. But there must be consequences to bad actions otherwise youll be one of those parents apologizing that their 10 year old is still going around touching woman in private places. Or apologizing about your 13 year old throwing a tamper tantrum for not getting macdonalds for the 5th time this week. CONSEQUENCES PEOPLE.

    There’s a dedicated fish store near the place I work at and yet they keep giving bad information. I often have customers come into our pet store and say something like “oh but these guys said it was ok to have three goldfish in 20 litres” and I have to tell them that’s why the fish died. How does a store that only deals with fish and turtles give worse fish advice than the general chain pet store?

  • @FishForThought

    @FishForThought

    man that is indeed crazy I don't know how it got to that point

  • @johnwilkerson9804

    @johnwilkerson9804

    9 ай бұрын

    It does happen. Odds are the customer implied an upgrade in the future or had a bad attitude or maybe the store employee was new or having a bad day. My local guy has 30+ years experience and accidentally gave me bad information on knife fish. He didn't know that the black ghost knife fish is basically blind and uses electric signals to see. His people told him a gallon per fish recommendation and didn't tell him adults don't typically do well living together. The electric signals cross each other and they fight. I now only have one and never even found the body of the other. It's not that he was super hard up for 18$ so he wanted to sell me more fish, it was that wasn't his niche and he just didn't know. But ask that man about a cichlid or a pleco question (things he breeds) and you'll be there for three hours getting info you never thought to ask. I don't blame the stores as much as I blame the customers. Just as a hobbiest talking with people in pet stores I've learned that for most people that keep aquariums, they have a space for the tank and whatever space that is is all they're doing and if it's not enough for the fish they already have "oh well it's in there now" is the overwhelming response I get. All we can do is help where we can.

  • @psychebeauty611
    @psychebeauty6119 ай бұрын

    Yeah fish punishment isn't really a thing... at most I've had to get an in-tank breeder box to separate the aggressor from the others. Generally that's been in very specific situations like breeding behavior for my sparkling gourami. The big female was being overly aggressive so she got some cooldown time in a breeder box. But qotw, pygmy corydoras! And kuhli loaches.

    I have a paradise fish with a blue gorami and they're in a heavy planted 55 gallon aquarium (hate the scape but it's good for the fish and I'm learning) and because there's so much cover and space I've seen zero issues with them so far. Definitely keeping an eye out for trouble but so far so good. Lots of space and tons of plants and line of sight breaks like in the tank you showed should let you have two semi aggressive fish assuming they have the right personality lol

    I had a red sword that started chasing its tank mates, so I responded by catching him in the big aquarium net, kinda like the first video, only I didn’t hit the fish. I kept him submerged and he had a few inches to swim in, but was imprisoned in the net. After a little while I released him back into the tank. He chased the fish again so I imprisoned him longer. The chasing decreased after that. I did it a couple times after but then the chasing stopped, at least while I was watching but I didn’t see any nipped fins either. He lived on as a peaceful community fish. I was probably about 10 years old at the time.

Noone who works at the chain ones seem to have a clue about anything and aside from the obligatory neon tetras and guppies they always have plenty of extremely unsuitable species in stock and love to try to sell you stuff like juvenile red tail catfish or oscars as "Nice small beginner-friendly fish"

    Huh, well that's explained how my grandpa found a flounder in a lake. We were so confused how a "salt" water fish got so big in a freshwater lake. This was before the internet. This fish is not native here so grandpa ate someone's pet 😅. Either way grandpa did a favour to nature cause flounders aren't native in my country ( especially how far in land we are).

    I just found a channel claiming that bettas in the wild move very little so they can be just fine in a 1 gallon container .. and in the comments even those who say that bettas look great in large aquariums, however in stores they stay for months in small pots without it harming them or making them sick, so it is perfectly ethical to keep them in small containers

    The usual reasons for constant aggression between aquarium fish are lack of space, lack of hiding places and unsuitable tankmates. All of these are down to the fishkeeper's choice. That woman should whoop herself for abusing animals for attention.
