Markus Kobelt, the founder and breeder of the Swiss fruit tree nursery Lubera, talks about how to prune a Malini. A Malini is an type of apple tree which is called the columnar type due to its growth habit. Anyway ypu don`t have to do much with this kind of tree.
Rule 1: Shorten any branches to 15 or 20 cm.
Rule 2: Don`t remove any branch completely. You have to preserve at least 5 cm.

Short and to the point. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Lovely. The Lubera blog post on these trees is the nicest written reference on these, and now I find this video from essentially the same place telling me what I need to know.
I have two of these trees here in our organic garden in North Wales and was unsure how to prune them. Following along with your video I have pruned according to your instructions, so will let you know how the trees get on. Many thanks for a really good video.
Fantastic video! Really appreciate the attention to detail! My columnar Apple looks just like the one you pruned in this video. Do you recommend I wait until the tree is dormant to prune, or should I prune it now in the summer with lots of leaves? Thank you!
Hi, great video! I have a columnar apple that I planted last year. The central leader was pruned, and there are 3 new candidate leaders that are about 4 cm. Should I pick one and prune the rest now (early spring), or wait to see which one grows the most and then prune next year? Thanks!

Helllo, just pick one and make him the central leader, I would prune the other two side branches very shortly to 0,5 cm length.
Where to buy Maloni apple trees in the USA?
