How to Properly Set Up Coil-overs
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We don't often get technical with our videos, but I've spent so much time setting up my suspension for the last few years that I felt like you all might appreciate an in depth look at setting up suspension.
These are the coilovers that I got for my civic:

Finally a channel that shows the correct way to set up coilovers 👏
Good work on explaining the complexities of proper suspension setup. I’d say 80% of slammed car owners don’t understand this and another 10% of owners don’t do this.

If anyone understands it, it is going to be the slammed vehicles lol. Considering they have to account for chassis swap to not buckle or crush a body panel.
Thanks for being that car channel that best describes my interests within the car community. You guys are phenomenal. It’s been a trip, I’ve been watching since the escort and the progress speaks for itself…
Keep these type of track technical video coming 👍 ❤️
Good job going through this all! Definitely one of the clearest videos for teaching how to setup 2 piece coilovers with goodninfor to take to one piece coilovers. Will be sharing as a demonstration of how to setup suspension.
This channel has come a long way from working on your turbo escort. Great to see the progress.
This couldn’t have came at at better time! I just literally installed 2 way adjustable Coilovers on my c5 vette & I was wondering how to properly setup them up. Awesome job explaining everything.
I absolutely love it when you guys do the work on your vehicles yourself! Loved the video!
I love this civic. Excited to see where it goes once you decide to go higher class again!
Fortune auto is great, and Devin is a huge help for dialing in my setup!
One of the very few youtube channels that goes over the correct way to setup coilovers! Great video as always!
Great resources. Huge fan of what you guys do. Much love!
Thank you for this. Interesting. Hope this gets a follow-up on the track with some explanation about what you notice and how you adjust.
Think I need to watch this again because it’s so good and redo my simple 1 way coilovers. Amazing video
Finally someone made this video. So many people dont know and dont really show how to set it up out of the box.
Can’t wait to see the changes with the new suspension
great explanation on everything! broke it down nicely! really enjoyed this one
Love the information, thank you for the time and effort
Excited when mine arrives
Great episode! Been waiting for this one for a while.
Without a doubt, this is the best coilover setup video in the history of KZread. I'll see you in Club TR next year! 🍺
really wish you guys would do a in -depth series on this technical stuff that no one on yt talks about. you know,, in your usual way and not in front of a chalk board. it would be very educational; for those whom dont have the connections for this type of reliable info locally.
Finally a proper guide for coilover install!
Nice seeing the science behind suspension travel. If done right, double wishbone’s ability to toe out is going to create some magic.
Thanks for the content guys,,,love from kenya 🇰🇪
Awesome video...... for sure i have to see it more times as i custom fit some coils to my car Thanks Ben
A nice glaze over it but still informative to those who don't know. Can't wait to see the ZX2 get a set

I can never focus on your topic when you're working on the Civic because I'm too busy admiring that Civic. That generation Civic hatchback has such a timeless design in my opinion.
Finally! Suspension made by an actual suspension company.
What's sitting in your lap while you're in the driver's seat, showing the corner balance on the scale display? Ballast of some sort? I initially thought it might be your helmet/race suit, but it looks like it's attached to the steering wheel, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at! Great video, as always. Love that you're giving us this level of technical detail, it's great to see how much thought goes into making a fast car that tenth faster.
Proper video. Few points to add; Tbf it doesn’t make whole lot of sense to first set the spring perch heights(rideheight) b4 setting the full compr setting since you’re gonna adjust it anyway, this way, you can save some time by installing coilover directly, without a spring. And every tire is different from another, for example 195/50/15 ar-1 vs 195/50/15 R888, there is a 7/8mm height difference in the tire. (Even some width) This means that the tire will hit the chassis in full compression.. And the bumpstop will compress more than what you’re able to do with the cars weight & lifting the wishbone & coilover to check bumpstop travel. For example at foxhole in nurburgring, there can easily be 2G’s. It’s a good measure to factor in a 5mm extra space between tire & chassis if you really dont want to rub in ANY situation.
I think the most important part is the camber and toe adjustment, I saw you doing it but not explained, off corse that can be dial in the track with a infrared thermometer.
this video was good
God damn. My man is running the dreadnought. Tell me your suspension is more expensive then your car without telling me.
So, where do you set the compression and rebound knobs on the shocks at? Set it in the middle as a starting point?
*Virginia in the house!*
Now you know. And knowing is half the battle!
Are you guys coming to gridlife in Colorado?
Hey, so out of curiosity how/what did you use to mount the canister? Just got my coils and was wondering if you had any tips :)
Damn so I already missed you in Jersey
nice that you show the alignment for 8 seconds
Hi what kind of spring rates are you running with the roll center correction?
do these suspension setup tips apply to all cars in general or are specific cars different?
How would you adjust bump stop height on independent suspension?
Following this series to help build my teams Passat endurance race car. Please help
good to see you gave up on those ktuned coilovers. check corner balance when turning into a corner dependant on caster
hey Ben, are you running Helper springs or Tender/Assist Springs?
At 5:00......really like the LoFi background music.
Nee clarification. When setting the ride height for 50% compression and 50% droop do you adjust the spring perch or the shock perch?
At 9:30 , are you also changing the preload of the spring?
I have bc racing with 32 damper setting , should I put super hard or on 16 17 click for track day ?
Uhhh....Professor Ben, starting at 4:21....willl this material be on the next test?!?
Do you feel the K-swap FRS\BRZ will end up taking over this class? Seems all that chassis needed was a better engine.
Serious question here! Ik there are tons of factors when it comes to spring rates but looking for a good rule of thumb for a fwd track car. Do you want neutral spring rates or a stiff bias to front/rear? For context my car is front heavy 60-40,lowered, big rear sway bar, cambered -2,-1.5 with .01 toe out front and rear. Any help is appreciated as theres so much personal biased info but i want facts.
Yay my morning poop held out 😂 best shit to wake up to.
so when would you swap spring rates?
Now that's some great sponsored content
Hilarious question, but what lug nuts are you running?
When is the k swap glow up coming for the escort?
Here we go again. Little Ben doing a commercial and wrapping it as ‘content’.
2:00 travel before bind is also a pretty relevant detail when selecting coilover springs (though not much difference between the Hypercos and Swifts here). Also, do the springs actually test out at their stated rate?
@TJPDmember

Swift springs are load tested :) i dunno about the other.

Stick em in a shock dyno
Why do you want to lower the shock body and utilise the bumpstop (have the bumpstop compressed) inlieu spring compression? Most coilovers are height adjustable at the lower collar and using the strut lower cup. I just wanted to know why the need to utilise the bumpstop and not the springs to prevent bottoming out?
What are your spring rates for rear?
million dollar question, don you regret going full race car? was it more fun while it was simple? curious moreso than anything. great video as always
@miguelaguilera6601

I mean considering he just tracks the car and never uses it on the road I expect him to not regret it at all. Especially considering its a FWD car. FWD cars really do completely transform when given full racecar spec. Also keep in mind that going full racecar allows him to get creative considering the class he is in, and obviously this is great for the YT channel. I don't know what his personal views are but I think he's done the right thing going full track tool on this one. And obviously the Honda platform is more than ideal for that

@@iansharpe8420 I sure miss the canyon days. Honestly I want them to finish the Mr2 Toyota engine swap build and the K swap S2000 build and do some canyon runs... I think once they are done with both of those cars which I would say it'll take them 10 months.. they should do a nice road trip. Something like east to west or north to south or diagonally crossing the country
explain the dialing in process :) That's gonna be interesting
I want the most comfortable ride coilovers I can get for my daily driven ‘91 Civic hatch. As for ride height, I’m not looking to be slammed, again this is a daily driver so a little lower than stock is preferred. Currently my Civic has Tein progressive lowering springs with Bilstein struts. All other suspension components are Hardrace with hardened rubber bushings. So which coilovers and brands do you guys suggest for the most in comfort?

6:53 Hi tall Ben...working on next week's video are we?
Yeeeee
I can't get over how handsome the fortune auto representative is at the beginning of the video. Like I'm not even gay, bro just has really great teeth.
It’s funny because isn’t fortune one of the coilover companies that say to adjust ride height with the lower collar and cup and not with preload? I do agree making sure your tire and arms don’t hit sure makes a lot of sense but I think fortune is one of the companies who say don’t adjust preload for ride height.
Number 1 item you need for this job, hydraulic lifts HAHAHA cant imagine the pain doing this without powertools and lifts

Is this just one giant ad for Fortune Auto?
You skipped checking the corner balance after attaching the swaybars. That's what adjustable swaybar endlinks are for. A lot of aftermarket bars aren't perfectly symmetrical and will "wedge" the car a little with equal length swaybar endlinks. Obviously this is a manufacturing tolerance thing so it's possible the bars are perfect, just not likely.

I am surprised there weren't any "Let's Check Your Knowledge" mini quizzes throughout the video........
