Wet/Dry abrasive paper. Sold at the link below(every grade you need, and cheaper), or you can buy it in individual grades for more money at a local auto parts store or Walmart. The longer you spend wet sanding with the 3000 grit or higher abrasive paper, the better the end result will be. Thanks for watching amzn.to/2x2cQZm (Amazon Affiliate Link)

Thanks a lot for this nice video! Did you try it on ps1 games? I've tried on one that was at least starting but it's not starting anymore. I think it's not polished enough because it's not very bright like yours, but i've been polishing it for a while with wet paper. Maybe it's my paste, is it really important? On your video your disc seemed already very good after the 3000 grit paper.

It worked for me. I saved a $460 cd I got from Discogs. I somehow scratched the hell out of it during a move, which is not a proud moment considering the price tag and rarity of the album. However I’m still left with lots of tiny scratches, and my burner keeps ejecting it. It plays fine in a CD player now though, oddly. I did use Brasso which I had on hand instead of headlight polish like yourself. Would I need to sand longer and possibly harder with the higher grit?

Will this method work for a single deep scratch at the edge of a music CD or do I need to go with a lower number on the first sandpaper? Also you never did show how you cleaned off the excess polish afterwards. Did you run it under the tap water and dry it off with a microfiber cloth?

Do not do this on blurays. Their construction is radically different than CD/DVD. It will damage/remove the incredibly thin hardcoat, the data layer is very near the hardcoat. Unlike CD where the data is near the label side, and DVD where the data is near the middle.

Yes, many will remove fine scratches from a car's clearcoat finish. Make sure the abrasive paper is wet, and you keep rinsing. Use steady pressure, and near the end use lighter pressure. No reason to have more scratches if you do a good job and finish it off with the scratch/swirl remover.

There does seem to be two schools of thought on the DIRECTION of the sanding/restoring motion on the disc surface. Some are saying that one should only go from EDGE TO EDGE in a straight line, whereas others are specifically calling for going in a CIRCULAR pattern, as demonstrated here, much as one would clean an LP record. I take it has to do with how the laser reads the data imbedded. Which is right, or does it truly matter?

I tried this method on 2 PS3 games, and the end result was a fail. After a lengthy amount of time using the 3000 and 5000 grit paper and the recommended turtle wax scratch remover, I was not able to restore the original sheen on the discs' surface. However, the deep scratches were gone after using the recommended sand paper grits. Still, this was not good enough for the game console to read the disc. I strongly advise against this method since there is no guarantee that your CD or DVD will be repaired.

Much appreciated there, but still, it is a very specific repair process that likely a lot of folks will fail at.
