You can steam a glove. I would recommend glove Steam for no more than one minute and half twice. It’s a short cut, but you still have to play catch with the glove for about a week to form the pocket. You want to keep a ball in your glove when you’re not using it, rather than to stuff it away in your equipment bag. You’re going to form the pocket from the force of catching the ball in the pocket. But, you can steam a glove. For a very short duration anything over one minute thirty seconds and you’re probably going to run the risk of damaging the glove or the glove breaking down more quickly than usual, especially with a top of the line glove like the A2000. Also, you run the risk of the color dye of the glove starting to run a little bit if you over steam your glove. You can always steam your glove again but just for a very short duration and not over a minute and a half in the steamer. If you steam the glove for a longer duration of four or five minutes than you run the risk of hardening the leather and it will turn out as he described in the video with a floppy pocket. That isn’t what you want especially for a top of the line glove. But, you have to play catch with the glove for at least one week to properly break in your glove.

Good video .. 1 question. I'm an old guy. I HAVE NOTICED THAT KIDS NOW ARE BREAKING IN THEIR GLOVES AND I THINK YOU CALLED IT FLARING THE THUMB AND PINKY??? WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT THEIR GLOVE TO LOOK LIKE THAT BUT EVEN WORSE TO WORK LIKE THAT? IT LOOKS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND SEEMS TO MAKE THE POCKET NAROW AND SHALLOWER? I HAVE ALWAYS BENT THE THUMB IN AND PUSHED THE FINGERS DOWN TOWARDS THE HEEL OF THE GLOVE. THIS CREATES A DEEP POCKET AND A BOWL/SCOOP SHAPED GLOVE . IF A BALL HITS ANYWHERE ORHER THAN THE POCKET . THE SHAPE OF THE SCOOP AND THUMB BENT IN WILL FUNNEL BALLS TOWARD THE POCKET. FLARED OUT PINKY AND THUMB WILL LET THE BALL WORK AWAY FROM THE POCKET?? AGAIN EVEN IF SOMEONE COULD EXPLAIN TO ME WHY FLARING THE THUMB AND PINKY OUT MAKES THE GLOVE WORK BETTER. I STILL WOULD NEVER BREAK MY GLOVE IN THAT WAY.. BECAUSE IT LOOKS LAME AS SHIT!! BUSH LEAUGE FLARING PINKY AND THUMB..

I believe the one vs 2 break points is a choice you make in how you break the glove in. I think a lot of glove content creators prefer 2 break points but my kids naturally gravitate toward one hinge/break due to lack of hand size and strength.

If you like the form like that then go ahead. There’s no right or wrong way. Many outfielders flare their glove
i steamed my first glove and regret it a little because once it got formed after being steamed it stayed but i just got a new glove and i’m doing it this way which is perfect
Thank u so much
Good video ..
What do u suggest double hinged of single hinged
@GoatGloves

Single if you go traditional and double if you do two in the pinky
Do all gloves have two break points And how many does a Wilson a500 youth have
@mdsmith1019
2 жыл бұрын
I believe the one vs 2 break points is a choice you make in how you break the glove in. I think a lot of glove content creators prefer 2 break points but my kids naturally gravitate toward one hinge/break due to lack of hand size and strength.
How should I prevent/remove creases or bubbles when breaking it in?
@oracleforum06

I use 2 in the pink and only squeeze those finger I don’t squeeze the middle and index fingers when catching and I don’t get bubbles from it
What about putting hot water to loosen up the leather? Will it ruin the leather?
@mdsmith1019

Check out 914 Ball Gloves or Ball Glove King. They have great break in videos and explain when and why you would want to use hot water. TLDR: hot water is for shaping the glove rather than breaking it in.
Great thank you braking my glove this way. Question song in the background??🤔

About how long will the whole process take
@GoatGloves
3 жыл бұрын
It varies based on preference and glove but I’d say around an hour of malleting and multiple rounds of catch. It’s best to break it up in sessions tho and not do it all at once.
Can I use a wood bat to break my glove in instead of those tools you showed
@GoatGloves

If the bat is cupped at the end, it will leave imprints in the leather so I don’t recommend it.

Depending on how much you work on it, I would say 1-2 hours of mallet work and multiple rounds of catch

What happeneds if you break the thumb plastic
@GoatGloves

It decreases the stability of the glove. If a ball hits the thumb it has a higher chance of popping out rather than staying in the glove

Yea the steamer literally doesn't do that. I've seen plenty of a2000 put in the steamer for 5+ minutes and doesn't loosen up a damn thing. You still have to beat the hell out of it.
