How To Break in a Baseball Glove

❗️ If you need me to Break-In your baseball glove click here👇
ballgloveking.com/products/fi...
How to break in a baseball glove: I'll show you guys exactly how I do this myself. I love the process of breaking a glove in because you are teaching the glove what to do. Slowly but surely the leather will gain a memory. So don't teach your glove to do the wrong thing!
I prefer using the hot water treatment on my glove. The biggest thing to watch out for is making sure you don't smear any colors on the glove! Usually the only colors that can ever bleed into the leather is blue and red and usually the only spots on the glove you need to worry about are the laces. If you guys have any more questions about breaking your glove in just comment and I'll help you out!

I do hot water first, do my stretching next, I use a mallett to beat a deep pocket in, I shape my glove just like you, beat the same hinge points, I also like the heel stiff, and I beat the hinge points again once dry. The rest is played in. Great video man.

For palms that are too thin and you can’t get rid of hand sting, here’s what I’ve been doing since 1989. Get a piece of Velcro, the furry side. Not the hard plastic side. Cut a piece where the sting is and stick it in there. It’s a soft pad that works, costs almost nothing and will last as long as the glove does. You won’t notice the weight or even that it’s there if it’s in the right spot.

I was having trouble getting my son's gloves broken in enough that he could manage them (he's small with weak hands) so I got desperate and put them in the dryer with some wet clothes, and played catch immediately after taking them out of the dryer. Not sure I would do it on my own glove, but not sure I wouldn't, but it worked well on his (Rawlings R9 and Akadema AZR95).

I don't usually do the water softening trick unless I need to use a glove within a few days. If I do, I dry the glove in a closed position with a ball in the pocket. Tie it closed or stuff it in between the dash/window of my car. Pull it out in 24 hrs and play an hour of catch, glove will feel delightful and genuinely game ready. (unless a catchers mit.... in this case another 10 years of catch should be good to go;)

I’d say it’s smart to not hot water, something that is good is for you to use it when it’s hot and sweaty out. Like try to practice in it if you can. It can make a huge difference sometimes. But if you’re anywhere around me it’s getting chili outside so that’s hard. If that’s the case I’d say as much as it stinks you just gotta keep working and working on it with a mallet or just a ball if that’s all you have. In the end you can’t go wrong with playing a ton of catch!

Aside from actually going to the ballpark, the fastest ball my glove sees is me playing ‘couch catch’ with myself. If it was free, or if people weren’t around, I would almost wanna go to a batting cage and have it zip 80-90mph fastballs while I just act like I’m at first or something.

best thing ive ever done to break in a glove is to steam it. Just used a large pot of water, a collander, and a large frying pan lid. This kept it out of the water and you're able to control temp pretty easily on your stove. After, I used Glovolium and while it was still steamed, I used a glove mallet in the pocket and on the seams and thumb. Took about 30 min.

I have used corn and rice bags to shape break in gloves. You put the corn bag in the microwave for 2 min and just put it in the glove. I also like to use a little glove oil inside and out while I do this. This causes the glove oil to sink in and loosen up the glove.

Thank you so much for this video! My sister got a new softball mit over the off-season, and no matter what she did, it wouldn't break in. so, right B4 her first practice, she tasks me to break it in for her. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful, so my sister had to use her old mit. A week or two ago, my sister said that she'd pay me $50 if I could break in the mit by the end of April, so she could use it for the last month of games in May. After watching this video, I broke in the mit, and I am $50 more rich. Pro tip for those who have coloured laces, instead of using the hot water treatment, put 2-4 kilograms of weight on the mit and leave it overnight (6-8 hours). After that, the mit will close like my dad's high school first baseman mit. ( When you normally set it down, it flops close) I will say my experience with the 2-4kg on the mit: if you want every single part of the mit lose, use it. The reason I had to do this is because my sister got a blonde mit with orange laces. I didn't want to get the blonde, almost white mit stained with orange on the fingers. For anyone who's wondering, black and orange are my schools colours, thus the orange laces.

I don’t think it’s generally a good idea to wet any type of leather (unless you use saddle soap) because when it dries it can become brittle which means you need to oil it or condition/restore it with saddle soap or any oil-based or water-based conditioner.

  • @xxRock81xx

    @xxRock81xx

    Жыл бұрын

Your not getting it that wet, I do add conditioner once done. Water does two things, it softs the glove just enough to work/best the hinge points in, to beat the pocket as deep as you like, and then to have it dry into the shape you want it. It doesn't make the glove brittle.

I’m old school. I use a glove conditioner and leave a ball in the pocket for a couple days under my pillow. I repeat using a hood glove conditioner every day for about a week. Then once I get the pocket formed. I just go play catch with it. Usually only takes a day of practice to break in a new glove. Maybe two days if you do short practices. I’ve steamed one glove at dicks. I’ll never do that again.

Red will bleed into the black, but you won’t notice it because the black is so dark. Red and blue dyes don’t hold well in leather so they will always bleed, but you could literally put red dye on black leather and you still won’t see it

Japanese gloves in general have straighter fingers, MUCH wider heels and palms, shallower pockets, and because of their shape, run a bit shorter than we’d think they are. (11.75 might feel more like an 11.5). I’d only use one if you have bigger hands and like the straighter fingers. Definitely a unique style of glove.

Might be late to the party but as someone who is now recently getting back in baseball after 20+ years out of the game, one thing I would do after the manipulating, hot water and couch catch was to leave a ball in the pocket, wrap it a warm cloth/towel and then massage it to almost mould around the baseball in the pocket. Once the towel was cool I would pat dry the glove with paper towel and then keep the ball in and put it under my mattress for a few days when I went to bed. Came out with a really good shape IMO
