    Bro your a champion 🏆 you gave me the confidence too add a Tail light,I already had a headlight I brought a Y splitter and plugged It into the Headlight wire 😮 and ran the tail light off a That , Woohoo It's got a brake light too the Tail light I got, Next Step is hook that up with a Spltter from the Brake cut off switch Some how, 😅 I will have too try and figure that out but should be Doable Thanks dude 😎 at least I got a Tail light 😊

    I would have to pay someone to do this for me because I just know I’m gonna screw something up. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed unfortunately. While I’ve only had my first e-bike for a year and a half I started adding RGBs and customizing just a couple months ago so I’m quite new to this too. I use USB and power banks but the banks are hard to hide as I have 6 of them on my bike wherever. 2 usb ports each. It’s hard to find good quality and dynamic RGBs that can be used via USB. When I do, they are usually white so they stand out like a sore thumb on my midnight blue e-bike. This video is helpful but I got a bunch left to learn. By the way your bike looks amazing 💫

    Thanks so much! I'm sure you can do it! Power banks will work, but this setup will be a lot cleaner and you don't have to worry about keeping them all charged up 👍

    Great video as usual! Very beginner friendly and not hard to understand. I’ve added lights to my bike with this exact method. The step down converter allows you to basically add anything. I bought a horn for my bike and it was rechargeable, but I would always forget to charge it lol. So I pulled it apart took the batteries out and connected it to my 12V power supply. Now I only have to charge just the bike batteries. Some folks may even run an extra 12v battery pack but meh. I would love a tutorial of how to make the brake lights flicker when you pull the brake lever. I don’t quite understand the implications of that. My stock braking system had them, but I took those off now I’m unsure. As far as I know it may have something to do with resistors or something? lol I wish I went to school for electronics.

    Thanks man! Yeah it can be annoying to have to remember to charge a bunch of smaller batteries on your bike, it's much easier just to use the main battery. Yes for the brake light, it's usually a switch actuated by the brake lever, and then fed to a flasher relay (like on a car or motorcycle), it's pretty simple actually. I can make you guys a tutorial on how to add turn signals that's no prob 👍

    @@hightech-lowlife okay, thanks man! That would be a dope video. I had turn signal on my bike before but I took them off (to many wires lol) but the ones I had were the ones with the relay already inside of them so all I had to do was hit the button and they would flicker. The brakes on the other hand I couldn’t full understand how to make them do the same with brake lever and how to make it so that when I press the brakes it goes from low brake to high brake light. I saw a dude wire up a clicker switch behind is brake levers so that when he hits the levers they push onto the clicker switch, which then triggers the light, but I wasn’t really feeling that. Overall though, good video, they are really helpful for beginners and I like to watch them for even more knowledge and or a different way of doing things!!! 👍🏽

    Do you need to add a fuse on the 12 volt side incase of a short? If a short happens would it burn up the dc-dc step down converter? I'd like to put light strip under the fenders, and concerned over time the debree from the wheel will damage and short the LED strip.

    Adding fuses is never a bad idea, but I've never added one on my accessory line. If you're afraid of having your led's shorted then you can just add an inline fuse between them and the converter 👍

    I'm currently adding a light bar for a headlight but I'm using a separate battery pack for it because even if I forget to charge it, I always have the factory headlight as a backup! I might do an integrated setup down the road when I have a higher capacity battery, but for right now I don't want to reduce my range even by a small amount if I can avoid it because it's already not the greatest! Lol. Do you have any tips for adding a true brake light and turn signals though? I've been wondering about that!

  • @hightech-lowlife

    @hightech-lowlife

    7 ай бұрын

    Yes, I would say the range impact is very minimal though 👍 I have added brake lights and turn signals before, you can buy a motorcycle style control set for fairly cheap and the wiring is simple. Brake is just a pressure switch attached to your brake levers that is activated when you hit the brakes. Thanks man!

    @@hightech-lowlife I know, it's just the range anxiety getting to me! Lol. I figured this setup is fine for now and I'll get more info the weeds of it when I start modifying my bike with the higher voltage/capacity battery and higher current controller! Okay sweet, and then you can wire the LED strips to that motorcycle controller for the turn signals right? I'm picturing LED strips on the forks and each side of my rear rack for better visibility!

    @@bbllrstv13 You should do a range test so you know exactly how far your bike will go and then you can calculate either through mileage or voltage 👍 No, the moto controller is just for switches, you'd still need a step down converter because you need a 12V circuit to run the lights, if you want turn signals to flash you'll also need a flasher relay, although I have made a switchback flasher with just two regular relays. Maybe I'll do a video on how to set it all up, but it's pretty simple and I also don't know how many people are wanting to add turn signals and brake lights to their ebikes. You add a lot of wiring by doing it and for most riding it's not really necessary.

    @@hightech-lowlife funny you mention that, because I was literally planning to do that next week during my commute! I usually do a mix of throttle only and various levels of pedaling because some days I actually want the exercise and some days I'm too tired from work! Lol. So I actually want to do a controlled test on throttle only, without resetting my trip meter and see how far I can go doing that on one charge! Yeah I guess so, I just think it would be cool looking, on top of being occasionally practical for my riding scenarios. I realized I would still need the step down converter, I just figured the motorcycle controller would have the flashing relay built in for turn signals instead of having to add another component to the mix! 😅

    I know absolutely nothing about wiring. This video was quite easy to follow and very interesting. Can you please show me how to connect 2 front rear switches ( on/off R and L side) both have 3 wires red green and black Thanks

  • @hightech-lowlife

    @hightech-lowlife

    3 ай бұрын

    What are you trying to switch? Most lighting has 2 wires (red and black) if you have a 3rd wire that's usually for some sort of signal, or it could be a bright/dim setting. 👍 A switch just interrupts a circuit, when the switch is "on" it connects the circuit, when it is "off" it disconnects the circuit.

    You might want to check your tire pressure too, the harder your tires the less forgiving they are to absorb impacts shifting all that kinetic energy directly to your spokes @@mansonmason6119
