Hmm I recently looked into this to try with my fruit trees. All the advice I saw was to keep the cuttings between 4-8 inches long at most. I think this is because the plant has to use it's energy to grow roots rather than sustaining a big long branch. That being said, I'm pretty sure I already killed my cuttings by over watering. So. What do I know lol. I'd be curious to know how yours do. Good luck!

I love this! I am on two days I think now of them being potted and they are still alive and well. I did notice the pear tree blossoms to be wilting a bit, but they all look healthy and alive and well still! I defiantly will keep you updated on the turn out! Praying it works, how awesome would that be?

You should air layer your trees. The success rate is much higher..80-90%. You can actually watch their root growth while it’s still be supported by the mother tree. The air layer will be an exact clone of the mother tree and will take 1-2 years to fruit. After it roots & gets cut off from the mother tree (6-8 weeks), plant it but cut off any flowers its first year so it focuses on building a strong root system in the ground. You can find many videos on KZread, but here’s a video short so you understand the basic process.

You better start a few hundred because you will get below 1% with this method with apple and pear trees.
