A few of my turning tools are made by Crown and I quite like them. Watching this video, I’m inspired to shape an asymmetric bowl scraper the other side of what you are showing. I turn in reverse when I can for hollowing,(physical problem) and most tools are shaped for forward direction. I’m inspired. Thank you.

Hello Tomislav, I am glad with you about these beautiful tools. This video shows that they are in good hands with you. Crown has not asked you to advertise, but you have certainly provided publicity through your professional performance. I mean that in a positive sense. As a beginner, I already have two Crown irons and am very satisfied with them. Keep up the good work with your videos. I have already learned a lot from you. By the way, congratulations on your new lathe 😉. I think I'll stick with my DML 320 for quite a while. I turned my first oak lidded box today and I'm already a little proud of the result. Your video in which you show your everyday life as a turner has me by the way also very pleased. 50 bowls pre-turned and some more, is already a decent result for one day. So, stay healthy and tell your father-in-law, he should not torture the circular saw so 🤣. Greetings Andreas, who would still like to lie on the beach in Pula.

I wanted to buy a large scraper last week, influenced by you and Richard but could not find any in Canada. I had to buy one in the USA (Raffan refining scraper from Henry Taylor) some 110$ us with shipping of 50$us, over 200$ cad. One store sells Crown (Lee valley) but a very limited products! I hope Crown would find a good distributor in Quebec or Canada! Thanks again for all the learning you provide

I use scrapers for all of my heavy roughing on bowls, and have been doing that for a long time. Most of the time I will use the burr straight from the grinder. I generally like a 70 degree bevel on mine, which is pretty much how they came, and it is the angle used on the Big Ugly tool that the coastal woodturners in Oregon have been using for so long, no one knows who came up with the idea of using the tantung for the cutting edge. Stellite is a very similar material. I do prefer mine to be 1 inch wide and maybe 5/16 inch thick. Not sure how that translates to millimeters since we gringos/yankees don't use metric.... I do like kind of a straight across and then sweeping back a bit/1/4 round profile for my bowl scrapers. For shear scrapers, kind of the same thing, but I like a burnished burr better than the grinder burr.

The shear scrapers ,old one from HSS bar and this new one,old one I have to raised the burr several times on the outside of the bowl, where with cryogenic I scraped several bowls and boxes..... Great content and very helpful to me as an inexperienced turne asI never get good results with scrapers. Looks like my sharpening technique needs work. I hope you make a video using the revolution midi hollower tool. I bought one recently (for my first attempt at making a hollow form) as i hoped to get better results by using the super ring tool (as it has a cutting edge rather than scraping edge) but really struggle and get lots of dust rather than shavings. I would really like to see how you get on using it compared to the HHS scraper

Kudos to Crown. Thanks to them for helping you help us. When scraping I’ve been taught to keep the angle between the top of the tool and the face of the material at less than 90 degrees. Tool pointing down effectively. It’s hard to tell what angle you use. How close to level are you?

Thank you for support 🤗 I always have the handle higher, otherwise there is a good chance for nasty catch..... Camera can sometimes distort angles... Thank you once again
