For those of you who think "oh I park my bike in my secure garage" try to minimize the amount of time your garage is open. Someone SAW my dirtbike in my garage one day and decided they wanted it. Came back in the middle of the night, broke their way through a deadbolt by destroying the frame and bucking of the side door to my garage and ran off with JUST the dirtbike (street bike and tools left untouched). I still have nightmares of walking out into my garage and finding everything missing, and that was 5 years ago....

6 months ago my dogs woke me up because they heard a noise from the garage 11:30 at night. I opened the door to the garage from my kitchen held both my dogs by the collar and told them "sshhh" ( two fully grown well trained German Shepherds ) waited for the guy to open the garage door fully. As soon as he looked across and the lights came on I asked him if he thought he could out run my two dogs that were at this point snarling and barking at him. I’ve actually switched from motorcycle chains to “security chains”, made be Nielsen who do warehouse and goods vehicle security. My bikes are secured with a chain that’s 18kg (39lbs) and is designed to resist 6” angle grinders (plus the cover and disc lock), which means if they REALLY want one of my bikes, they will have to work for it. Here in the UK, the so-called “professional” thieves won’t both with anything that takes longer than 10-15mins as in that time they could get two targets as they often have a list.

Night riding requires you to be extra cautious, lights need to work and reflective gear are critical. Rain is something that happens so be prepared, what that means is regular maintenance is not an option on a motorcycle, tires and brakes should be good at all times. Having a rain suit on you when the weather looks questionable is always a good idea, and if it is going to rain and you can avoid riding it is best to avoid riding.

I mean, it's this simple if you have a home with a garage, like a house with attached. Put a lock on the track system inside. My uncle works on doors all the time and installs them everyday, this is one of the main thing he does to doors when he installs em. As long as you garage has no other access to it except the bay door and doo that leads into the home they won't be able to break in. They can try to open your door but they'll have to literally destroy it to enter and that'd make such a ruckus that the entire neighborhood would be awake at that point.

Yes you all will probably chew my ass out but I’m ex military and I’ve been planning this for almost a year between saving for gear, security, and research before buying a bike. For anyone who likes to tinker, here's an old school, cheap and easy, homemade option that I have on my vintage machine that's way too easy to hotwire: You'll need to purchase a mercury switch and a toggle switch to wire it into. They're cheap. Mount them somewhere discreet (mine is mounted inside my toolbox, with the toggle switch coming through a hole that I drilled in the top of the toolbox.) Wire this setup into your battery and into your horn (three separate wires: mercury switch to toggle switch, toggle switch to battery, and mercury switch to horn.) Finally, set the angle of the mercury switch so that it activates when the bike is standing level. That's it. Now, anytime you park your bike in a place where you're concerned about theft, flip on the toggle switch, and if someone stands the bike up without turning it off, the horns will immediately start blaring. Homemade motorcycle alarm that is a solid deterrent to thieves.

2 things: Checkout Pewag chain. About 62 rockwell IIRC. I bought it by the foot. The vendor said its used as a tire wrap for giant dump trucks to get extra traction. There are test showing it takes about 60 seconds to cut through each side of one link. 2 minutes of grinding. Thats the kind I have with a massive Abus lock. Those Zena alarms blow. The locks are fairly stout deterrents unless you are the Lock Picking Lawyer. My alarm worked about 2 weeks before it began going off randomly so much I removed it from the lock.

According to my manual, my bike comes stock with an immobilizer built in. The ECU changes the password with the electronics built into the key each time the bike is started, and will not start without the proper code. So that's a cool deterrent for the 2018 Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special. Might also start using my helmet lock with cable on the rear tire and through the frame just for the hell of it. But I'm sure the 3mm steel cable could easily be cut with side cutters/ pliers. Gonna watch that video from fortnine now.

I am more experienced with muscle powered bikes but I can reccomend fake rust. Nailpolish with coffeeresidue and ashes, makes great patches of fake rust and is removable.

as a makeshift tracker until you can get a proper one, stick an old phone in the bike somewhere. you can then use a find my phone app and track its location. a phone not being used can usually last about a week before needing charging......better than nothing.

Attach a usb port in your battery box and the phone will always be charged You could probably have one of those apps on the phone that allows you to hear and record from the microphone from another phone

Bro best defence is an IED, I mean they'll take the bike with them, but the only place they'll be goin is those big pearly gates. But in all seriousness, I'm looking into getting a motorcycle at some point in the near future, and this video will definitely help alot of new riders (including me) so thank u for the advice

Someone in my old area got their bike stolen, the idiot was also still riding it around, someone from the area recognized it, grabbed a crew and went after him. They kicked him off the bike while they were still going pretty fast, ended up recovering the bike but basically jumped him and stripped him naked and left him in a canyon. Insurance paid out on the bike already so I just dont know what they did with it

If anybody steals ANYTHING from me, and I catch them, they're dead. They can argue the morality of death for theft, but they will be doing it from the next life

The only people I had fondling my bike were 2 drunk girls who thought my 07 CBR125R was appealing, one wanted to take a picture on my bike and I saw it and shouted at the window. Threatened to come down and *(clear throat)* tell them to leave nicely 😏 and they left 🤣

Bikes are like animals you have to guard them and bring them inside when it gets cold! You don’t it want be there! I got two and I got the biggest chain I could buy, like a short piece was $150 bucks so good stuff, and a level 10 case hardened lock and I bolt them to the garage door frame so noisy if you touch it! Plus mine want start without the key and the steering locks on both bikes! Plus I’m retired I’m home and up all night and I’m surrounded by family on all sides so someone is always watching things. So good luck not getting your head blown off around here 😳😂

I wedge my bike in bike in front of my car to make it impossible to move. I wish the genius who tried to steal it would have figured out that he wasn't going to be able to get it out of the garage before he drilled out the ignition.
