Some old timer Harley Riders told me about bike covers 1) Get one without a bike brand name on it. That way they have no idea what is under the cover. 2) Make the cover dirty and unattractive with some black over-sprayed paint and duct tape on it. Thieves will think it a crap bike because you have not invested in a good new cover. 3) Get a cover a bit bigger than you need. Then the rims and tires are covered so then again they have no idea what is under the cover. Plus they cannot figure out what type of bike is under the cover by the profile. As they said, people do not covet what they cannot see.

Thought about that a couple of times when i saw covered bikes. When i who knows a lot about bikes to the point that i never have to ask anyone "what bike is this?" I can tell you 90% of the time what bike hides under the cover just by seeing a part of the bike like the wheels (size, width, etc), the final drive (chain, belt, shaft), brakes, the swingarm or the lower part of the forks and the axle mount. Plus you can always tell what type of bike it is by the overall shape. At least i can tell 100% if that bike is worth enough to steal it. So make sure to cover that up good

    1. Cover (and small chain) 2. Massive (19mm) chain to metal fence and Squire lock 3. Front wheel disc lock 4. Rear wheel disc lock 5. Scorpio Alarm (to he fitted). It just takes a few minutes at the start and of the day to do the 'routine'. When I'm out and about I just use a single disc lock (and alarm). Keep your pride and joy safe from thieves!

Tip No1 ... Live in Japan.. You have more chances to struck by lightning than having your bike stolen... Basically, it's really peaceful here.. No offense dude but, speak for yourself... I live in Japan and motorcycle theft is pretty common here. A friend in the neighborhood just got his stolen recently and you can hear plenty of stories of motorcycle theft. Theft insurance, alarms,GPS, multiple locks, cover, rental containers with 24h surveillance... The drill is the same here. I own two bikes and live in a nice residential area and I caught people trying to "check" my bikes before. If you have a high end bike, professional thieves will come for it. If you have a scooter, you have to worry about hooligans. Classic bike, watch out for bike gangs. It's a shame though. This country is indeed safer than others on other aspects...

Oh and the cover is a good idea but an old tatty one is better than a shiny new one. Even then someone attacked my pride and joy with a hammer after failing to get through my chain with their angle grinder. I had a 125 stolen because I didn't use a big enough chain, now I take no chances.

I do also own a Yamaha SZR and really like that one too. I like the SZR for when my wife wants to go riding with me. Riding on the GSXr hurts her butt on longer rides as it has a larger and softer seat.

@@juststeve5542 It's been done, it doesn't stop them. It only stops the little scrotes from stealing from that one owner, or their friends. It doesn't always deter all bike thieves either, you have to show some extreme violence towards them to really scare them off. The second time a guy (it was the same guy as the first and third times) tried to steal my bike he managed to run away, however he was missing teeth (what did he expect when he tried to steal a bike with the 16 stone owner wearing body armour stood next to it), but he tried again, unfortunately for him I was cutting a zip tie off of my bike, and he only ran away with my knife (I swear I didn't stab him, he must have lodged the knife in his own shoulder after he ran away, honest officer). Apparently UK legal carry knives can be dangerous to thieves (who knew).
