Thx for the great vid. Are we obliged to do the optional parts? I mean can we just have a test with only listening comprehension, language structure and reading comprehension? Thx in advance for the answer

@@ninalou1299 You can definitely choose to just do the required portions and not add on any optional portions! Just double check with the University, Language Program, etc. that you are sending your score to in order to make sure they don't require any of the optional portions.

Hi! I'm having the hardest time finding information about this test so I'm really grateful for this video. Do you happen to know if it's necessary to complete the third task of the writing portion to get a B2? Because I've tried to simulate the exam's conditions and there's no way I can complete all three in under an hour :( Also, in which order were the optional sections? Was it speaking and then writing or the other way around?

The writing and speaking are optional, so you don't need to do them to score a B2! Some universities just require them. I didn't do speaking, so I'm not sure what the order is (if you choose to do both). And those two sections are totally separate from the exam and have their own time period. So you'll have a separate amount of time just to complete the writing (if you decide to take it).

What is it like to be A2 ~ low values of B1. Buying food at supermarket??? Being able to make 5 sec conversation with French? 2:00 I can't speak French at all. Can I be A2 within 1~2 months?

Are TCF and TCF ANF the same thing in terms of complexity?

When I took the TCF it was entirely on a computer (which is the norm). You get the results of the mandatory sections (Listening, Language Structure, Reading Comprehension) immediately, but you'll need to wait for the results of the optional Written and Speaking portions (since it requires a real human being to score them). I would double check with the Universities you're applying to! Oftentimes they'll list the requirements on their website. Programs that are VERY writing or oral heavy (such as French literature/writing degrees) usually do require the writing portion. I believe most general programs are fine with just the required portions. Bonne chance!

If I remember correctly, I think wrong answers get 0 points (not negative points), so you're probably better off guessing if you don't know the answer!

If I remember correctly, you hear the conversation once and then hear the question once.

I also took the TCF exam a couple of months ago. Sadly I didn't get the score I was hoping for. I did very well in reading, speaking and writing, but I missed two or three questions more than I should have in the listening part. The different accents make it hard if you are not so used to them. Plus, contrary to English tests that mostly require you to listen to the exact word and simply type it down, the TCF requires you to listen to a story or a conversation, while you have to quickly interpret, and give answers that would summarize it or would complete the conversation, having similar alternatives that can confuse you considering you only have 3 or 5 seconds once the whole audio finishes.

I don't believe so, but I would double check all the visa requirements for whichever visa you're applying for. If you have a company/employer sponsoring you for a work visa, then I think it would be up to the company/employer (but not as a part of the actual visa process). If you're applying for a 10-year residence permit there is a TCF test for that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to do both the Oral and Speaking sections for citizenship. There might actually be a separate test (the TCF Quebec) if you're planning on moving to Quebec and applying for citizenship... I would double check the government website or call your local Alliance Francaise (or whoever is administrating the test in your area). They should be able to know! Bonne chance ❤️

Unfortunately the listening clips do not repeat. That's what makes that section particularly difficult. I made sure to jot down notes about the clip while I was listening to it!

You receive a separate score on your results for the oral and writing sections. I'm not sure how/if it affects your overall score (that would be a good question to ask your local testing center). But the printed results you receive lists a grade for each section (even the individual sections within the required portions).

⁠@@hellonicoletteI received the results. The global score isn’t affected by the oral and writing tests, but « l’ensemble des épreuves » is. I made 484/699 (B2) points at the global score but received B1 on “group of exams” because I obtained B1 on both writing and oral exams. Its sufficient for me, but if i could have obtained +1 point on writing skill maybe i would’ve been B2 😅
