    Hello! I see that you did NP school for FNP. Congratulations! Way to go! Is the Leik review book good to study prior to starting NP school to be FNP? Does NP school change depending on what your practice goals are? My goal is FNP. I also do not have critical care experience. Also any tips on study resources, NP books I can buy in advance, or anything else you think might help would be so greatly appreciated!

    Yeah, this is a nice suggestion. I will work on a video for this. To give you a quick response, I went to Emory. It was right for me and there a million pros to this school which I feel make it an excellent choice. The big con: $$$ There are about five or six variables that go into school selection that I think each individual has to weigh: clinicals, reputation, preparation, time to completion, possibly ease of entrance, cost. There are other factors that carry less weight IMO I’ll get into on the video.

    @@BreeJuskowiak I think I’m getting cold feet. I’ve been a nurse for about 10 years and I feel ready in that sense, but I can’t help but feel nervous. Any advice?

    Oh girl I hear ya. I had cold feet for 4 months leading up to school. Kids, husband who travels, have to keep working. Lots on my plate and not sure I would find a job. All the fears. But when I sat down for my first lecture I knew I was where I was meant to be. Becoming a provider and shifting your focus to medicine, to the practice of diagnosing and healing someone - that is dreamy and so very rewarding. It’ll be a rough journey but the time will pass whether you are in school or not. Why not make the time count??!!

    For the coursework I studied the material the school gave me (the slides, but did very little reading from the suggested texts) and did my own research. For boards I studied lots and lots of practice questions.

    @Bree Juskowiak thank you for your response. The reason why I asked was because during nursing school I did a lot of practice questions for foundations, pharmacology, peds and so forth and that helped. If you have any suggestions I welcome them🙏

    I think that’s a great strategy. It gets your brain in that test mode. You may look into what Quizlets are out there for the topic/class . Also look into FB groups. You’d be surprised how many super niche ones would apply to you. There is nothing better than having study partners, even if they are virtual.

    I heard you have to pick out your speciality on the first day for NP school? Does your specialty you choose affect in any way what you learn or what courses you take in NP school?

  • @BreeJuskowiak

    @BreeJuskowiak

    Жыл бұрын

    You have to choose your focus of study. As in what population and role you want to practice but not the specific specialty. Example: you have to decide 1. kids vs adults vs pregnant moms vs infants vs life span 2. Primary care vs acute care (think health maintenance vs illness management) 3. Inpatient vs Outpatient (but this crosses borders in many many ways) But you don’t have to know if you want cardiology or dermatology, etc. or you may know the super niche you want like Psych MHNP, or ENP, or Midwife, etc

  • @BreeJuskowiak

    and yes, to answer your final question. The program you choose dictates the majority of what you learn although there are some “core” classes all NPs must have. Pharmacology, A&P, Assessment.

    Hi Bre! I am wanting to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner however I don't want to work in the ICU. Based on your experiences and what you've seen in the hospital, are there other positions that ACNP's can hold in the hospital that does not include working in the ICU?

    You also do not have to work in the hospital if you don’t want. You can work in any specialty clinic and get paid more as you can round in the hospital if needed/desired. You just can’t treat mommies or babies or children.

    @@BreeJuskowiak honestly that sounds like the perfect job situation for me! I know that I want to start in the hospital but to be able to round in the hospital I'd love that. Knowing this only solidifies my decision to pursue the ACNP degree. I appreciate your response because I've reached out to other NP's and you have no idea how few of them actually respond so I really appreciate your response!
