HOW TO PREPARE FOR MARINE CORPS RECRUIT TRAINING | Nick Koumalatsos

I get a lot of questions in regards to training to be a Marine Raider and Recon Marine. While these are great aspirations we all must start on the yellow footprints. After months of work and planning, Josh Honsberger and I have developed a 12-week training plan called USMC PREP for $35, to assist those individuals looking to take up the challenge.

Great video. I’m 15 right now and wanting to become a marine. I’ve been training doing running, pull ups, push ups and trying to prepare myself as much as possible before I go to boot camp.
Awesome Video. I've been out for 5 years and when kids ask me what to do, I give them the max Pft requirements and tell them to continuously try to meet it. I think that the mental understanding of continuous improvement is something that is best driven home before they get to boot camp
You guys nailed it. Today America's youth has fallen way behind on what it used to be, it's sad really. Can't wait to hear more on the raiders workout. OCS 227 PFT 270 determined MOS 370 one day.

@@mattbye8647 I agree, but that video they showed about how old high schoolers used to workout was an exaggeration. It was extreme and bizarre back then too, hence the reason it was recorded and the reason the narrator said it “attracted nation wide attention”

damn i wish i knew some of these things before i ship monday haha. I'm in great shape but the recruiters definitely don't strain the importance of training before you go in. It also depends on what recruiting station you come out of. My recruiters work us pretty hard whereas others in the surrounding cities do not and it shows at the annual poole functions. I wish this would have been around in 1981 when I went to OCS. Damn near killed me, but I survived. I was so unprepared. Graduated and did 11 years. Greatest organization around. Thanks for helping those who come after us! Acknowledge the "Big Green Weenie!" It will happen to you.
There's nothing you can do to prepare for mind games and that's all Marine Corps boot camp is, for example you'll run back and forth till you go crazy then roll around in the sand pit for the dumbest reasons. It's designed to break you, so just suck it up and push through it. It definitely does help being physically fit.
Dude I really wanna join the USMC when I'm older. I've been trying really hard to get in shape. I'm a freshman in high school and ran cross country and am going to do swim to get in real good shape. I spent so much time in that exact same pool when I attended physical therapy at sea coast from 2011-2013. Great bunch of guys. Just discovered this channel man and I love it. And you mentioned Dan in your video. We deployed on the sotf back in 2010. Hell of a guy.
So true all the way around. This applies to other branches as well. I get so tired of new people coming in fresh out of initial training without the physical tools or mental drive to be a contributing member of the team. I love what you guys are doing here, and I'm planning to start recommending this to people that I know and some of the guys I work with
Great advise for new Marines. I severed 2001-2005 MOS 0621. My only regret was not trying to advance to recon or snipers. I don't think Marine Raiders weren't reestablished until after I EAS. The Marine Corps was one of the best decisions of my life, I find myself thinking about my time in a lot. Good times, good people
3:09 That McJuggerNuggets clip though😂
Watching this was definitely motivating as I have always thought about earning the title but not applying myself to what I need to meet, or excell in, the requirements to enlist. I have nothing and nobody to blame but myself and seeing two badass operators like you guys, in the sickest shades I've seen, has motivated me to not giving up on something I've wanted since before highschool and to change my priorities.
Loved it. I wish I were 35 years younger and the condition I was in then. I miss all the work. It really makes you feel great when you complete the exercise or test.

Hey there Nick, do you mind do a video on Recon one day? Like what you have to do or prep for that too. And also what did you start out as in the Marine corps?
I grew up loving video games and as I got older I got bored of it cause I was accomplishing nothing so I felt like maybe doing martial arts or marines would help me get some where In life and build my confidence
I am definitely going to buy this program. I am taking Civil Service tests to become a police officer and I need to be ready for all the demands of the job. Just listened to your podcast with GRP and I wanted to watch this video before I bought it. Convinced. And it does not look like it requires a crazy amount of equipment.

Hey Whats Up Nick liken your vids, You motivate this old Veteran to exercise. These young men wanting to be in the military need to MAN UP. When I was in my best time was 11:40 2 miler, I'm 5'7" and was 27, at that time. These young men should be able to do the minimum,at 18 yrs young, No problem. "Be an Overachiever" when you quit, you are giving up on yourself, and You Will Regret it.
Hey that's what you call a perfect photo finish.
great video
I wish I had saw this before my son went, he just started boot camp 2 weeks ago! He’s excited and I know he’s ready physically but mentally he’ll be shocked.
Good information that i need
I do play games in my free time but I always put going to workout and prepping my food for myself and my cardio before anything. Specially games because I want to get it done and not waste time till there’s none to get it done.
I cant tell you how many times on patrol dehydrated and exhausted I thought back to boot camp and how i would wish things were as simple and easy still. Thank god im in one piece and home. I think bootcamp is like high school, seems challanging when you go through but you look back and wish college was as easy lol same thing, you wish the fleet was easy. My advice, RUN RUN RUN. If you cant do 6 or 7 pull ups you will receive some extra attention to get you to speed or out
I’m debating on doing this just to boost my confidence in the military when I join
Idk when that high school had that program but I wish all high schools were like that
I went from being the guy on the computer 24/7 to being able to do all the stuff y’all did in the video times a lot.
That highschool looked kickass
Love your videos brotha 🤙🏻 I see you also have a raiders prep course on Amazon as well. is it a full program or is it supposed to be done after the usmc course? I’m already in solid shape so I’m not sure I need a fresh start from the usmc prep. Keep up the good work man Thanks
Perfect thanks
5:28 - 5:33 ..................you can also do that from the foot end of your bed, or even your dining room table (if it is strong enough and long enough). You bend down all the way so that your head is less than 6 inches from the floor and you're facing upside down. What this does is strengthens the entire lower half of your back so that you can carry more weight on your legs because half of that weight is being carried by the muscles in your back, not any of the muscles in your legs (for example, carrying a wounded person across your back with a firemans carry). It also stretches your spine a bit, but I don't quite know how that is a benefit to your overall health. Maybe you wake up quicker because your back muscles don't atrophy while you sleep.
To prepare I’m running/walking six miles every other day with 2 milk cartons in my bag for water. And senior year I’m taking advanced aquatics. I wanted to do weight lifting and cardio classes like I did last year but I don’t have room in my schedule for it. I also plan on learning mma and that’ll help me with cardio even more
Man this is perfect, I have been looking for a structured routine since I talked to my recruiter and got into the DEP. Looking to get this ASAP as I ship in late January. Just one question before I do, am I able to use this without a slew of work out equipment? I only have access to some dumbbells and a treadmill due to my work schedule, and no access (or the monetary means) to a gym that fits into my schedule. You just got yourself a new sub, your tips and charisma have inspired me to hopefully do more when I get into the Corps, wanted to get to Recon then into the scout sniper program, now maybe MARSOC is in my future. (If the wife approves ha!)
I love running, training, waking up early in the morning, reading, but I also love smoking cigars... 1 every night after a long day....

I've been debating what I want to do with my life for a while. Not because I have no clue but because there's a few things that I wanna do that are very different. My top 2 careers are either becoming a veteranarian or joining the Marines. Im not old enough to do either, but i do believe I have a healthy body, it's not outstanding but I do go to the gym and more importantly wrestling has taught me to go beyond what your capable of even when your about to fall apart. I've learned that mindset and I've been able to push beyond my limit. I'm not trying to say I'm above average because to be honest, I'm not, but it is something I'm working on. Basically, I do believe if I keep my workout plan, if in the future I do decide to join the Marines, I'll stand out at least a little bit. But right now, I'm not sure what to choose.
Yellow foot prints. 2:30 morning. Or 0230. Someone didn't listen to instructions, getting lined up on the yellow foot prints, he was closed lined before even getting thru the doors. We were on Paris Island maybe for 5 mins 1987........
Absolutely true. I got hurt before boot so i got it pushed back 2 months. Tore stomach muscle and when ur core is jacked up i couldnt do anything. Run,lift, swim ect. I was playing baseball in college so i was in ok shape. Not great but ok. Well 8 weeks I laid on a couch, drank beer and ate pizza . Didn't even rehab it. Just went to boot. I suffered. I did 5 pull ups, 1 1/2 run in 12:45 and my sit ups just made it on the nose. Enough where I didn't have to go to pcp but it probably would have been better if I would have. Started training and recruit next to me is breezing through formation runs , looking like he is enjoying the run, yelling cadence back etc, and there I am freakin dying, sucking wind. That also draws DI attention and u don't want that. Please listen to these hard chargers. You will benefit yourself. Semper Fi

I was originally going to do FORECON right out of SOI if I had the chance, but now that I know about MARSOC, I’m still going to try and do FORECON because I feel like it will be a stepping stone and it will allow me to be more experienced when I get into Irregular Warfare and the stuff Raiders do. luckily, when I joined the Army I didn't have to "prep" because my friends and I grew up playing sports like hockey, year round. Kids today rarely play any sports or hell, even ride bikes around the neighborhood anymore. They are the ones that need to do "prep" courses just to have a chance to succeed in any physical activity, because they have never done any physical activities.
