In this video I'm showing you how to pour and stamp a curved concrete walkway or sidewalk.
If you like stamped concrete and want to learn how to stamp concrete, then I'm going to show you and tell you how we do it on this project for one of my customers.
Pouring and stamping a curved concrete walkway gives the walkway a really nice look. Adding curves to concrete is a great way to landscape around your house in my opinion.
Watch and learn how we pour the concrete, screed it, bull float it, then when to start the stamping process.
Half the battle to learning how to stamp concrete is knowing the right time to start. I'll explain to you when I like to start the process and why.
This stamped concrete sidewalk / walkway is going to look like Ashlar Slate when we are done. I added a color to the concrete called Gull Gray, it was mixed right in the truck, and I also used a release agent color called Deep Charcoal.
If you haven't seen Part 1 of this series, make sure to check that out, I showed how we formed this curved walkway and what we used for forms.
Part 3 of this series will be about how we clean and seal this stamped walkway.

Looking into starting to do concrete to our business and I really like the look of the stamped concrete.
Man, I love a craftsman who really knows his trade. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you again for posting these group of vids. I’ve learned a lot. I enjoy your family working together to get these nice jobs done. God Bless!
ooh look at those brand new chutes!
Mike , I love your videos, very help full ! You are patient and excellent teacher .😎
Love watching his videos, great knowledge expertise and dedication. Plus he's like Michael Flatley from river dance when he's tamping the stamps by foot
Kudos for including women on your team. Really nice to see.

You're welcome, thanks for watching.
Great video as always Mike. Your definitely my go to guy when I’m about to try something new with concrete. Very much appreciate all that you do
I’m working for a guy that has the same amount of years as you do. He has done a lot of commercial buildings as well as every kind of concrete. But he’s not great about teaching. One of my Co-workers is 3 years younger at 32 years old and has 16 years in concrete. He teaches me a lot, but it’s so hard to break through in this trade. I think it’s because it’s always hurry hurry & your time never comes to jump in enough. With concrete I noticed that it’s one of those thing that’s all repetition which means I have to do, not watch. I love it though, the hard work & especially the feeling after knowing that you just did that beautiful piece of artwork is amazing. Plus the ridiculously good pay helps 😂 I’m green & only been with this small company Legendary Concrete Design LLC, which is 3 of us which only two of us work type a deal. It’s been a little over a month & got a $4 raise in 4 day’s, then another $2 dollar raise today. $26 an hour isn’t amazing but these skills are going to pay off later. Anyway man thank you so much for all you do to pass on the knowledge to the young bucks. I respect you greatly Mike & all other brothers of concrete.
Hi Mike, great Videos, I have a patio that I have to stamp, never did a stamping job for myself, but am a good finisher with lots of Concrete experience, so am going to do my first stamp Job, watching your videos give me hope, I thank I can do it.
So great!
Great educational format video. Good information delivery. Slow and clear. Like in school. Keep it up. Thumbs up!

Great video Mike! Stamped concrete is pretty popular here in Washington DC, it makes up about 80% of our work. I pick up tips from each video and appreciate you making them, thanks again!

Hi Mike. Great videos! I've done concrete for years and I've learned a lot from watching them. I stamped a front porch with stairs last year with a "slate" stamp and a gloss sealer - they turned out really nice but they are unbelievably slick in the winter time. Any suggestions?
Just subscribed mike
Howdy Mike! Thanks for another great video. The curved walk is great! Would love to see a video with a brick stamp on a curved sidewalk. How difficult is it to get a nice red brick color in concrete? I will be doing a curve brick walk around my old Virgina brick farmhouse in about 6-12 months. Subbed and followed you on Instagram....Great channel - please keep the videos coming!
Good job

Hi Mike, just so exciting and inspiring to watch. I’ve done a bit of concrete work so have enough tools. Would you share how I might be able to pour and stamp on an existing concrete slab that was poured 5 years ago. The new pour to be stamped can be no thicker than 2 3/4 “ possible a tad thicker. As the existing slab , which is reinforced concrete and poured on to steel corrugated sheet forms the roof slab to my basement below I think I’ll need a DPM. The existing slab is stable and in good condition with surface spalling which I’ll grind off is 3.5 x 6.2 meters and there are 7 x 8” portholes equally spread out which I’ll glaze to provide borrowed light to the basement below. Alternatively,, I could tile the slab but I’d need a little advice on doing that too. I’ll follow your advice if you think you can offer me some help, I would be very grateful to you. Peter
Mike do you guys work in MA? You do awesome work and Id love to have you do my sidewalk.. identical to this one
Great video. I have larger areas outside I want to stamp. A yard, patio areas and path ways. The stamps, can I get these in Ireland 🇮🇪
Hey Mike can you do a video on London cobble stamp concrete?
Great job learned bunches! Camera zoom in on walkways? Camera resolution? Thanks
I have a small area that we want stamped, a lot of contractors don't want to be bothered. I think I can handle this. I have poured sidewalks in the past.
Look at him flash dance he is a maniac... great how to y’all make it look easy keep up the great work..👍

Hey Mike great video next time you stamping can you get the camera in bit closer to see the stamping a bit better.
What do you recommend using to clean a stamped surface that gets mold / pollen / etc ? I was once told never to power wash a stamped surface...
Really enjoy your videos the commentary is very well done and explained well . Have built couple homes, have done concrete work before but have not tried stamping. Think I will give a walkway a try about 20ft long . How many stamps would you recommend to purchase to stamp this length of walkway. Thanks
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
At least 3, probably 4 would be better. I would highly recommend getting my stamped concrete course. It will save you a lot of time and money.
Have you considered using an edger with a handle? I've seen them used by other contractors.
Hi Mike, can I do the stamping process in sections of my concrete job? What I mean is this, I want to do a 32 ft sidewalk and do it in sections at 5 foot intervals and come back later to do another 5 foot section until I reach the end of the 32 ft run?
Hey Mike. Do I need to run any expansion joints with stamped concrete?
You mention using more than one color release. Do you have a video of that process? Any advice on doing that, Do you overlay the colors or you put the different colors in different spots. If you overlay will it become one new color? if you throw then in different spots will it look blotchy and not blended?
Love the video. I never did it before and feel confident that I can do it. Can you recommend a place that sells or rents stamps. I don't do this for a living so I would have no need for the stamps afterwards. Thanks

You can google "concrete stamp rental near me" and see what comes up. You didn't say what area you live in. You can buy them at Marshalltown: marshalltown.com/decorativeconcrete-stamps If you decide to buy them use my discount code EAC to save 10%. That'll add up to quite a bit of savings!
Oh man what are ya guys doin ……. It’s so EASY
👍
On a straight sidewalk do you cut a 2x6 down to 4in so the height is correct?
Once sealed, does it get slippery in the winter or in rain?
Are expansion joints not necessary to use on stamped concrete.
Never tried it, think we could handle but not 100% confident. Did a lot of tile work, just hoping we don't make a costly mistake
Hey Mike can you take a more detailed picture of the Attachment of the funny float I want to get one .. thank you
@MikeDayConcrete

Jo, you can check out the funny float at marshalltown.com or cadillac concrete products. It takes a little smaller handle than a regular bull float handle.

Is the concrete already colored in the truck ?
I don’t see the link for the color hardener
Ese polvo de color violeta ,para que sirve ?
Do you always order the color online?
Hey Mike, another great job. Just wondering what brand of powder release you use, and how you determine the best color release in relation to the color of the concrete? Also, are there certain times that you must start a stamp pattern against the building, as opposed to starting against a different reference point, like the driveway in this video? If so, what is that determined by? The pattern, preference, etc.?
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
I"m using Butterfield color release on this job. I like to use a dark release most of the time, that leaves a better "highlight" color in my opinion. We use mostly deep charcoal for a release color. As far as starting point. sometimes the sun dictates where you start, other wise I like to start against the building if I can to keep grout lines straight if I have any. If I don't, I start where the concrete is ready first.
Why do most concrete curbing guys just blow off the release and then "burn" it with mineral spirits or paint thinner, then seal, and poured concrete guys power wash and scrub their release agent? What's the difference ?
How do you determine when to use wire mesh vs. Rebar?
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
It's usually in the plan or blueprints. If not it's just my decision. Kinda depends on the compaction of the sub-grade. If it's compacted really good and hard, wire mesh is good. If I have any concerns at all, rebar is a good choice
Where’s the best place to buy stamps
How much did you bill for that?
Wouldn't the wire mesh be pushed back down since he is walking in it to screed?
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
It does in areas, It's better to have chairs under it. This had fibermesh in it also. It's hard to keep the wire where it should be no matter what you do.

I would like to know why you started at the end that was fresher...rather than begin at the steps where you started the pour?

When finishing backwards and kicking concrete ..who ever pulls wire is a waste of effort! The person in front coming backwards is stomping the wire back into the fill!
@MikeDayConcrete
4 жыл бұрын
We always use fibermesh in addition to the wire. Once the wire gets some aggregate under it, it doesn't go completely to the bottom. Usually we use some chairs under the mesh, just didn't have them for this pour.
I guess you like your candy? You sound like that you are having a candy while you are talking through the speaker. It happened on the last videos as well. Well.... we will just make this informal. Anyone can suck a lollipop while speaking.... no rule. I would do that too sometimes when I am sick at talking and nobody seems to pay attention. But I pay attention listening except it sounds weird when someone is sucking a candy or a mint or ... we can hear that.
Great work, great finish and great product! But I gotta give this a thumbs down. I watched a few of your videos and you shout out every company and product you use, except for Cadillac Concrete Products. The company that makes that funny float your buddy was using. That's too bad because they make the best Concrete finishing tools on the market! The only tools I'll use..
