Another good tip for DD play; be conscious of where your team mates are so you can drop smoke for them to get away. But, weigh the pros and cons. Smoke is a torpedo magnet, and you may not have it for your own defense later. If you do wind up without smoke but saved one of your team mates earlier in the game, they might be in a position to return the favor. ;)

These videos are....actually surprisingly good. Just like the BB one. I like it. These are certainly very much needed by the Playerbase.

5:47 "You've spotted a smoke screen? Don't hesitate to send your torpedos to inspect it. A careless enemy might just "catch" your surprise gift and return to the Port" This has to be one of the funniest sentences I have ever heard in my life.

Remember, as the Gnome Overlord, amongst others, says, "Smokescreens are torpedo magnets" Ok heading back to the his salt mines, I tried correcting Jingles a few weeks ago and still getting triple shifts for it

7:50 Frankly, No ship in this game is safe from the CV attacks. Have you seen the clip where a Halland (along with a support from a friendly cruiser) shoots down 50 aircrafts and still gets sunk as a first blood by the enemy carrier? This game has no regard to balances when it comes to CVs and Submarines.

@@chathurafernando2221 If it is just one radar, sure. I can play around that, even though it sucks. But if the CV plays the flank I am on in a torp DD, I pretty much am done with the match whether I want it or not.

These videos are actually pretty well done and helpful. Keep it up! I do really hate the fact that hydro and radar can go through islands though, and you guys even mention it in the video as if it's a perfectly reasonable thing... stop making it so radar goes through islands! Torpedo boats would be much more fun if ambushing was a valid tactic, but as of right now if I try to ambush behind an island i'll just get hydro'd or radar'd and killed.

Awesome "how to" play video!! The more knowledge the platebase gets the better the game becomes. Great editing and music choice in the video as well, never gets boring to watch ^^

Speaking of torpedo destroyers, I just unlocked the Shima and went to get myself a nice cameo for it. However with changes to economics and permanent cameos being purely cosmetic, when are the prices going to be dropped? 8000 dabloons for a cosmetic change with no economic bonuses is a bit of a rip off if you ask me.

Yeah so come important with DD doing spotting and area denial, but the game do not reward them for these deeds for real , in fact the game punish the DD players doing these critical work, cause time and effort, and long torp reload means Area denial not only do not reward it take up too much time, too much effort, and take a toll on the need to damage dealing ; spotting , great how much are actually rewarded vs the danger of being spotted and then focus fired , especially for torp boat which do not had Radar, do not had Hydro, do not had the guns to defend themselves when he enemy had all that

So heres how to play the destroyer and win. Your goal is not to survive, it’s to live long enough to deploy your torpedos into the side of an enemy capital ship. Secondly your job is to engage similar ships intent on trying to kill your big ships. Most BB drivers will help you if your close enough. I use the chase muzzle flashes or the get into the bear cage deployment trick. I either duck in and out of cover just long enough to fire my guns and punch out a few high ex shots. See I’m trying to light a BB on fire so he’s stupid enough to use his DC to kill the fire before I slam a rack of fish into his side. A DD driver needs to be fast on their feet and while wanting to kill a big ship should be fully willing to defend an ally or ready to engage other DDs trying kill your battleships. It’s a thankless job until you single handed eliminate a BB

@@matthewcaughey8898 Unfortunately with todays meta of staying 15 , 18 KM apart , staying close to the team's BB pretty much mean torpedo boat DD are mostly simply out ranged , and with todays big guns and cruisers all refusing to forward , unable to give real fire cover and / or close support, asking the DD to support them become a hollow joke . The dilemma is stay back with the team and get out-ranged, unable to do anything or go out and lone wolf it , not that DD players like to, but pretty much they are forced to .. yes survival is on the top of the priority and yet then one must ask .. is spotting not important, is Area denial not important , is .. well add your own and not to miss that today there are Radar , planes and all , and soon SS - fighting other DD / defending team's big guns against enemy DD is not a torp boat DD's task that's better left for the generalist and the gunboat or CL , the torp boat DD are just not good at that , with this game's mechanism on hand everyone are forced to go damage farming , cause if they do not they simply go broke

Theres one rule as destroyers Don't be spotted, and if you are spotted, don't get hit You're not supposed to do things, just torpedo, smoke shoot and leave

@@F.R.E.D.D2986 unfortunately that's the motto , not suppose to do things but the game do not reward the player for doing that , in fact the game force DD player to do more damage dealing cause almost everything else they do , well , just put themselves in danger with no reward .. or rather negative reward cause the time and effort then are wasted which can be used towards damage dealing .. The fact Spotting pretty much return minimal means many DD players choose simply not to do it anymore , and of course compounded by non available Close support from all the Cruisers and BB ( so call ) teammates

Nice series of "How to", but how are these videos found by the new players. It has to be an in-game link towards them while they check the tech tree or something. I think these initiative videos are good for the fresh new players, but they need to know that they exist out there.

Another tip; knowing when to target an enemy with guns or torps selected. Having guns selected and locking target will trip the targets Priority Target counter if they trained for it, while having torpedoes selected, will not. This can be useful to you as you may be able to influence a ships course simply by toggling between the two armaments. Seeing the priority counter drop is an indication that torpedoes have been selected and launched. A cunning DD captain can use this to bait a ship into their spread, or even bluff them into steering away and ruining a push without even launching. Also, good information to know for any captain, since you could be the one getting juked by a DD. Be aware!

How to have low detectability ?? The commander skill "Concealment Expert" only reduce 10% and it still not enough to reach the lowest as i see in the replays !! Now is 2022, i wonder if there is still "Upgrades" ? Cause i didn't see it in my lobby

Spaghetti boys were inept at every level. This game has one thing correct is how crappy their ships are.

You've got the classification wrong. Original IJN DDs are the only pure torpedo boats. All the rest are either hybrids or gunboats.

I only seldom play the game, that means I can't catch up with other players and the trend skills, but I just play the game in coop battles to enjoy (even if I have moderate number of good ships).

Addition: I'm playing this game since 2017, I just stopped playing this game for a year between 2018-19, then return a bit in mid 2020 till the end of April 2021, then since then I never know any new stuff in game. 2017 was the best year, or should I call it "happy time" for my WoWs moment, during that year I'm so fully active in random battle, now I just seek out to see my ships and remembering 2017, remembering the time that I was fully addicted and active on the game.

Enhance my torps? I would say that 88 seconds on a shima, is the best you can get..

there is nothing scarier than a yamagiri firing its 18 type 93 torpedoes in your direction, as the spread generaly mean you're gonna get hit by most of them

Torpedos = Heavy damage :)

Destroyers should think twice before trying to cap, if team mates hides behind islands, because it means probably no effective support by team mates behind islands and if enemy not hiding and enemy have radar or and hydro the destroyer is raped while trying to capture a area.

Play DD , get radar , return to port.

Or: Play DD, check which of the opposing ships have or may have a radar, keep some distance to get out of the radius quickly (use engine boost if necessary), wait until the radar ran out (takes up to 40 seconds if not buffed) and then return. Also: Spot enemy radar ships and let your team shoot them.

How long before the classes get pfficially cut up like in Wotrld of Tanks? Something like Gun DD, Torp DD, thr many types of cruiser etc

If I could just get people on board and we can put together a coherent fleet... But usually it ends up with every man for himself. Though I still keep playing since I am a grandson of a war time sailor and the game speaks to me.

These types are not official in the sense that a dd falls into a single, predefined category. The rule of thumb is: good torpedos, rather bad guns, good concealment = torpedo destroyer (stealth boat), good guns, not so good concealment, not so good (or none) torpedos = artillery destroyer (gun boat). All these middle class = dual-purpose destroyer (hybrid boat).

And keep in mind you can change the purpose of each ship via commander skills. Choosing all torpedo buffs for a dd will change a dual-purpose to a torpedo destroyer, while taking all/most gun improvements will change it to an artillery dd.

Have you ever played a T8+ torp DD? If not then try it once...

01:12 Torpedo destroyers - You guys go immediately to tier 9 and 10 ships. Really? No tier 5 to 7 DD's? FYI the Chung Mu should not be in this class. 01:26 Artillery Destroyers aka gunboats - Again with the tier 9 and 10 ships. FYI the Druid should not be in this classification. You are missing the Småland too from this classification. 01:40 Dual purpose Destroyer group. You are missing the tier 9 Chung Mu and tier 10 Druid. You are totally missing the Deepwater group of destroyers. That group has different tactics of playing in WoWS too. 02:16 "Represent the pinnacle" That is a reach in statement. Why are their supership destroyers then? 03:19 If you are a torpedo boat, stealth is your weapon. You don't get yourself detected. Period. You don't shoot guns unless it is a sure kill or you are about to die in a gunnery duel. 04:53 "It does not matter if you are hidden behind a smokescreen or an island" That is because Hydro and Radar goes through islands and are not blocked. WG Physics. 05:16 Go to Bravo point? Really?? It matters what your DD can do is the point. 07:29 "You will receive XP and credits for any damage dealt and spotting" The spotting part you will hardly get any XP when compared to damage. 07:42 So in order not to be spotted by CV's, you are not telling DD players to turn off their AA gunnery before hand. Where is the usual "Just Dodge" statement to avoid CV attacks on your DD? 08:30 Now you tell DD players to turn off their AA. I would have thought that was step 1. You also have not mentioned the tactics when to use smoke and when not to as a DD. You are missing the main points of scouting/shadow spotting for your team and capturing the capture points in your video. You are not promoting teamwork tactics here. I guess you guys missed these items since you don't play your own product. If you are going to teach DD tactics teach them correctly.

honestly, this seems like a nonsensical rant of someone who just wants to be irritated. it's clear that this was written while watching the video, not after the video. Dude. Props to you for paying attention and I definitely agree with you about not promoting teamwork but some of your arguments are utter tosh. you make it sound like anyone watching this video wouldn't be watching to the end. the whole point is that this teaches you how to play a class, you don't get to step one and then go "Oh step one is enough!" you watch the WHOLE thing and THEN judge - complaining that turning off AA isn't step one is very much my issue here, they still tell you to do it, and it's not like someone would watch only part and then practise that, because that's not how it works. complaining about the order they're saying things is so desperate, it just comes off as being just a little bit too desperate to find issues with it.

@@phoenixtalon100 You sorta sound like a WG employee. BTW, Feedback leads to improvement. The title of the video “How to Play: Torpedo Destroyers”. If you are going to make a tutorial video, don't do it half-ass. My points are valid in noting the video's weaknesses. My Point of view is to give new players a chance of playing the class properly to win and have fun in WoWS. If you do what WG suggests, the new players will die quickly in the game. Unless that is the goal of WG all along. But I would doubt they would be that deep in that point too. Overall it will take time to be a good WoWS player. It depends how much game play and training in watching KZread videos of known good players. New players need to understand what each ship can do in a match. Training will add to the future enjoyment of WoWS matches.

(I really need to phrase that better) - issue is, honestly, I watched this and was like "Yeah, as a first how to this isn't bad" - it lacks nuance because ofc each ship plays differently, but what it tells me to do is pretty much what I would do anyway. I suppose we'll all just have to wait and see what Flamu thinks of this before we can say which of us was right here. Mino superiority though!!! Basically an oversized destroyer with a citadel anyway.

The competent ones use smoke to make you think they're sitting in smoke while spotting you from a flank because you can't aim at what you can't see, so sitting in smoke is useless.. Personally I only use the smoke to block LoS for BBs getting hammered or if i need to escape a CV spotting me.. Otherwise I generally do just fine without smoke with my Kagero, I'm not up to tier 10 yet but yeah, so far, smoke is more of a tool for escape rather than for stealth. As soon as you pop smoke you give away your position, even undetected, a smoke cloud gives you away.. So yes, i'm inclined to agree that sitting in smoke is unskilled for a torpedo DD because you're blinding and hindering yourself and your team by doing it. For gunboats though it's legitimate I feel.. I main BB's but i love me a good torpedo run with DD's
