I spent a lot of time on this one, hope it helps you learn about aiming in the game. Starting at the basics and then getting to some pretty advanced techniques. I think this is a good summation of everything you need to know. I graze over some stuff like weak spots and positioning to get the best shots possible because they seem like different videos, or in the case of weak spots all you have to do is look at the armor viewer in-game to find them.
I'm Potato_Quality, a member of O7, and probably one of the best battleship players in this game. Hopefully, on this channel, I can teach you a bit about how battleships are played. Thanks for watching.

Rules of world of warships: (1) Your shells will always overpen, ricochet or miss regardless of the targets angle. (2) You will always get citadelled no matter what angle your ship is at. (3) the only shell to hit you will start a fire right after you used damage control to put out the 3 fires just set on you.

Wow, really appreciate the in-depth guide here. Many other guides I’ve tried to watch go nowhere near this level of detail. I also appreciate seeing you on KOTS as being one that isn’t speaking out of his ass, but practicing what you preach. Not trying to shame the others that try to explain what they do, but many do these small details innately and don’t think to talk about them or have a hard time explaining them concisely. As an IRL USMC marksmanship coach, trying to shoot with incomplete information about your weapon or the tools on it is unthinkable. Good instruction means teaching all the tools at hand to help the student maximize the chance for success. Now off to try and delete some filthy weekenders!

Yes, it works. And with 4 turrets you can herd ships. There was several times when cruisers get spotted at 17km away, going nearly nose in to me. Nobody want to be close to BB, so they need to turn, they start turning you fire 1 turret, they stop the turm, they start turning again you fire 1 turret, and then it is 12 km away and it is too late to turn and run away.

Thank you to those suggesting the Nomogram Crosshair, I tried it yesterday and thought it would be better based on my first few games. However, I found the crosshair wasn't accurate at long range with long flight times. At closer range, it was very good as it simplified the horizontal aiming to just thinking about the enemy ship's speed. I just find myself mainly using the crosshair at long range and going by feeling more at close range, so I will continue to recommend the Smart Horizon crosshair if you are looking for a dynamic one. edit: Since Battleframe minimap hasn't been updated for a while I've switched to the minimap buy autospy. As a bonus, everything is configurable from in-game so no need to go into the config files :)

Interesting. iChase and LittleWhiteMouse did a whole thing about how the Nomogram is the most accurate at long range....maybe Smart Horizon wasn't around. Nomogram Classic has 30 kt ticks on top and 20kt ticks on the bottom....so for long range Kleber shots you double the bottom and add time or double the top and subtract...whatever works for you.

@@zublacus I don't know what his talking about but accuracy wise Noragami is perfectly fine. you just have to remember not everyone is 30kt or 20kt lots ships are 35kt so you have to lead a tiny bit more. My stats are 60% WR and 2200PR so I would like to think I am decent at this game.

@The dhgate 1:1 Replica reviews you have to count in the ship's speed as well. from what i've read about dynamic crosshair so far, this crosshair really works for when the enemy ship is going 30 knots. less than that, you'll have to start eyeballing it. i might be wrong tho so just take it with a grain of salt

  • @Tedster59

Great video. I've been trying to break a lot of instinctive aim habits I've built over the years, which work, but are holding me back from getting to the next level. You've done a great job of explaining what I've been doing purely on instinct and providing a system to utilize the tools the game gives you (and a few that it doesn't) to put actual calculations and math to use to take the instinct out of aiming. The minimap is criminally under-used for aiming, given WG's wonky auto-aim. For the smoke-firing part, it's probably worth mentioning the difference between AP and HE tracers in terms of starting position relative to the smoked ship, and in a situation that can spare the voice coms bandwidth, ask for corrections from a sunken ally to spot your shellfire with freecam, or for targetting information on a ship out of render in a cyclone :)

One of the biggest problems I have with the aiming is when you are tracking a fully viewed ship and the ship sails behind an island. Even if your shells have the ability to loft the island and continue hitting the ship, as evidenced by the fact the shells do that if they become spotted and you can aim on them again etc, when the ship goes unspotted your shells lose their loft and just fly straight into the island. Using a spotter plane allows this to some extent but it should work all the time and not have your aim hijacked just because there happens to be an island in the path of the shells.

But one observation on the aim at the Roon at 9:45. It looks like you clearly adjust screen-aim for a turn in as you say, but the mini map reticle looks pretty much locked on to his straight line, to the nearest pixel, meaning that your prediction was cancelled out by the auto-aim.

@Potato Quality , very good info and presentation for your video , I personally learned a couple of things thx to you ,, one thing I'd like too bring to the table is something I learned in real life while serving in the Military as a tank soldier ( yes I know what you are thinking , how is this useful to a game of Ships shooting each other lol , read on it 'll come apparent ;) )...... Quite simple a technic we learned when firing main armament " Sight picture" , basically this means observing Fall of shot ( for us in WoWs the fired "salvo" of all the turrets ;) ) as the shot( shots) land either on target or in area of target, use the "Reticle pattern" to correct your shooting ,this should mean that ( to 75% ) your next salvo should hit either all or partially the target .. This process is how I fire in Wows works for me ,and range doesn't really matter it can be used at any range ,obviously the further away the target is might mean that it'll take a couple more "salvo's" to effectively hit the target , once you use this technic you'll get a "feeling" for where too aim ... Many thanks for putting this video up I think alot of players should watch it and learn as you explain alot of technics ..... Stay safe !!

That blind shot was really nice. You could also use the negative information of your friendly ibuki too. IF he was further away, the ibuki would be spotting him, we can't see him, so he must be hiding between the two of us.

@Potato Quality, thanks for very usefull tips. I would like to give my tactics: 1. Actually the best crosshair is "Nomogram Modern" in ModStation, I call it "legal cheating" because it has only 10 20 30 40 knts scales and your shells hit the spot exactly what enemy ship' speed is. It doesnt matter if you are shooting Des Moines's slow shells or Petropavlovsk's railguns, you will always hit for example Montana (30 knts) if you aimed for 30. 2. I have my own smoke shooting tactic that works perfectly for potato smoke campers especially. All I have to do is aim at the middle of smoke screen (the middle spot between back and front white borders of smoke screen) where the shells are coming from. This method works because most of the time Smolensk and Minotaur smoke up and stand still inside their smoke so theit citadel ends up being in the middle of smoke screen.

I had to switch away from NM in the mod station, just because it was way too busy visually. It was a nice idea, but when I tried using it I found myself losing track of where certain markers were. I'd have to really hunt for the right marker (say, the 8s marker) and by the time I've found it, the target has noticed and has ruined the shot. I went back to the stock dynamic, but I might try the horizon one he mentions in this vid.

@AKUJIRULE ; hmmm, really? Lol… I have three screens, my resolution is 5600 X 1080p, I am looking at 84” of screen when I play the game, a normal size map, even after pressing the + sign, as you say, it not to my satisfaction, thanks though. if you would bother to watch the WHOLE video you would understand what he was talking about. Thanks though…
