How To Play The Intro To 'The Boxer' by Simon and Garfunkel

Музыка

The intro to 'The Boxer' by Simon and Garfunkel sounds very complicated but is, in fact, easy to play when you know how. This short vid will have you playing it before your tea goes cold.

I wish someone would post Fred Carter Jr's part for the entire song. It provides such a sweet melodic counterpoint to Paul Simon playing the song in standard tuning

I never knew I could adjust the speed of a KZread video!! I've been doing screen recordings and then adjusting the playback speed with a 3rd party app. 🤦‍♀️ Thanks Rob! P.S. I've missed you!

Excellent you're the best teacher I've come across in my time playing guitar, I had kidney failure and was in a coma for 4 weeks and it erased most of my guitar knowledge. so I'm learning more with you than I have in my early years. I wish you were around back then.

The Fred Carter Jr Part works very well playing along with another guitar tuned to standard (Paul Simon's part). In isolation, other than the fantastic intro, it doesn't really sound right on its own. Better to play the intro in standard tuning, if you're playing solo, as its the most prominent guitar throughout the recording.

    Instead of the open-G-tuning use a capo in 5 and play the song in G - the intro will sound much smoother and will be much more comfortable and easier to play. D-B, A, B, A, F, B, A, D, B, A, D G, F, D (fr10), G

Nice lesson! On the record the intro was actually played by Fred Carter Jr. on a baby Martin in an open G-tuning. The tuning allowed him to play it as a sort of banjo roll without hammer-ons.

Thank you for continuing to share and spread your musical talents and skill to everyone. Any time a friend or someone I know talks about learning the guitar you are the first person I recommend watching along with a bunch of links to your videos. To summarize everything I want to say after that bit there I'll just bring it down to three words. You are awesome.

One day I will buy myself my dream guitar (7 steel string acoustic), and I will tune it all wrong (5 semitones difference between every string). Re-inventing the wheel for a good cause.
