I thought Onward was a love letter to roleplaying games, and so I think this really is a perfect evolution of that. Honestly, I think I'd rather play this than a standard game of D&D, and I bet the stories included in the book are clever and fun. Thanks for putting this on my radar, Becca!

I like that you did this in an introductory style for those new to RPGs. Being able to ride other players is a cool touch. Also a good excuse to get your hair braided in lieu of having to buy a bridle.

Thanks so much for doing this, Becca. Just got this game. Seems like an homage to the old red box (and blue box) Dungeons & Dragons. I will have to think about whom to invite and teach. Seems like an investment of time and energy. Let’s cross our fingers that it is worth it. If I were not destined to be Game Master, I would want to be the Manticore-my second favorite character from the movie, after mom.

Had to scroll back and rewatch because I was distracted by the dress ... looks awesome but also bloody confusing. Is it one piece? Is it layered? If it's layered then ... what?! ... damn, missed half the content again. Scrolling back ... again.

This may sound negative but it's more about my preferences regarding content on KZread. I wish your How to Play playlist was it's own channel. I would subscribe to these videos but I don't personally enjoy the other content as much so I decided not to subscribe. I will seek out these videos but am not subscribing at this time. Channel seems to be having lots of success which I'm happy to see, big fan Becca!

You can keep the playlist bookmarked: kzread.info/head/PLtzTuYwAIJ8URreKDmWqbW_YSjCNwUNol to more easily check it for new stuff, or subscribe & turn off the bell; then you won't get notified for new things on the channel so it won't bug you.

I swear, all Becca would have to do is say "I am the Queen now" and she'd have every simp lining up ready to die for her in less than a moment's notice... ... me included >.

It's actually a simplified version of Dungeons and Dragons, made in the spirit of a recent Pixar movie. This type of role-playing game isn't like a usual board game where you just set it up, play it, and then put it away. Instead, it's almost like a framework for imaginative, collaborative storytelling where one person tells the story and operates as the "world" while the other people playing create detailed imaginative characters, and interact with the world as those characters. Dice come into play when players make choices for their characters and the narrator player identifies those choices as appropriate moments of risk or luck. For example, how good were they at searching a room for a clue? How well did the trap they set trick the enemy character? Were they able to convincingly lie their way out of a dangerous situation? That makes it more fun. They'll continue to play this over multiple sessions and at various parts in the story they'll get more powerful and learn new abilities to make their character and the story more dynamic and fun. Hope that helps you understand the framework of the game rules a little easier.

In comparison to many Tabletop Role-playing Games, which this is, it's vastly more simple. It can still seem like a lot for those who aren't used to the genre but most people I've taught pick it up pretty quick and if you have a good game master they are always there to help you learn and answer your questions.
